2. COMPUTER VIRUS
Computer virus is a program that enters into
the computer without the knoweledge of the
user. Some viruses are mild and only cause
messages to appear on the screen, but others
are destructive and can erase the computer’s
memory or cause more severe damages.
3. HISTORY
Computer viruses were first termed simple
‘bugs’ when systems were found to be
crashing or incurred various technical
problems. In the early 1940s, this wasn’t a
problem that could spread to other computers
so easily since networking and linking
computers through a large-scale computer
communication system was not developed.
4. The rise of hackers in the early 1980s became
paramount as the U.S. government discovered
various security breaches and Trojan horse
programs attacking the country’s important
computer networks. In 1983, Fred Cohen of the
University of Southern California termed the
concept of a ‘computer virus’ as any program that
could modify other programs and possibly self-
replicate.
5. WHAT CAN A COMPUTER VIRUS D0?
A computer virus might corrupt or delete data
on your computer, use your email program to
spread itself to other computers, or even erase
everything on your hard disk. Computer
viruses are often spread by attachments in email
messages or instant messaging messages.
6. HOW DOES A COMPUTER VIRUS SPREAD?
Viruses are most easily spread by attachments in
e-mail messages or instant messaging messages.
That is why it is essential that you never open
e-mail attachments unless you know who it's from
and you are expecting it.Viruses also spread
through downloads on the Internet. They can be
hidden in softwares or other files or programs
you might download.
7. SYMPTOMS
Programs takes longer to load.
The program size keeps changing.
Computer restarts in a unusual ways.
Some files or programs don’t work properly.
Computer does not function properly.
Unknown files or programs will be created.
Programs or files become missing.
8. TYPES OF VIRUSES
There are mainly five types of viruses.they are
listed as below:
1.Boot sector virus
2.Program or file virus
3.Multipartite virus
4.Stealth virus
5.Macro virus
9. 1.BOOT SECTOR VIRUS
A boot sector virus is a computer virus that infects
a storage device's master boot record (MBR).It
attaches itself to the first part of the hard disk.
2.PROGRAM VIRUS
A program virus or file infects application programs.
These viruses take control after the initial use of
the infected program.Once the infected program is
executed ,it remains present in the main memory.
10. 3.MULTIPARTITE VIRUS
A multipartite virus is a computer virus that infects and
spreads in multiple ways. They can infect both the application
programs and the boot sector of a disk.
4.STEALTH VIRUS
A stealth virus is complex malware that hides itself after
infecting a computer. Once hidden, it copies information from
uninfected data onto itself and relays this to antivirus
software during a scan.
11. MACRO VIRUS
A macro virus is a computer virus that "infects" a
Microsoft Word or similar application and causes a
sequence of actions to be performed automatically
when the application is started or something else
triggers it.
12. ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARES
Antivirus software is a type of utility used for scanning and
removing viruses from your computer. Some them are given
below:
•Norton antivirus
•eSafe
•Kaspersky antivirus
•Linux sheild
•Quickheal antivirus
•PC tools antivirus
13. HOW TO PREVENT COMPUTER VIRUSES?
We can prevent our computer from computer virus by:
Installing antivrus
Using firewall
Regularly updating programs
Implementing device control
Open email attachment files only if you are expecting the
attached files, or the sender is known and has confirmed
sending the file
Try to avoid downloading and installing software from the
Internet
