3. About Radio Bundelkhand:
Radio Bundelkhand (FM 90.4), Apna Radio Apni Batein ,was launched on October 23, 2008. It
is situated at Tara Gram village in Orchha, of Tikamgarh district, Madhya Pradesh.
The community and Development Alternatives jointly manage this station.
Covers communities within 15-20 kms radius – with special attention to women, youth and the
marginalised groups.
There are five community reporters and six community coordinators.
The villages these reporters represent are Azadpura, Ramnagar, Sitapur, Basova, Bagan,
Bhagwantpur, Ghatao, Jamuniya, GujerraKalan, Mathrapur and Ghatao.
Radio Bundelkhand has the longest duration of programming of four hours a day, seven days a
week, in Bundelkhandi and Hindi.
Signature Programme: The signature programme of Radio Bundelkhand is Shubh Kal (Climate
Change Adaptation).

5. RADIO BUNDELKHAND AS A COMMUNITY RADIO:
For the first time ever in the history of Bundelkhand, people have been using the mass media to narrate
their own stories in their own language, using Radio Bundelkhand, a community radio.
The purpose, as identified with the help of our communities in the radius of the radio station, is to work
with them to use this communication medium so as to create awareness, extend information, participate
in local self-governance and provide entertainment - all based on requests and feedback from the
community.
Most of the programmes of Radio Bundelkhand is developed with the participation of local community
right from coming up with ideas of programmes, sharing their talent and expressing their interest to give
the programmes for the Radio.
Local folk singers visit the Community Radio station with their groups to record their songs.
Community reporters conduct narrow casting among small listeners' groups and create a new programme
with their focus group discussion.
Local community participates in live and recorded phone-in programmes.
6. The purpose of setting up Radio Bundelkhand is to work along with them to use
this communication medium to create awareness, give information, participate in
local self governance and provide entertainment – all based on requests and
feedback from the community.
The Development Alternatives aims to ensure the participation of local people
for the programming, broadcast and management of the station by the community
itself.
Radio Bundelkhand assists and encourages the community to define its own
information and communication needs and also ensures that the information
offered to the community meets the needs of the local people.

7. PROGRAMMES BROADCAST FROM RADIO
BUNDELKHAND:
The on-air programmes cater to a wide range of listeners. The health programme regularly features
medical practitioners where they discuss diseases while the agriculture programme invites departmental
representatives.
The daily morning and afternoon programmes are entertaining yet informative and often include
interviews on a broad spectrum of community issues.
The station also caters to children, folk music for the public and recipes for women. The community
announcements of local events are also broadcast therein.
8. Programming Content on Radio Bundelkhand on a daily basis
Vandana –Devotional songs broadcast every morning.
Khet Khaliyan – It includes the Jhansi Mandi (unorganized market) prices for farmers so that
community gets all the information related to agricultural products. Bundelkhand Radio also broadcasts
discussions about agriculture issues like how to protect seeds, crops & vegetables from insects. Experts
answer question asked by the farmers.
Bal Bandhu – Especially for school-going children. Moral stories, poems and jokes by school
children are included. Story telling through the Radio Jockeys is also a part of this programme.
Bundeloharboloke– This is about the Freedom Fighters of Bundelkhand. Stories of the freedom
fighters & songs related to freedom fighters are also broadcast.
Chhotou Kam Badou Munafou – This programme is for those people who want to do small
business. Small entrepreneurs give tips to take up small business.

9. AasPaas – In this programme, Bundelkhand Radio broadcasts information on Right to
Information (RTI) and any other problem.
Mere Bundeli Mere Geet – is a listener’s programme in which they get the opportunity
to listen to their choice of songs.
AmmakeChauki Se – In this programme community women give their ideas on home
receipes and step by step instructions for preparing the dish.
NuskheNaniDadiKe – In this programme older woman give tips on using home remedies
or Desinuskhe for common ailments and diseases.
Radio Drama – On every Sunday Bundelkhand Radio broadcasts a radio drama.
Sathin – Sathin is a special programme for women. Women from the community tell their
story. They discuss the struggle in their lives and success story too.

10. HOW THE AUDIENCES GET
BENEFITTED:
First, it is communicated orally, using local language, and at relatively low cost.
Secondly, community radio is frequently paired with other communication tools
such as mobile phones.
Every effort is being made to consult the community on important and day-to-day
decisions to ensure ownership.
The programming is based on issues and content identified by the communities
and broadcast in the preferred format that includes the use of traditional Bundeli
songs, folk music and folk plays, discussions, reports, experts speak, coverage of
events in villages, jokes and satire, listeners’ letters and feedback.
11. The broadcast timings in the morning and evening have been selected by the
communities, with the women preferring the mornings and the men the evenings.
The community radio aims to promote and preserve the unique culture and diversity of
the region through programming in Bundeli – a local dialect of Hindi.
It has enabled the people to broadcast in their own language, tell their own story and sing
their own songs. Till date, Radio Bundelkhand has collected 600 songs and around 200
artists from the communities have performed for the radio.
In Bundelkhand, the female literacy rate is less than 50%. In this region, women face the
impact of poverty to a greater extent than the men. The Bundelkhand Radio has a
programme called Stree (women) and Ek din zindagi ka (A day in a life), where the
women have begun to share their stories.

12. Success Stories
Sitapur Garbage Disposal Problem
Aired this problem in the programme called Aas Paas on Radio BDK on
January 15, 2009.
People raised their voice against the lack of a proper garbage disposal system
in the village.
This prompted the Ekta Yuva Mandal to take the necessary steps.
Azadpura Well Problem
Women were facing problems in fetching water because there was no wheel in
the well in Azadpura.
The problem was aired on the programme called Aas Paas.
Within four days, the concerned authority of the village solved the problem by
replacing the wheel in the well.
13. Conclusion:
The Community Radio broadcast and gives a voice to the community
people.
This community radio plays a vital role, which precedence other in
developing nations, agriculture, social awareness etc.
However, Bundelkhand radio still survive and give services to the people of
uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
The community radio bundelkhand is initiative with the development based
with NGO working on development issue.
The Bundelkhand radio is also known as giving voice to the voiceless, it is
totally a part for the development to the people and the social awareness of
the community.
