Stephen Hawking as Stephen Hawking
#2 ID X and Y.
 Mumbai-based company X has sent a legal notice to the producers of the
film UTV Motion Pictures and Ishana Films dated September 10, 2012 for
infringing the copyrights of their registered trademarks without
obtaining a NOC.
 Apparently, the lyrics of the title song suggests that X's mother desires to
have a child like ______ _____. According to the notice, the mother dies
as soon as an X product is put on and the child is named so, in her
memory.
 Interestingly, the protagonist is named X but he is addressed as Y by all
around him, which is also the name of the movie.
X: Murphy Enterprises
Y: Barfi
#3 ID X, Y, Z, the protagonist and the car.
 About 15 minutes into the pilot episode of X, the protagonist leaves a
courthouse and approaches a Cadillac DeVille in the parking lot. The
gleaming, white ride is the same make and model as the one he drives in
Y.
 But the action takes place years before the slick ambulance chaser's
fateful first encounter with Z; at this point, he is still so unpolished that
he rehearses closing arguments to an audience of urinals, and he drives a
vehicle to match: a yellow-mustard four-door sedan that egests sooty
refuse out of its muffler and purrs with all the grace of a terminal calico.
 The vehicle (pun very much intended by X's producers) is more a
reflection of its owners' unrealized potential, and throughout the pilot,
becomes not only a visual metaphor for him, but a character of its own.
X: Better Call Saul; Y: Breaking Bad
Saul Goodman/Jimmy McGill
Suzuki Esteem
#4 ID X, name the movie and the scene.
 X is an American film and television production company founded in
1994 by director Bryan Singer. Its productions include the X-Men film
series, and the television series House.
 The name is an homage to Steven Spielberg and comes from a line
uttered by Roy Scheider in the 1975 feature Jaws. Martin Brody says to
an elderly swimmer who teases him about not going in the water,”_____
____ ___ ___ _____.”
 One of their logos features an animated version of the above scene
whereas another one features the silhouette of an iconic scene from a
movie they produced.
The lineup scene from The Usual Suspects.

#6 Name the protein.
 Research scientists at the Osaka Bioscience Institute made a shocking
discovery when researching human vision. Scientists and doctors
worldwide will now need to add a new word to their expansive
vocabulary, particularly those involved with human vision.
 It is a protein discovered and named by a group of 18 Japanese research
scientists at the Osaka Bioscience Institute. The protein's function and
properties bear similarity to its namesake , _______.
 The protein is used for transmitting signals (electrical impulses) from
the human eyes to the brain. It is also used heavily in the eyes to assist
tracking of moving objects. Without it, these electrical impulses sent
from the eyes to the brain would take around three to four times as
long to reach their destination.
Pikachurin, named after Pikachu.
#7 What was the point of controversy?
 One of the promotional posters for House M.D features Hugh Laurie
wrapped in two snakes with a pair of wings behind him.
 The depiction of something in this poster has long been a point of
controversy and satirical humour within the US medical community.
 (Image follows)
It featured Hugh Laurie wrapped in two snakes with a pair of wings behind him,
a recreation of the Greek Caduceus symbol. Foreign fans might be confused by
this, because the correct symbol is the rod of Asclepius, the healer, a similar
symbol having only one coiled snake and no wings. However, within the US, the
Caduceus is as commonly used as the more correct Rod of Asclepius, as its use
was popularized around the turn of the century. As the Caduceus is actually the
symbol of merchants and thieves, its use has long been a point of controversy
and satirical humor within the US medical community.
#8 Name the book and the drink.
 The ______ ____, also called ______ ______ is a highball cocktail
drink. The book does not specify ingredients, so there are many
variations, all of which use a large milk base and some have drugs,
such as barbiturates added.
 In the book, it is stated one may have it with 'vellocet' (opiate),
'synthemesc' (synthetic mescaline), 'drencrom' (adrenochrome) or other
hallucinogen substances. Minors may be served this drink since it
contains drugs that have not been declared illegal.
 The drink's name originates from the Nadsat word for milk. The main
characters in the book prepare for "ultraviolence" by drinking it.
Moloko Plus from A Clockwork Orange

haunted houses, primarily The Amityville Horror and Poltergeist.
 In the second segment, Kang and Kodos are introduced when the X are
abducted by aliens.
 In the third, Y’s Z is adapted. James Earl Jones guest starred in all three
segments. The episode was received positively, being included on several
critics' "best of" lists.
 Critics singled out Z for praise, although X creator was concerned that it
would be seen as pretentious.
X: The Simpsons
Y: Edgar Allan Poe
Z: The Raven
#10 X and Y?
 HBO’s “The Newsroom” signed off with a frustrating combination of sharp
insight and random self-absorption.
 Creator Aaron Sorkin naturally got in a few last jabs at the way journalism
is practiced these days, using last week’s death of old-school pillar Charlie
Skinner (Sam Waterston) to remind us how vapid some of the new school
can be.
 A classic Sorkin touch, was tapping Daniels’ musical skills for an extended
rendition of X’s Y. Turns out Will once heard Charlie play the song, and by
the end of the show it had been imbued with profound significance,
reminding us all of how we got to wherever we’ve gotten to in life.
Tom T Hall – That’s How I Got To Memphis

line "Call me Ishmael" which is the opening line from the novel.
 The map feature of the phone locates Nantucket, Massachusetts, which is
where the _______ in the novel depart from.
 Then a search for Y ensues, using a combination of chats, web searches,
audio recognition, and more.
X: Herman Melville
Y: Moby Dick

_____ __ ____. The movement has been gaining ground in the US as of
late.
 Neil deGrasse Tyson later joined the conversation and pointed out
inaccuracies in his arguments. But Tyson assured him: “Being five

David Letterman
#9 Which band?
 X are an English indie rock band formed in 2007 in Leeds. The band's
unusual sound stems from the fact that due to living in student halls,
where noise had to be kept to a minimum, they were unable to use
bass guitars or bass drums.
 They are known as both "Daljit Dhaliwal" and "Films, but were later
forced to change to X because an American band called "The Films"
already existed.
 Their current name, comes from a Greek letter which is used as the
mathematical symbol for change. However it’s pronounced X because if

#11 X and Y?
 Born Y Little (and later also known as el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz) in Omaha,
Nebraska, on 19 May 1925, he was the fourth of eight children of the Reverend
Earl Little and his wife, Louise.
 In 1941 he moved to Boston to live with his half sister, Ella. He became caught
up in the nightlife of Boston and, later, New York. After a few years in the
underworld of Harlem, selling drugs and working for call-girl services, he began
a burglary ring in Boston. In 1946, at the age of twenty-one, he was arrested for
armed robbery and sent to prison.
 Upon his release he changed his name to Y X, the X representing the unknown
name of his African ancestors and their culture that had been lost during
slavery. His commanding stage presence, quick wit, and erudition, combined
with the authenticity of his experience as a street hustler, made Y a remarkable
orator and a dynamic leader.
Y: Malcolm; X: X
#12 ID X.
 It was common in Athenian society for boys to be named after grandfathers
(or fathers). But there is only one inscriptional record of an Aristocles, an
early Archon of Athens in 605/4 BCE. There is no record of a line from
Aristocles to Xs father, Ariston.
 However, if X was not named after an ancestor named X (there is no record
of one), then the origin of his renaming as X becomes a conundrum. The
sources of Diogenes account for this fact by claiming that his wrestling
coach, Ariston of Argos, dubbed him _______meaning "broad," on account of
his robust figure or that X derived his name from the breadth of his
eloquence, or else because he was very ) across the forehead.
Plato
#13 X?
 A hobble skirt was a skirt with a narrow enough hem to significantly
impede the wearer's stride, and was a short-lived fashion trend around
the turn of the 19th to the 20th century and the early 1910s.
 The name was given in reference to the device used to restrain, or
hobble, horses. A knee-long corset was also used to achieve this effect. A
dress consisting of such skirt was called a hobble dress.
 Its resemblance to X is uncanny which is why X is often referred to as the
hobble-skirt design.

#14 X?
 It is said that birth of X happened in Britain, where housewives started
protesting against liquor advertisements which provoked their husbands.
 The protest rose to a level where liquor advertising had to be banned and
brand owners seeing no way out decided to promote fruit juices and soda
under the brand name.
 In India, extensive surveys resulted in similar findings which showed that
liquor ads had direct influence on consumers' purchasing behaviour. Soon
afterwards, the Cable TV Regulation Act banned liquor and cigarette
advertisements; thus, India gradually adopted X.
 However, according to the inferences drawn from several surveys and
interviews, 42 out of 50 people can understand the actual liquor or tobacco
product being advertised.

#21 What’s the good word?
 The word X comes from a Nahuatl Indian (Aztec) word “ahuácatl”

aphrodisiac qualities by the Aztecs.
 In English, it was first described as an “_______ ____” because of

Cambridge.
 It has been suggested that most members of Cambridge Colleges left
for their houses in the country which certainly suggests a reason as

Isaac Newton developed the law of gravitation, calculus, and
three laws of motion at the age of 23 all during the 2 years
that Cambridge was closed due to plague.
#23 What phrase?
 This popular phrase coined by British holidaymakers in Spain back in the
early 1970's. New to the Iberian peninsula - with no grasp of the
language, and somewhat wary of Spanish hospitality - women especially,
adopted the phrase, as the ultimate, verbal deterrent when warding off
amorous advances.
 It is probably the most famous of phrases, of what is known locally,
today as, "Spanglish". Many retired Brits in Spain prefer only to sound
authoritative, rather than expose their inadequate conversational skills
amongst the local community. To use at least one word of Spanish mixed
with English is the end result.
#24 Fill in the blanks.

it is time to drink) declared by the character was also reused by X.
 When Y was originally sketched out, _____ were light in color, and black
versions only appeared in 1912 when a preservative, carbon black, was
added to the manufacturing process.
 Such is the public warmth toward the X that he has on occasion broken out
of the realms of advertising and entered other forms of popular culture. The
company recognized this early on, and put him at the centre of their
flagship Y Building in London, built in 1911.

Der Speigel after the game. VfL confirmed the incident, but denied that
the two Belgians were thrown out of the stadium because of the critical
contents of the banner.
 (Image follows)
They criticized Volkswagen over the recent emissions
scandal by holding up a banner which read 'We do not need
cheat software' in a thinly veiled reference to the scandal.
And since VFL's parent company is VW and even the stadium
is named the Volkswagen Stadion.

due to their few stops and relatively faster speeds compared with
other non-Rajdhani and nonShatabdi express trains although initially
they ran non stop once they left their respective states.
 The railway minister at the time Nitish Kumar in the interim Railway

  • 3. #1 Fill in the blanks.
  • 4. Stephen Hawking as Stephen Hawking
  • 5. #2 ID X and Y.  Mumbai-based company X has sent a legal notice to the producers of the film UTV Motion Pictures and Ishana Films dated September 10, 2012 for infringing the copyrights of their registered trademarks without obtaining a NOC.  Apparently, the lyrics of the title song suggests that X's mother desires to have a child like ______ _____. According to the notice, the mother dies as soon as an X product is put on and the child is named so, in her memory.  Interestingly, the protagonist is named X but he is addressed as Y by all around him, which is also the name of the movie.
  • 7. #3 ID X, Y, Z, the protagonist and the car.  About 15 minutes into the pilot episode of X, the protagonist leaves a courthouse and approaches a Cadillac DeVille in the parking lot. The gleaming, white ride is the same make and model as the one he drives in Y.  But the action takes place years before the slick ambulance chaser's fateful first encounter with Z; at this point, he is still so unpolished that he rehearses closing arguments to an audience of urinals, and he drives a vehicle to match: a yellow-mustard four-door sedan that egests sooty refuse out of its muffler and purrs with all the grace of a terminal calico.  The vehicle (pun very much intended by X's producers) is more a reflection of its owners' unrealized potential, and throughout the pilot, becomes not only a visual metaphor for him, but a character of its own.

  • 16.
  • 17. It featured Hugh Laurie wrapped in two snakes with a pair of wings behind him, a recreation of the Greek Caduceus symbol. Foreign fans might be confused by this, because the correct symbol is the rod of Asclepius, the healer, a similar symbol having only one coiled snake and no wings. However, within the US, the Caduceus is as commonly used as the more correct Rod of Asclepius, as its use was popularized around the turn of the century. As the Caduceus is actually the symbol of merchants and thieves, its use has long been a point of controversy and satirical humor within the US medical community.
