There are two main types: exploratory research which is inexpensive and open-ended, and conclusive research which uses a formal research process and large, representative data samples. Examples include surveys to calculate averages like time spent with patients or returns on investments. The presentation concludes by proposing a survey on parents' and students' decisions regarding returning to face-to-face classes.

emphasis is placed on the testing of theory, shaped by empiricist and positivist
philosophies.
