1. In what ways, does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of
real media products?
When it came to planning our music video, we wanted to create a video that didn’t fit all the
normal codes and conventions and we wanted to create a hybrid music video because we
felt, that by having a different type of music video it would allow us to target our video at a
bigger audience as people enjoy watching narrative performances that have an interesting
storyline. But by using only two boys in our music video it challenges the codes as the other
videos that we have seen, has had three or more members so by having this sort of video it
stands out against the other videos I have been analysing for our primary research. The
theme of our music video is to show off the ‘wild’ side of people that normally theory don’t
show. The song is called ‘Like Dogs’ and throughout our video the theme is to show that the
band members can be wild but then smart when it comes to live performances and this
shows to people how there can be two different sides to someone. By having a music video
that was taken from the boy’s point of view and showing off the relationship it makes the
video more interesting as we have used lots of different shots, and by having these different
shot types it makes people want to watch more but also other videos are unlike this. For
example a video that we took inspiration from was ‘Nights by Avicii’ because during his
video he is getting filmed from someone else and shows off his life and we felt that this way
of filming is very effective in showing off someone’s point of view in a very creative way.
