BENCHMARKING
A best practice is a method or
technique that has consistently shown
results superior to those achieved with
other means
Benchmarking is the process of
comparing one's business processes
and performance metrics to industry
bests or best practices from other
companies
Best practice at Toyota:
Toyota is known for continuous
innovation in best practices. Some of the
world famous best practices innovated
by toyota are:
JIT ( just in time )
Lean
Kanban
Kaizen etc.
Best practices of pizza hut:
High Quality Food-
Being a chain series restaurant, it is a
must to maintain high quality. Pizza hut
has done so for the past many years
which has given it an edge over its
competitors.
Core competency of pizza hut is their
variety in the choice of pizza. New
variants like crown pizzas, salads etc.
are examples.
Best practices of Indian
army:
Unbiased recruitment process in terms of
religions, casts and gender.
India being a secular country it is
necessary that all religions and casts must
be treated with utmost respect. To express
this every Indian army camp has a place of
worship for all religions, for example a
small temple or mosque etc.
“It is mainly due to these reasons that Indian
army boasts the worlds largest voluntary
force.”
Best practices of ants:
Ants are insects which show incredible traits such as
team work, hard work and discipline.
Team work- any big task whether moving a giant
piece or many small pieces of food, they always can
be found working as a team.
Hard work- they work continuously, travel a long path
and carry weights of more than their own weights.
Discipline- they can always be seen walking or
working in a very disciplined manner
Whenever two ants cross ways, they always connect to
each other before parting ways. It shows a great
‘togetherness’.
Best practices at Nirma
University (our college)
Hard work- the rigorous and competitive environment
leads students to work hard to get to the depths of
knowledge and even harder every next time.
Team work- different clubs and committees are
formed to work in specific areas under the guidance
of respective lead professors, like sports committee,
fiesta(the dance and music club) etc.
Also, each time different groups are created for
different case studies so that students can get vast
team work experiences.
Discipline- strict rules and regulations are governed
by the institute and followed by students.
Best practices at Nirma
University (our college)
[continue]Best quality infrastructure such as full sized outdoor
sports fields, coupled with high quality study material
such as ace-equity, is provided.
Continuous improvement (kaizen) is applied on each
factor, for example better lecture series, feedbacks
for different activities and faculties etc.
Lean process is applied as much as possible. The
ATM is made inside the building and a single guard
is provided for them.
No Biasing, of any kind, is done during the selection
process, beat it to be students, faculty or even the
workers and cleaning staff.
Learning outcomes:
Many best techniques may seem very
difficult to operate but actually they are
not. They can be applied in very simple
and efficient manner.
Adapt best techniques to compete with
competitors and innovate them to get an
extra edge.
