The fitness coach of the USA national team in the 1930 World Cup is often
praised for the fitness that the players of the USA national team demonstrated
during the tournament even after the 18 day journey to Montevideo.
Throwback to one of the semi-finals of the first World Cup, Argentina were their
usual self throwing in contentious tackles. However, after the third goal versus
USA, one of the players of the USA had his “lip ripped open” by a tackle from an
Argentine.
Needless to say the physical trainer of the USA national team rushed to the aid of
the player but ended up getting stretchered off the field himself.
