2.Are you familiar to these
words? In what sport do
these words are commonly
used?
FACT OR BLUFF
START!
HOW TO PLAY
There will be a statement. And after reading
the statement, you have 5 seconds to decide if
the statement is FACT (true) or BLUFF (false).
Take note of your answer as we incorporate
discussion and game.
ARE YOU
READY?
In 17th Century, Badminton is
believed to have originated from
the game “poona”
FACT BLUFF
It was only in 1992 Barcelona
Olympics when the game became an
Olympic sport.
FACT BLUFF
The game Badminton was known as
“battledore and shuttlecock” in
British India.
FACT BLUFF
• In 17th Century, Badminton is believed to have originated from
the game “poona” that was played by English Army officers
stationed in a small town in India.
• At this point, Badminton was just a game played for fun. It was
known as “battledore and shuttlecock” in British India instead of
Badminton.
• Battledore and shuttlecock was then brought back to England
in 1870 when the Duke of Beaufort held a lawn party in his
country place. Interestingly, the house was called Badminton
and was then introduced to the upper class community.
• It was only in 1992 Barcelona Olympics when the game
became an Olympic sports.
The aim of the game is to score
points by landing the shuttlecock
in the opponent’s court.
FACT BLUFF
The game was brought to England in
1970
FACT BLUFF
Matches for badminton are played
by team.
FACT BLUFF
The game is governed by the
Badminton World Foundation.
FACT BLUFF
• The aim of the game is to score points by landing the
shuttlecock in the opponent’s court.
• Matches for badminton include singles, doubles, and
mixed doubles.
• The court used for singles and doubles vary in terms of
length and width; the singles court slightly narrower but
longer than the doubles court.
• The game is governed by the Badminton World
Federation (BWF).
The height of the net is 1.55
meter from the ground.
FACT BLUFF

Shuttlecock Racket
Forehand is also known as
handshake grip.
FACT BLUFF
Backhand is used to hit the
shuttle at the non-dominant side
of the body.
FACT BLUFF
Forehand is also known as handshake
grip. The thumb and pointing fingers
wrapped around the handle forming a
letter V while the rest of the fingers are
spread, supporting the bottom part of the
handle.
The grip is used to hit the shuttle at
the dominant side of the body and
sometimes at the non-dominant (non-
leading) side overhead.
FOREHAND GRIP
Backhand is used to hit the shuttle at the
non-dominant side of the body. From the
forehand grip position, the fingers are
moved slightly to place the thumb
pressing flat on the flat side of the handle
while the rest of the fingers are positioned
together.
The grip adds power to the strokes
or hits since usually the non- dominant
side of a player is the weaker hitting side.
