The document summarizes the key frames and design choices in the author's opening title sequence for a thriller film. Some conventions used include low key lighting, quick cuts, shadows, and tension music to set the tone. However, losing a main character early on challenges conventions. Frames establish the dark, overgrown forest location and introduce the two main characters. Later frames symbolize the rushing of time and show the antagonist attacking, dragging one character off to shock audiences. The title card reveals the film is called "The Secret" to pique interest in the mystery of the forest.

1. 1) In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?
2. How my opening sequence uses generic codes
and conventions
There is loads of the generic codes and conventions in my title sequence. A few examples of this is. Very low key
lighting, quick cuts, shadows, tension music and black and white shots. I used the black and white shots to give
the opening a old and retro feel to automatically capture the audiences attention.
I had a constant backing track throughout the opening. The music does peak and descend in certain
points throughout the opening to highlight important areas. I did this to attract the audience and to make more
important areas easier to identify.
There are certain iconography feature that I have used in my title sequence. Such as a huge use of
shadows and uses of low key lighting. I have used these two features to really try and get the concept of the
opening across. That the forest that the boys have just wondered into is a lot darker and more secretive than
they really know.
3. How my title
sequence challenges general codes
and conventions
Several conventions have been used because they are a common thing to see and head in the
thriller genre. Such as the shadows, quick cuts and tension music
However on the other hand losing a main character so early in the film is not commonly seen in
the genre. I was aiming to capture the audience attention quickly and easily
I felt that it was appropriate to go ahead with this decision because there was a second lead
that could easily take the limelight
5. frame 1This is the first shot we get
of the location and one
of our main characters .
I hoped this first shot
would easily establish the
location of the opening.With
the overgrown
vines invading the path and
with the large trees in the
background
I made the
actor look very quickly towards
the camera. I did this
because I didn’t want the actor
to give use a huge ravele of his
face so early in the sequence
I had to use a bold font so
it wasn’t overshadowed by
the black and white shot
6. Frame 2Frame two is very similar
to frame one. However in
this scene we get a close
up of our other main
character
I gave the other
actor a close up straight
away because so far in the
opening we have only
heard his voice.
I also hoped to try and
get the audience to
have more of a bond
with this
character in the openin
g. Because this
character will take over
from our over lead at
the end of the
sequence
7. Frame 3
Frame 3 is
more of establishing the
location of the
film and getting the
audience acquainted with
their surroundings
I feel that the location is such
a important feature in
my opening.This is because
the entire narrative
revolves around the
secrets that this forest holds.
The way the trees
and branches tangle are an
indication of what is
to come. I wanted to try
and get a hidden meaning
across that the plot is
going to be twisted and
tangled.
8. Frame 4
This is the a
more detailed look at our
main character
i made my actor dress like
this because I wanted to get
across the harsh environment
the rain was heavy on the
way of filming but I liked
the way it made my
characters act it gave the
opening a sense of
verisimilitude.
9. Frame 4
Frame 4 was a
quick transition between
this scene and the last.
Both actors hear a loud
shout and they run up the
path
This scene is so important
for the narrative. I used
a handheld shot to keep
that sense of realism
throughout the opening.
In this scene I made the
actors coat darker to
give that feel of death
and darkness to the scene
I did this to signify death and
the outcome of this character in
the near future.
10. Frame 5
frame 5 is of a
fast flowing stream to
any person looking at this
scene they may not no
the importance of it
I included this scene to try
and symbolize that as the
water quickly rush way so
does the time of our main
chacater as his time is
quickly running out
11. Frame 6
Frame 6 is where we first
see our fully
blacked out antagonist
I made this
character dress I full black
to enforce that feel
of death and destruction.
I also made him hold
a wooden
staff to symbolize that he
has had to use the
environment to fuel his
addiction of killing
innocent people
12. frame 7This scene completely
changes the
narrative and I tried to
make it shock the
audience as much as I
could
our blacked out
antagonist drags the main
actor out of shot but no
out of the minds of
the audience. I wanted
to use this shot to get the
audience thinking as much
as I could ''who
is that man'' ,
''what's going to happen
to him now'' those sort
of questions
I used a wide angle shot to
still get the sense of
the locations across to the
audience that anybody
could be hiding around any
corner
13. Frame 8In this frame we see the
name of the film.The
main aim of the title
sequence was to get
the audience wanting
more and a name with
secret in it just
enforces that element of
the opening.
With the name
running across the
entire frame I was
aiming to
enforce the
importance of the
forest.
This scene sets up for the
narrative for the rest of the
film. ''What is the secret''
Some of the audience may think
that the secret of the forest is this
single act however they
don’t know the true depths of
the secret
14. Frame 9
frame nine is
a transition called dip to
black
I used this
particular transition to give
the audience time to
acknowledge what they
have just seen.
I also reused one of
the previous shots in
the opening to give the
audience that sense
of familiarity. I have done
this to enforce that fact
that the location isn't
going to be jumping from
location to location
between scenes.
