known as an elite high school. In those
days there were only 25 such schools in

founded on the 13th of
September, 1869 by the
Romanian scholar
Ion Codru Drăguşanu.
Ion Codru Drăguşanu (1818-
1884) was a Romanian
writer from Transylvania,
and also a famous journalist
and politician.
Draguseanu gave the school
the name of a Romanian legendary leader,
whose origin are Transylvanian
This ‘Central School’, having Romanian as a teaching
language, had a confessional feature and functioned at
first with grades and schoolmasters belonging to the
orthodox church. Practically, it was an orthodox school
which, along the years suffered lots of changes, among
which we mention the it was transformed into a
Hungarian school for a short period.
However, the school has kept its excellent reputation
inspired by its founder, Ion Codru Draguseanu.

Over the decades, the National College “Radu
Negru“ has become an important cultural
factor, the center of spiritual life in the
Land of Fagaras.
Every year more than 500 students sign up for
this school… because “ Radu Negru” has
always been appreciated for its outcomes.
