ACRONYMS
• DPA = Digital Process Automation.
• RPA = Robotic Process Automation.
WHAT IS DIGITAL PROCESS AUTOMATION (DPA)
• A strategic approach that concentrates on reshaping and digitising an organisation’s existing
business processes to achieve optimal efficiency and productivity.
• Involves humans and forms, workflow, data and reports.
• Also known as Business Process Management (BPM).
WHAT IS ROBOTIC PROCESS AUTOMATION (RPA)
• Automates repetitive rules-based tasks typically performed by humans on their computer utilising the
user interface to manipulate data and applications just as a human would.
SUMMARY
• Both technologies deal with automation.
• Both are being increasingly used in digital transformation projects.
• One cannot serve as a substitute for the other.
• DPA and RPA are complementary to each other and, when deployed together, provide a powerful
platform to enable digital transformation organisation-wide.

WHAT IS DIGITAL PROCESS AUTOMATION (DPA) • A strategic approach that concentrates on reshaping and digitising an organisation’s existing business processes to achieve optimal efficiency and productivity. • Involves humans and forms, workflow, data and reports. • Also known as Business Process Management (BPM). WHAT IS ROBOTIC PROCESS AUTOMATION (RPA) • Automates repetitive rules-based tasks typically performed by humans on their computer utilising the user interface to manipulate data and applications just as a human would. SUMMARY • Both technologies deal with automation. • Both are being increasingly used in digital transformation projects. • One cannot serve as a substitute for the other. • DPA and RPA are complementary to each other and, when deployed together, provide a powerful platform to enable digital transformation organisation-wide.
