Western blue-eyed grass is a clumping perennial wildflower native to coastal California. It has grass-like leaves and lily-like purple and yellow flowers on stems above the foliage from February to summer. It spreads by creeping rhizomes and is easy to grow in partial shade to full sun in many garden situations, including rock gardens, meadows, and borders. It requires well-drained soil and benefits from summer dormancy or light irrigation. Western blue-eyed grass attracts bees and provides seeds for birds.
