Central to the campaign is the insight that people cannot see mental health disorders and thus cannot empathize with those affected. The proposed solution is a "Can You See Now" campaign using billboards and print ads to depict life from the perspective of those with mental disorders in order to educate the public and reduce stigma.

This document discusses how the film poster and magazine created by the author both conform to and subvert conventions of real media products.
The film poster conforms to typical components like the title, credits, logos, and main image, but subverts by not including a tagline. The lighting on the main character is meant to symbolize answers being close.
The film magazine layout similarly conforms to real examples, but the bold red masthead subverts expectations for a horror magazine. Both the poster and magazine feature the main characters lit from behind with crosses and candles in the background to set the religiously-themed haunting story. Photos are taken from below eye level for a more dramatic effect.
The document discusses conventions used in various ancillary products for a horror film, including a magazine cover, poster, trailer, and compares them to professional examples. It analyzes conventions in areas like mastheads, headlines, images, slogans, and finds that while some elements follow conventions of the genre and form, others could be improved. For example, the magazine cover masthead is too long, the trailer could use more music variation, and the poster slogan would work better in the top third like the professional example. In general, it evaluates how well the ancillary pieces adhere to or diverge from typical conventions for horror film marketing collateral.
The document summarizes the design process for a movie poster and magazine cover created to promote a psychological horror film called "Delirium." For the poster, an extreme close-up of an eye was used as the background image to create a sense of claustrophobia. Images of a pill and the word "Delirium" were superimposed onto the eye. For the magazine cover, the main character Anna is depicted with blood spatters and the names of other characters superimposed above her head to suggest she is thinking about them and introduce the characters to readers. Both the poster and magazine cover aim to appeal to fans of psychological horror between ages 15-35 through their use of visual elements that emphasize themes of fear,
The document discusses a media product created by the student consisting of a movie poster, magazine front cover, and teaser trailer for a horror film called "All Hallows Eve." The student analyzed how their media product uses conventions of real media forms and genres. Various software programs like Photoshop, Piknik, and Adobe Elements were used to construct, research, plan, and evaluate the different elements of the media product.
The document discusses a media promotion package for a new horror film including a teaser trailer, magazine front cover, and movie poster. It analyzes how each component uses conventions of real media products in their respective genres and how media technologies like Photoshop, Piknik, and Adobe Elements were used to construct, research, plan, and evaluate the project. The marketing mix of the three promotional products is intended to gain wide coverage and sell the film through different marketing channels.
The document discusses the effectiveness of combining a horror film's main product (trailer) with ancillary products (poster and magazine cover). Key techniques used in the poster and magazine cover included a ghostly font for the film title and tagline to create unity with the trailer. Both ancillary products featured the main actors in close-up shots with blank expressions, pale makeup, and low-key lighting to match the sinister tone set in the trailer. These visual connections between the products help promote the psychological thriller narrative of the film.
The document summarizes the tasks and products required for the media evaluation assignment, which included creating a movie trailer, magazine front cover, and movie poster. It then discusses the conventions of movie magazines and posters that were researched and what was learned. Specific details are provided about the design elements and techniques used in the student's magazine cover and movie poster to follow conventions and promote the fictional horror film created.
The document discusses how the media producer's magazine, poster, and trailer for a horror film called "We Need to Talk About Robert" use and challenge conventions of real media products in similar and different ways. Specifically, the magazine, poster, and trailer all use conventions like incorporating the film's title and villain/protagonist. However, they also challenge conventions, like putting the villain instead of protagonist on the magazine cover and using ambiguous language for the film's release date on the poster. The document also discusses how the color schemes, fonts, camera angles, and photography are effectively combined across the products to maintain consistency with horror genre conventions.
The document discusses Ella Duncan's media products and how they use conventions of real media. For her movie poster, she followed conventions of real action thriller posters such as using red and lighting to distinguish the victim and antagonist. Her magazine cover was inspired by a 2009 issue of Fashion magazine and used similar colors, fonts, and actor pose. Her movie trailer included elements like a green band and jump cuts between scenes that are conventional for action thriller trailers. She researched examples like the movie The Box and Taken to inform the design of her media products.
This is the first evaluation question I am required to answer as part of my A2 Media Studies coursework. This answer looks at the ways my media products (magazine cover, film poster and film trailer) resemble real products out there
The document provides an evaluation of the student's media studies advanced portfolio project which included creating a film trailer, blog, film poster, and magazine cover.
The student analyzed existing horror film trailers and conventions to develop their thriller genre trailer about three teenage students at an old school building. Feedback indicated the unexpected antagonist and vulnerable teen characters were appealing.
Technologies like cameras, iMovie, Photoshop, and surveys were used at different stages for construction, research, planning and evaluation. Lessons included managing time better on ancillary tasks and improving background music in the trailer.
The document is a reflection by Christina Fisher on their media coursework, which involved creating a magazine cover, movie poster, and teaser trailer to promote a fictional horror film called "The Cure". Christina analyzes how their products used conventions from real media, such as colors, fonts, imagery, and layout. Feedback from audiences suggested improving the movie poster and making the trailer feel more professional. New media technologies like iMovie and video cameras were used to construct and film elements of the project.
My Magazine vs Existing Magazine Covers Sara Evening
The document discusses the process of creating a magazine cover to promote a horror film. It analyzes existing film magazine covers from publications like Empire and Total Film to identify typical conventions such as the masthead, headline, cover lines, and feature article photo. The cover created challenges audience expectations by depicting the "villain" as a character hiding behind a laptop rather than the intimidating figure on the poster. Elements like fonts, buzzwords, and lack of busy backgrounds aim to attract audiences while representing the film's storyline involving computers and games. The goal is to follow film magazine conventions but also challenge expectations through visual representations and audience targeting.
The document discusses the conventions of film magazine covers and how the student's media project for a magazine cover about the film "To My Twin?" followed or subverted those conventions. The conventions included having an instantly recognizable masthead, unique selling points, emphasizing the film title, reflecting the genre through imagery and background, and making the film title a focal point. The student aimed to follow conventions like these while also subverting the convention of emphasizing a single main character by instead depicting both main characters as equal.
The document discusses the effectiveness of combining the main product (a horror film trailer) with ancillary texts (a poster and magazine front cover).
Some key points made:
- The same distinct font and colors are used across all three products to brand the film and link the items together.
- Costumes in the trailer and magazine are similar everyday clothes to seem realistic, while the poster uses a prop knife and tarot cards.
- Colors like red, black, and white that suggest danger, death, and conflict are used consistently.
- Settings create a sense of vulnerability for the protagonists in different subtle ways across the products.
- Different elements are emphasized depending on the purpose and conventions of
The document discusses conventions used in real media products like film posters and magazines and how the author applied those conventions to their own print products. For their film poster, they used conventions like a large central image, bold title, small credits, and dark background. Their magazine cover similarly followed conventions with a masthead, tagline, cover lines of varying sizes/colors, website/price info, and multiple images. The author researched real products to identify common conventions to develop their own print products that resembled genuine media in form and style.
The document discusses the conventions of film magazine covers and how the student's media project both followed and subverted some of those conventions. Some key conventions included having an instantly recognizable masthead, unique selling points to advertise content, featuring the main characters and title of the focused film as the main visual, and using color/mise-en-scene to reflect the film's genre. The student generally followed these conventions but subverted one by emphasizing both main characters equally in the photo rather than one character, to convey the film's theme of equality between the two sisters.

This presentation was provided by Steph Pollock of The American Psychological Association’s Journals Program, and Damita Snow, of The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), for the initial session of NISO's 2024 Training Series "DEIA in the Scholarly Landscape." Session One: 'Setting Expectations: a DEIA Primer,' was held June 6, 2024.
1. Q1a) In what ways do your media
products use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real media
products?
2. Here I have presented my media product and I will explore as to
how it conforms and subverts typical media conventions of real media
products. An example of how my product conforms to what is expected
of typical horror posters is through iconography. The blood splatters
makes evident of the genre which my film is based around. I used
Photoshop to create my poster, using the font SF Movie Poster to create
my credits in a form of a billing block and placed it at the bottom of the
poster, again following the conventions of the usual placement of the
billing block on a film poster.
With regards to the my main image, I used the chiaroscuro effect which
again suggests that it is a horror film. This creates a rather eerie and
contrasting effect in the character as we can see both light and dark,
which could reflect the characters personality
The tag line ‘He was conceived by the evil spirit’ again highlights that the
genre is super natural and the fact that some evil spirit plays a major role
in the film. In addition, it also makes us question as to ‘He’ is and how he
was conceived by this evil spirit, consequently creating a feeling of
suspense,
POSTER
3. What I have presented here is my film magazine front cover and how it
conforms or subverts from the typical film magazine. I have placed the
master head is placed at the top of the front cover which conforms to
conventions of magazines as it has the intention to grasp the attention of
the reader and draw them towards the name of the magazine. Below this
is the tag line of the magazine, again conforming to the location of the
standard tag line.
I conformed to the standard convention of a front cover by ensuring that
the model looked straight at the camera and through mise en scene I
subverted the typical horror movie covers by dressing my model in white
which generally symbolises purity.
You can immediately get the idea that the film is a horror film through
the blood on the hands of the model. It leaves us to question as to why
he has blood on his hand and we get the impression that he is the
person causing the disruption. To compare my magazine to others and
gaining an insight into standard horror movie front covers, I gained
inspiration from Empire magazine and followed some convention that is
possessed.
Furthermore, I included the names of some famous horror films ‘Devil
Inside’ and ‘Conjuring’ as it has the intention to gain the attention of
those who are fans of these films.
MAGAZINE
4. For my film poster, I gained inspiration
from the horror film poster ‘Smiley’.
Similar conventions that my poster
possess with Smiley is that both models
are looking directly at the camera. The
colour schemes of the text is also the
same as my poster, following a red and
white colour scheme this is a fairly
typical convention of a horror film
poster.
I also gained some inspiration from
the horror movie poster of the film
‘Red City’ Similar conventions that both
posters possess is the blood splatters which
grabs the attention of the viewer and
immediately makes evident of the genre.
however the main imagine subverts my
main image at the model does not look
directly at the camera and instead is looking
at the side.
MY INSPIRATION
For my magazine, again I have the model
looking directly at the camera, which is very
common as you can see in the magazine Empire
another similarity is that the master head is placed
at the top of the magazine, as it usually is on a magazine.
both my magazine and the Empire magazine have bottoms
On the right hand side of the magazine which posses a
selling point. Both magazines also possesses a feature of other
horror film, which again will attract the attention of those who are
keen on these films.
