The document summarizes 100 years of the Leica camera, beginning with Oskar Barnack designing the first Leica camera, called the Ur-Leica, in 1914 while working for Ernst Leitz. The small 35mm film camera went into production in 1925 and revolutionized photography by allowing photojournalists to document world events. Over the following 100 years, famous photographers used Leica cameras to capture iconic images that documented history from the Hindenburg to the Vietnam War to everyday life around the world.
Developing nations typically have 5 key characteristics: 1) widespread poverty where basic needs cannot be reliably met; 2) a large percentage (50-70%) of the workforce in agriculture, which is unreliable due to poor soil/tools/conditions and results in food shortages; 3) scarce capital both physical (tools, infrastructure) and human (education, skills); 4) limited imports due to low exports after meeting local needs with natural resources; and 5) rapidly growing populations which further strains limited resources.

Technology enabled behavior changes for diabetic patientsJames Rose
Technology enabled behavioral changes can improve care for diabetic patients. A patient engagement system uses algorithms to analyze patient data like A1C and lipid levels, then sends alerts and reminders to both patients and providers. This increases recommended testing compliance up to 74% and supports best practices. Studies show such systems can reduce hospital admissions, ER visits, and overall costs while improving population health metrics. Engaging patients and providers in the care process through technology results in better financial, operational and health outcomes for medical groups.

Parallel Session 3.2 Innovations in Acute Flow and Capacity ManagementNHSScotlandEvent
Patient flow refers to the movement of patients through the healthcare system. Slow patient flow can negatively impact quality of care and increase costs. When patient flow slows down, more patients are at risk of dying from delays in treatment or medical errors. It also increases costs due to longer lengths of stay, increased use of expensive hospital resources, and less efficient use of staff time. Improving patient flow requires considering the entire patient journey, separating elective and emergency care streams, eliminating unnecessary variability, and ensuring capacity matches demand.

It highlights the Bovie 2250 electrosurgical generator as offering the most consistent energy delivery for demanding procedures like liposuction, tummy tucks, and breast augmentation/reduction. Accessories for electrosurgery are also listed.
This document discusses assessing procedural competency for gastroenterology fellows. It notes that while minimum procedure numbers are often cited, competency depends more on skills and achieving defined performance standards. Tools like procedure logs and evaluation forms can help programs more fully assess fellows' abilities. The adoption of milestones in competency-based medical education will further shift the focus from mere numbers to demonstrating progress along a continuum of skills. Programs will need to carefully define competency criteria and have reliable, validated ways to track fellows' performance over time.

Breast cancer: Post menopausal endocrine therapyDr. Sumit KUMAR
Breast cancer in postmenopausal women with hormone receptor-positive (HR+) status is a common and complex condition that necessitates a multifaceted approach to management. HR+ breast cancer means that the cancer cells grow in response to hormones such as estrogen and progesterone. This subtype is prevalent among postmenopausal women and typically exhibits a more indolent course compared to other forms of breast cancer, which allows for a variety of treatment options.
Diagnosis and Staging
The diagnosis of HR+ breast cancer begins with clinical evaluation, imaging, and biopsy. Imaging modalities such as mammography, ultrasound, and MRI help in assessing the extent of the disease. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample confirm the diagnosis and hormone receptor status by identifying the presence of estrogen receptors (ER) and progesterone receptors (PR) on the tumor cells.
Staging involves determining the size of the tumor (T), the involvement of regional lymph nodes (N), and the presence of distant metastasis (M). The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system is commonly used. Accurate staging is critical as it guides treatment decisions.
Treatment Options
Endocrine Therapy
Endocrine therapy is the cornerstone of treatment for HR+ breast cancer in postmenopausal women. The primary goal is to reduce the levels of estrogen or block its effects on cancer cells. Commonly used agents include:
Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulators (SERMs): Tamoxifen is a SERM that binds to estrogen receptors, blocking estrogen from stimulating breast cancer cells. It is effective but may have side effects such as increased risk of endometrial cancer and thromboembolic events.
Aromatase Inhibitors (AIs): These drugs, including anastrozole, letrozole, and exemestane, lower estrogen levels by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme, which converts androgens to estrogen in peripheral tissues. AIs are generally preferred in postmenopausal women due to their efficacy and safety profile compared to tamoxifen.
Selective Estrogen Receptor Downregulators (SERDs): Fulvestrant is a SERD that degrades estrogen receptors and is used in cases where resistance to other endocrine therapies develops.
Combination Therapies
Combining endocrine therapy with other treatments enhances efficacy. Examples include:
Endocrine Therapy with CDK4/6 Inhibitors: Palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are CDK4/6 inhibitors that, when combined with endocrine therapy, significantly improve progression-free survival in advanced HR+ breast cancer.
Endocrine Therapy with mTOR Inhibitors: Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, can be added to endocrine therapy for patients who have developed resistance to aromatase inhibitors.
Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy is generally reserved for patients with high-risk features, such as large tumor size, high-grade histology, or extensive lymph node involvement. Regimens often include anthracyclines and taxanes.

8 Surprising Reasons To Meditate 40 Minutes A Day That Can Change Your Life.pptxHolistified Wellness
We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.
