Question 2
Representations
Front cover- How are the people in your magazine
represented in the magazine?
• I think the people in my magazine are represented as being aggressive
and careless. This is suitable for the target audience which are 11-20
years old and mainly males because that is the stereotype. One way I
have represented this is through the mise-en-scène used in the
images. On my front cover the artist is wearing a leather jacket which
are associated with rock stars and bikers.
• As well as the use of mise-en-scene being used to represent gender
and age I have also used masculine colours which are more appealing
to males and people of that age.
• This page is stereotypical for these social groups because the image
and the mise-en-scene I have used is typical for the age group and
social class I am aiming my magazine at.
Contents page- How are the people in your magazine
represented in the magazine?
• On my contents page I think I have represented people as being
careless and relaxed because for my main images the artist is just
looking of into the distance without a care in the world. The wide
shot also represents isolation of the artist.
• For my other images the artist/editor both have straight faces or
look really relaxed. I think this represents my social groups quite
well because my audience will probably have the same attitude as
the artists.
• I have represented people through the fonts as well as images
because the font I have used for the headings are fairly rough and
have a destroyed effect to it. This makes it seem quite aggressive
and masculine.
Double page spread-How are the people in your magazine
represented in the magazine?
I have represented my social group in this page by the use
of font, colour, image and language.
• The font I have used is bold by still has a destroyed
effect to it which is convectional for rock magazines
and it also represents my target audience because
they are stereotyped to be destructive and rule
breakers.
• The colours I have used are dark and gloomy and the
setting of the image is also quite sinister and dark
which is all stereotypical for my social groups.
• The language is also easy to understand for the age of
the readers and it could also be language they use or
can relate to.
