1. In what ways does your
music video use, develop or
     challenge forms and
 conventions of real music
           videos?
Before creating our music video, we looked at
the forms and conventions of the pop music
 genre, these are:

- Fast cuts to keep up with the pace of the track
- Bright colours
- Usually has a narrative (usually a love story)
- Close up’s of artist
- Fun and light hearted
- Appeals to younger target audience
Our music video uses and develops these forms and conventions of real pop music
videos by using these forms and conventions:

- We have lots of fast cuts that are on the beat. This makes it seem fast paced to go with
    the pace of the track.
- There are also lots of happy memories of the artist and her boyfriend having fun and
    laughing
- The narrative is about a couple having a fight but then realising that they love each other
- When showing the happy moments and memories we brightened the colours in the
    scene
- Overall I think that our music video is not too serious and is quite light hearted and fun
- It would appeal to a younger target audience because of the love narrative, they might be
able to relate to Carmel’s situation
- We include lots of close ups of our artists face which helps to promote her

• Our music video does not challenge the usual conventions as it contains the
average conventions of the pop genre.
Goodwin’s theory
Goodwin’s theory is made up of 6 main principles which can be applied to music
videos. These are:

- Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics
- Close ups of artists face
- Relationship between lyrics and visuals
- Relationship between music and visuals
- Reference to the notion of looking and voyeurism
- Intertextuality

This is how our music video follows the forms and conventions of real
music videos, by using this theory...
