Probable mode of action of Tamra bhasma
• In yakritodara due to its lekhana, sara guna and kapha pitta hara property , it
removes the avarodha.
• In Pittashaya vikruti, if bile accumulates and forms ashmari-tamra bhasma
reduces the disease by its lekhana and sara guna
• In Rakta vikaras, like Granthi, due to pittasaraka property tamra bhasma is given
with arkakshara with honey
• Tamra bhasma –could be a drug of choice in Kamala with underline condition of
pittashamari and arbuda.

Tamra Bhasma (TB)And Somanathiya Tamra Bhasma(STB) W.S.R. To Hepato
Protective Activity.

• CCl4 is induced to cause hepatic damage to rats. The Bio chemical values like Alk
phosphatase, SGOT, SGPT, Total serum bilirubin, Serum albumin and
Histopathological study of Liver were analysed.
• Biochemical observations reveal that the values of STB are closer to the Normal
than TB. So STB is more effective than TB.

Result- Show that Tamra bhasma inhibits lipid peroxidation (LPO), prevents the
rate of aerial oxidation of reduced glutathione (GSH) content and induces the
activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in rat liver homogenate in the bi-phasic
manner. Protective response was found at the dose of 0.5mg/100mg body weight.

Toxicity study of tamra bhasma prepared with various
methods
by Dr. Honwad Sudheendra V, lecturer, DEPT. of PG Studies in
Rasashastra , SDM College Udupi.
• Tamra bhasma prepared with parada media has shown maximum
tolerated dose of 250mg/200g body weight of rat and minimum lethal
dose 260 mg. But after amruthikarana maximum tolerated dose
760mg/200gms.

ABHRAKA
• Mica mainly contains silicates of iron ,magnesium and aluminium.
• Might be behaving as a free radical scavenger and reducing ER damage and

BHRINGARAJA
• Eclipta is a restorative and anti-hepatotoxic herb nullifies the toxins
affecting the liver.

• PHYSICO- CHEMICAL ANALYSIS OF SHANKHA BHASMA
AND EVALUATION OF ITS HEPATOPROTECTIVE ACTIVITY, -
AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY” By Dr. Jayashree, dept of

• Shankha bhasma has shown good hepatoprotective activity on Albino
rats which is statistically significant (P<0.001).
• Drugs when it is analysed statistically, the hypothesis of equal
effective is rejected only for alkaline phosphate at 5% and accepted for
the all other parameters at any level. But the observations reveal that
the values are closer to the normal values for the SB.

Hepatoprotective evaluation of Arogyavardhini Rasa against
paracetamol-induced liver damage in rats

• In this study, AVR produces a good hepatoprotective action as well as nephroprotective in spite of its metallic
content, especially mercury ,copper, which suggests that formulations containing metallominerals have the
potential role in classical preparation,
• Results: PCM produced significantly impaired liver and kidney functions are assessed through an increase in
liver and kidney marker enzymes. Arogyavardhini-treated group significantly (P = 0.05) prevented this
hepatotoxicity and strongly supported by histopathological examinations that revealed AVR shows the
protection of liver tissue from PCM-induced hepatotoxicity.
•
Conclusion: The observation of the present study has stalwartly supported the hepatoprotective action of
AVR against PCM-induced hepatotoxicity in rats.

• Sr. Bilirubin 15.4 mgdl
• HbsAg,HIV negative,CBC- Normal
• USG- mild hepatomegaly, Spleenomegaly
• Rx- Punarnavamandoora 2tab BD with Phalatrikadi kwath 50 ml BD
• After 5 days appetite increased
• On 7th day- Sr. Bilirubin-6.6 mg/dl with marked symptomatic releif
• On 14th day- Sr. bilirubin level- 1.14 mg/dl with no significant symptoms

 Shuka dhanya:
• Yusha prepared out of Shuka dhanya such as purana Shali, purana yava
and purana Godhuma is advised as Pathya.
• Monocotyledons are rich in carbohydrates.
• Carbohydrates are the main source of calories in the diets of patients
suffering from viral hepatitis.
Shali is good source of vitamin B complex. Nutritive values of Shastika
shali per 100 gm are as follows, Proteins-6.8 gm, Fat-0.5 gm,
carbohydrates-78.2 gm, Energy-345 k.cal.

Godhuma is best source of carbohydrates & B complex
vitamin.
Nutritive values of Godhuma per 100 gm are as follows,

It can be concluded that shuka dhanya are rich in carbohydrates
which is basically need in the patients of Kosatshakhashrita
Kamala. It can be given in all the conditions

Shami dhanya: Yusha prepared out of mudga, aadaki and masoora as
pathya. Yusha
• prepared out of these dicotyledon cereals are rich in proteins and
carbohydrates.
Mudga is good source of vitamin B1, B2, Iron and proteins.
• Nutritive values of Mudga per 100 gm are as follows, Proteins-24gm, Fat-
1.2gm, carbohydrates-71.2 gm, Calcium-140 mg, Iron-8.4mg, Energy- 334
k.cal
 Aadaki Nutritive values of Aadaki per 100 gm are as follows, Proteins-
22.3gm, Fat-1.7gm, carbohydrates-75.2 gm, Iron-8.8 mg, Energy- 335
k.cal.

Masoora It is good source of vitamin B1 & B2. Nutritive values of
masoora per 100 gm are as follows, Proteins-25.1gm, Fat-0.7gm,

• It can be concluded that shami dhanya are rich source in protein and
carbohydrate. It is contraindicated when the patient complaints of shotha
and jalodara.
• Mamsa varga: Jangala mamsa rasa is advised. Jangala mamsa is having
alpa snigdha guna, so meat soup consisting of protein with little quantity
of fat is advisable.
