Activity 2: Guess the Maze!

box. Study the picture and re-arrange the letters to form a word to
reveal the name of the picture. This will unlock your knowledge to
give you an insight about the lesson. Write your answers in your
activity notebook.
5. Is an exemplary game of skill requiring
remarkable hand eye coordination by the players.
It was first called PING PONG, it is a sport in
which two or four players hit a lightweight ball
back and forth across a table using a small,
round bat.
Ping pong became the game’s registered name
during 1901 until it was altered to Table Tennis

British officers in India and South Africa
during the 1800s.
Is an exemplary game of skill requiring
remarkable hand eye coordination by the
players.
It requires high degree of perseverance and
concentration to position the ball at the
required place in the opponent’s side of the
table.
7. In 1935, The U.S Table Tennis Association was
formed which was later renamed as U.S.A Table
Tennis (year 1994).
The first table tennis world championship
tournament was played in London during the year
1927.
Olympic Table Tennis was first played in 1988
(with both men and women singles and double
matches)
Table tennis is governed by the International
Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
8. Every player needs a healthy stock of table tennis
balls to ensure that they are always ready to play.
Table tennis balls weigh 2.7 grams and are white or
orange in color, depending on the preference of the
player.
9. This is the most important piece of
equipment for table tennis. Table
tennis paddles, rackets, or bats are
all names for the complete piece
instrument you hold that strikes the
ball. This consists of a wooden part
known as the blade, and rubbers that
are glued to either side of the blade’s
face.
10. Included in the list of important table
tennis equipment is the table. The ITTF
specifies that the official table tennis
tables used in tournament settings must be
9 ft long, 5 ft wide, and 30 inches above
the ground. They come in either green,
blue, or black and are made from hardboard.
The surface must be smooth to provide the
lowest friction possible.
11. The NET is another part of the table that
stretches across the width of the table and
extends 6 inches over each side with posts at
either end. The net is made of stretchy nylon
material and measure 6 inches from the top of
the net down to the table.
Table Tennis Posts are usually attached to the
table by an extendable clip or a washer and
bolt that can be adjusted.
12. It is done by placing the
thumb and pointing the
finger on opposite sides of
the blade, at the top of the
handle. The rest of the
fingers are wrapped around
the handle.
A. Forehand Grip
13. It is done by placing the
thumb and pointing the
finger on the blade. The
middle finger rests on the
opposite side together with
the rest of the fingers.
B. Backhand Grip
14. The penhold grip is so-named
because one grips the racket
similarly to the way one
holds a writing instrument.
c. Penhold Grip
15. A forehand shot is
essentially hitting the ball
with your hand’s most natural
position. For instance, a
right-hander would hit the
ball from the right side of
his body, while a left-hander
would hit from the left side.
a. Forehand Drive
VIDEO
16. A backhand shot involves
turning your arm slightly
across your body to hit the
ball.
b. Backhand Drive
VIDEO
17. The forehand push is one of the four
basic table tennis strokes.
The forehand push is a defensive
stroke played with a small amount of
backspin.
The forehand push is usually played
against short and low, backspin or
float balls, although beginners that
have not developed a loop (or open up
shot) can play a push off a longer
ball.
c. Forehand Push VIDEO
18. The backhand push is a defensive stroke
played with a small amount of backspin.
The backhand push is usually played
against short and low, backspin or
float balls, although beginners that
have not developed a loop (or open up
shot) can play a push off a longer
ball. At the intermediate stage any
long balls should be attacked and any
balls that are short but high should be
flicked or hit.
d. Backhand Push
VIDEO
19. It is used against an
attacking topspin. As your
opponents shot will be fast,
you won’t need to make the
pace yourself. You will need
to vary the angle of your
racket depending on the
amount of topspin on the
ball.
e. Forehand Block
VIDEO
20. It is used against an
attacking topspin. As your
opponents shot will be fast,
you won’t need to make the
pace yourself and so the
stroke can be quite short.
You will need to vary the
angle of your racket
depending on the amount of
topspin on the ball.
f. Backhand Block
VIDEO
21. Is one of the most fun
strokes to play. And once
you learn how to impart a
strong topspin on the ball,
it will become a very
consistent stroke.
g. Forehand TopSpin
VIDEO
22. It should be learnt at the same
time as the forehand topspin. It
is a great attacking stroke that
can really improve your game.
By being able to play such an
aggressive shot from your
backhand side, your opponent
will find it difficult to stop
you gaining the initiative.
h. Backhand TopSpin
VIDEO
23. It is used as an attacking stroke
to try and win the point. The most
common mistake we see players make
with the forehands smash, is
failing to get themselves into
position.
The key to the smash is to get your
feet moving early and get into a
good position.
i. Forehand Smash
VIDEO
24. It is a stroke that
starts a rally which can
be done either in the
forehand or backhand
side.
a. SERVE
VIDEO
25. It is a stroke to
respond to a serve.
b. RECEIVE
VIDEO
26. This is the most common
footwork in table tennis. It
is done when you are in a
ready position and going to
hit the ball sideways with a
bit of a jump or sidestep
either left and right side in
forehand or backhand stroke.
a. Basic Sideways
27. This footwork is usually used
to return the ball to the
opponent in short service and
short return. In doing this
return, move your body forward
by stepping your one foot
closer to the table and hit the
ball. After hitting the ball,
return to your ready position.
b. IN and OUT
28. This footwork is used to return
the ball faster when it is
coming out too wide from your
forehand stroke. It is a
running motion that is usually
done by cross over wide left
leg to the right side to hit
the ball in a forehand stroke
at a fast pace (right-handed
player).
c. CROSS OVER
VIDEO
29. Official table tennis games are played for 11 points. The
team or player to score 11 points first is declared as
the winner. In case there is a tie for 10 points between
the two teams/players then the side to first score a lead
of 2 points will be declared as winner.
For every game the players after the starting ends. Each
side serves for 2 points then the serve switches to the
other side. After each tennis game the players are
allowed a brief interval for about 1 minute and after
every 6 points scored the players are permitted a
fleeting break for towelling.
30. Allowing ball to bounce on your side more than one time
Failing to hit the ball after it bounces on your side.
If the ball bounces on your side of the table after
you have hit it.
If the ball does not bounce on the opponent’s side
after you hit (unless if the opponent hits the ball
before it bounces on his side)
Hitting the ball in mid-air prior to the ball hitting
your side of the table.
