Marie of Romania was the last Queen of Romania as the wife of King Ferdinand I. She was born in 1875 in Great Britain to Prince Alfred of Saxa-Coburg and Gotha and Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia. Marie married Prince Ferdinand I of Romania at age 16 and they had five children together, including Carol II who later became king of Romania. Marie helped support Romania during World War I and advocated for the country after the war but grew estranged from her son later in life.
