POLITICAL PARTIES
 Political parties form an inevitable factor in a 
democratic system. During election they contest 
each other for winning votes. They can participate 
in the electoral contest either as single parties or 
as alliances. 
 Each of these parties have an its own election 
manifesto. 
 Political parties function by mobilizing people and 
attain power through their support. When they are 
not in power, their propaganda will be based on 
the failure of ruling party.
 Preparing the list of candidates. 
 Selection of suitable candidates. 
 Publishing the election manifesto. 
 Advertisements in periodicals. 
 Advertisements in Audio-visual media. 
 Expose of a popular leader. 
 Consider the demands of the people. 
 Organize and express the will of the people. 
 Link between the government and the people. 
 Taking part in elections and trying to capture the 
power by constitutional methods. 
 To form the government.
 Election campaigning is regarded crucial stage. They follow the 
following methods or techniques during the election 
campaigning: 
 1) Postering : A few days before the actual election day the 
election campaigning begins with Postering. 
 2) Meetings : Then the candidates hold various party meeting 
and corner meetings to get the support of the party workers as 
well as the local social, religious and cultural bodies. 
 3) Speeches: In these meetings various speeches are delivered 
by the local as well as the national leaders. 
 4) Processions: In these procession a large numbers of trucks, 
tempoes, cycles etc…are used to procession sits who shout 
slogans in favour of their candidates. 
 5) House to House Canvassing: It is undertaken by the different 
candidates and their party men to get the support and 
sympathies of the general public.
