My goal is to provide specialized, high-leveled care to patients with different backgrounds. An opinion leader is someone who has strong influence within a work place, giving of their time and experience, and creates strategies to help change an initiative. An opinion leader earns their role after much experience and expertise. Others look to them for advice and new information (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, & O’Grady, 2014). When problems arise in a work environment, employees will look towards opinion leaders and others who will lead them through the stressors and crises. In order to be successful as an opinion leader, staff must be committed to serving the organization and devote time for teaching. Patient and staff safety should always be at the forefront. Not one person knows all the answers, but once we live through various experiences our abilities and competence improve and widen (Kai Tiaki, 2014). Communication skills can improve opinion leaders abilities. It is important that communication allows everyone’s voice to be heard, in an open, non-combative manner. In order for piers and other staff to have a positive trusting relationship with the opinion leader, they must feel as though they are being heard and also guided in difficult situations (Pollard & Wild, 2014). By the end of the summer, I am hoping my schedule allows me to become a preceptor for new graduates. I view that role as being an opinion leader for an individual, which would progress to a small group. I would love the opportunity to mold new fellows with everything I have learned so far as a postpartum nurse. When a newer nurse comes to me for advice, I want them to feel safe. My goal is never to talk down to someone making him or her feel inadequate for coming to me for help in the first place. If I do not know how to solve the issue I have been made aware of, I seek guidance from another senior nurse. As APN’s become recognized or their accurate clinical decision making they become opinion leaders. They are sought out by others and when the APN speaks, others listen (harmic 2014). A common myth is that leaders are born and not made (harmic 2014). According to Trent (2003) has asserted that this is not true and that individuals can learn to lead by understanding and using “power resources” as described by Roost (1993). Power resources include many of the attributes such as education, experience, expert communication, networking, assertiveness, and collaboration and are clearly demonstrated in the studies of leadership.
It has been 6 years since I have completed my BSN degree and I thought I would never go back to school. I was hoping this will give me the opportunity I have wanted as a Manager of a department or a Director. I have been in roles as a supervisor or case manager in home care. I have realized my career has not grown any further than a regular RN. With the many job rejection, I have this have motivated me to take my career up to another level. Throughout the years I have had some good leaders that I work with and some that didn’t have good leadership roles. There have been times I wish I could have stepped in and given my opinion so that others could follow my lead and make changes to patient care.
I am glad that I am able to advantage of this opportunity to further my nursing career to widen my job opportunity and be more autonomy. I do see myself as an opinion leader in my position as home/hospice nurse because I am able to make a decision for families and patients. I enjoy learning different things and using my knowledge to share with others.

Leadership is all about influencing and motivating people to move in a specific direction or achieving a common goal. Advocacy plays a fundamental role in leadership. It simply involves any activity that influences an individual’s or group decisions, views and actions. As a leader I would apply problem solving skills which involve identifying issues that need solutions and proceed to look for an action plan to resolve them. I would be competent and trustworthy so as to greatly impact the decisions of those that I work with. Last but not least, open and adequate communication since advocacy involves voicing out others views and expectations (Hofmeyer, 2020).Communication should be consistent and the messages clear and precise to achieve the intended purpose.
In my fourth year of study in nursing, I was privileged to lead a group of six students in our clinical training. I was excited at first and I kept on reminding the rest not to be late for any training. I also ensured that I passed on information from our nursing instructors exactly as it is to prevent confusion and chaos. There are various challenges that arose such as inadequate readiness and knowledge, deficient practical skills and members felt that they are not being treated well. I was afraid of being outspoken and voicing out our challenges to the nurse instructors, eventually I was not able to handle the pressure and gave up the leadership role. If given the chance again, I would focus more on the needs of my group members and present their challenges without fear to the instructing team.

In being asked what is the one problem that I am being faced with is getting my spouse to communicate. In the past I, didn't know how to communicate as I was always taught that my opinion doesn't matter. I am from two cultures Iranian and Indian where females are taught to speak when spoken to and that the husband or male figures in the house who opinion matter.

After completing the assessment, my Signature Theme Report produced the following results: Communication, Relator, Individualization, Consistency, and Strategic. When I first saw the themes presented, I was a little skeptical at first but after reading the detailed descriptions I felt like it made a lot of sense and mirrored a lot of what I had already thought about myself.
A core value that I would like to continue to strengthen would be the value of acceptance. One of my top five themes was relator which explained that I have a comfortability with gravitating towards people I already know and building relationships from there. I don’t have issues with making new relationships, but I can see that sometimes I close myself off initially to embracing new ones. With acceptance, you have to understand that there are some situations you can control and some that you can’t but embracing the latter can lead to new experiences that could be beneficial (Riley, 2021). Another core value that I would like to improve upon would be calmness. This fits in well with my theme of consistency. While I am a firm believer of things being fair and consistent, I can get easily upset when things don’t balance out like they are expected to. I know that working on being calm in tense situations will help me adapt easier when things don’t always work out as they should.
One of the strengths that I would like to embrace fully and continue to improve upon is communication. It was no surprise to me that communication was at the top of my list for my themes. When I am in a position of leadership at work, I make it a priority to keep my staff updated on everything that is going on for that night and it is something I expect from my charge nurse when I am working the floor also. A communicator is only effective when they are aware of their style of communicating and how others perceive or respond to it (Marshall & Broome, 2021). As a communicator I know that I can always work on how I communicate non-verbally and with body language especially. The other strength that I would like to continue to work on is of being strategic. The report explained that the strategic theme fit me because I am able to sort through the clutter and find the best route when I am trying to accomplish something. I really believe this about myself because when I have a task I need to accomplish, whether I am in a leader position or not, I will break everything down and reorganize it to make sure I have come up with the best solution. I feel like the best way to do something is the way that makes it concise and without a lot of excess getting in the way.
A characteristic of mine that I would like to strengthen would be that of instinct. My theme of individualization points out that I have an instinct about others and how they work and function. Personal Leadership Philosophy
When we think of leaders in the healthcare industry, we often focus on the famous policy-makers that have come before us. We may not realize how truly significant our own personal leadership can be to those around us. Every person has the ability to be a leader regardless of the job title that we may hold. Laureate Education (2018) shared that leaders are not defined by position or title, rather they’re characterized by their ability to craft a compelling vision while inspiring others to follow. To enhance our leadership skills, it is important to frequently acknowledge our leadership strengths and weaknesses. Laureate Education (2014) explained that it is important to understand what your skills, talents, and competencies are in order to see how they could best be served in the organization. To be a successful leader, we should frequently analyze our approach and develop a plan for continued improvement. CliftonStrengths Assessment
Positivity, includer, achiever, relator, and futuristic themes were identified in my CliftonStrengths profile. Strengths Finder (2018) explained that by focusing on your Signature Themes, separately and in combination, you can identify your talents, build them into strengths, and enjoy personal and career success. Completing this assessment allowed me to gain an understanding of my values, strengths, and areas that I wish to improve upon. I found that my positive outlook and approach to situations allows me to include and relate to those around me as I drive my team towards the achievement of our goals. Learning about the significance that my leadership style can hold for my team was an eye-opening experience that will promote internal growth and exploration. Core Values
The core values that were recognized in my report encompassed the includer and relator themes. Strengths Finder (2018) articulated that an includer is an instinctively accepting person who does not pass judgment, wants to expand groups, and wishes to include people so they feel they belong. As an includer, I feel that everyone is equally important, no one should be ignored, and everyone should be included. I have felt this deeply since I was a child, and this is the driving force behind my desire to care for others. This closely relates to the relator theme which supports my attitude considering relationship development. To truly care for my patients, I begin by cultivating a therapeutic relationship that promotes trust. Discussion: Team Dynamics
As healthcare providers, we should aim to provide safe and quality care to patients while working with other members of the interdisciplinary team. However, teamwork is not always easy. I would like to explicate some of the characteristics of the interdisciplinary team that can prove to be beneficial to teamwork, as well as those that can hinder the teamwork process.
I feel the most important aspect of teamwork is proper communication. Without communication, information cannot be conveyed to other members of the team. According to Lavoie-Tremblay et al. (2014) “team building requires considerable attention to interpersonal and communication skills” (p. 23). Members of the team must also share respect for one another and act in a professional manner through team interactions. Also, I think it is important for each team member to know the role they play within the team. In a study where a Learning Collaborative Program was initiated to help providers learn how to work in a team, they discovered the “teams needed opportunities to first learn about each other’s scope of practice and skill sets, develop a common language for communication, and understand how their scope of practice can be leveraged to improve team functioning and patient care” (Kotecha et al., 2015, p. 228).
There is always another side to every story. There are some conditions that make teamwork in healthcare very difficult. Teamwork can be even more complicated when healthcare providers must make ethical decisions. The members of the interdisciplinary team have different personalities and perspectives that can affect teamwork. Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, and O’Grady (2014) postulate that “these differing positions can lead to creative and collaborative decision making or to a breakdown in communication and lack of problem solving” (p. 329). Other aspects identified by Lavoie-Tremblay et al. (2014) that can impact teamwork are psychological demands (of the job), social support (from colleagues and superiors), effort-reward balance, and healthcare providers’ experience with patients (p. 19). These aspects can impact teamwork in a positive or negative way.

working with other people, we need to be aware that our behavior is exemplary of
our values.

intelligence in health care organizations.
BRENDA FRESHMAN: When you're aware of your emotional intelligence skill
sets, you can begin to make choices to enhance relationships rather than destroy
them.
CECILIA K. WOODEN: Values are very important in a couple ways. Number one,
they not only guide your behavior, but as a leader or in the workplace, they are
also going to contribute or detract from your success or the success of the
people that you work with. So continually being aware of what your values are is
an important part about being a good leader.
And I would submit that an individual who is happy at work, who feels fulfilled at
work, is an individual whose personal values match the values of the

And an example of this might be, I went into nursing because of a deep need to
care for people. The more time I can just spend talking with a patient, standing by
the bedside, the more familiar the patient is with me. And the more we develop
an understanding of each other, the more confident she's going to be in the care
she or he is getting, and the outcomes are going to be much better.
However, in our organization because we are so short staffed, and the
organization does not want to close beds down, does not want to close a unit
down, I'm having to work double shifts. I can't spend enough bedside time with
my patients because of the technology requirements that I'm struggling with
trying to learn. I'm only spending 28% of my nursing day in contact with a patient.
That will cause a great disconcert with me and a great disconnect.

In a leadership role, he or she must use creative ways to accommodate diversity so that everyone feels that they are an important part of the team. The idea of "one shoe fits all" is just not very creditable in every situation or country.
My parents are from Iran and Indian which already is a diversity that one should get used to especially since out of 5 children I am the only one born in the United States. It is true that we think different and it is very hard to conform but when push comes to shove we have and bring front to our mind that "one shoe doesn't fit for all even if they are from the same place we are as being in America one learns to conform and hold his or her country dear to their heart.
In being ask to analysis of the barriers that prevented the group from leveraging their differences and creating innovative idea I would have to say no one was willing to consider the others opinion everyone wanted to be a back-seat driver always have something to say but only seeing it from a different angel. For this process to improve everyone needed to really listen to one another, weight out the pros and cons, agree to disagree and come up with a plan that works best for the company.

With that in mind I would first remind my staff that I am as affective as my counterparts, and suggest a team meeting to go over the upcoming project and at this team meeting I would suggest everyone bring in a dish that represents his or her ethnic background and we will have lunch as we discuss the task that is at hand. My values identified from this assessment were as follows: love, fairness, kindness, hope, gratitude, honesty, teamwork, leadership, forgiveness, perseverance, humility, perspective, zest, prudence, creativity, judgement, bravery, curiosity, self-regulation, social intelligence, humor, appreciation of beauty & excellence, love of learning, spirituality. I was surprised and overwhelmed with joy to see love as my number one value. Though I have a ton of love to give, I feel that I have a hard time express my love for others. Knowing that this assessment identified love as a significant strength gives me great strength that even though I don’t recognize my outward display of love, it is received by others. I was also surprised to see love of learning so low on the list. I love to learn new things, I’m just not one to pick up a book and read I would rather learn new things using the hands-on method. It is possible that my inability to identify my out-ward displays of love have clouded my perception on thought of a love to learn. I would have thought that leadership and social intelligence would have been higher on the list. I love to lead and mentor the new airman coming into the military. I’m not surprised at all by spiritual and humor being so low on my list. I’m not very good with making jokes, most people only laugh at me when I am trying to be serious. I am not a religious person therefore spiritual feel right where it should have. After taking this self-examination I will need to learn how to use my strength better rather than using my weaknesses. This test was very eye opening for me and will allow me to become a better leader along the way.
I scored fairly high on all sections of the emotional intelligence self-assessment in chapter 3 of Sterret (2006). I scored a 20 on self-awareness, 22 on self-confidence, 19 on self-control, 19 on empathy, 21 on motivation, and 21 on social competency. The results seem to be in line with what I would have expected. I have been the enlisted leader of a section for the last 6 years and have learned if the person working for you, believes you care about them they tend to work much harder to support your efforts. On the leadership assessment I scored mostly 5 or 4 with a couple 3. I completed one assessment and sent three assessments to airmen that previously worked and currently work for me, all the results were relatively comparable. The fellow airmen were initially not able to identify the links between their strengths and weakness’, as I would hope. I think I scored myself lower than the troops scored me, because I tend to have higher expectations for myself than others. It was nice to see how people that have worked for you grade you when it comes to your leadership. It gives me inspiration that I am actually doing a good job leading the personnel under me.

I find that I am an honest and caring leader who values efficiency. I can project trust to my superiors and my subordinates, I have the gift of project confidence to others, and after I realized this quality in myself I have been trying to master this gift.
I don’t think I had a mentor in my life that influenced the leader I become. The closest was a German Physician with the worst rigid character I’ve ever seen but the nicest person after work, I notice than in general the people who work with him, dislike his behavior but at the same time value his company after work. I notice that his great character for issues beside work, were more valuable for people than working with him, and his temper was tolerable for that.
I had learned more reading about great leaders from history than from mentors. The history of civilization goes around politics and diplomacy and the great business leaders of history as Alexander the great, Napoleon, Lincoln, Roosevelt, JP Morgan, Rockefeller, Tesla, Ford, Steve Jobs and the list may go on. All this great men has influenced my life more than any other human alive.

I have learned more from co-workers and their interactions with subordinates, than from my former bosses. Every one of them has positive management points, but in general I can’t think of any who left such a positive impression that change my style. For the other part I had a great boss, excellent human been who micromanagement everything, the lesson I learned from him was not to do it ever to the people who work for me. I learned how micromanagement neutralizes employee’s intellectual growth; affect the person’s overall emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. Additional to this put more pressure to the leader who overworks for issues that should be delegated.
At the time I was attending for Emergency medicine, I learn from a colleague how, to project calm under pressure make your team confident, efficient, and respectful. I learned from another colleague, how to be human and caring without be taking as a soft boss, in fact he amazed me how been very pleasant at the same time was very strict for work matters.
My managerial style is reflected in how my staff respect me as a boss, they appreciate that I fully support them. I am invited to more meetings that I should be because people enjoy my comments and suggestions, in general people that work with me, appreciate me. Think about a great manager who's really motivated you in the past. What comes to mind? Many people describe such managers as fair, respectful, encouraging, objective, clear, and good listeners. Managing a diverse team requires a commitment to demonstrate these kinds of behaviors with everyone on the team.
The more you can really connect with each of your team members, the more you'll be able to create a highly productive environment. Once you've established your initial approach to managing diversity by building diversity awareness in yourself and your team, you need to use different techniques to maintain the approach. The techniques for managing a diverse team are to communicate inclusively, consider individual needs, delegate fairly, and evaluate objectively.
Communicating inclusively
The first technique, communicating inclusively, means being careful that your language doesn't make anyone feel marginalized. All team members should feel comfortable and know their contributions matter. And listening is one of the most important communication skills. Listen actively to what team members have to say to be sure you understand what they're trying to communicate. You also have to be clear when you communicate. Especially in diverse environments, you need to check to make sure all team members understand you.
In addition to listening well and being clear, to communicate inclusively you can use two specific techniques:
1. be open – share all appropriate information, recognize and accept differences, change, and new ways of doing things, and respond honestly
2. use inclusive language – call people by their preferred names, avoid stereotypes, and avoid using metaphors that may exclude someone
Do you know the background of each of your team members? Demonstrating an open and flexible mind is easier when you know who you're communicating with. Remember that communication is a two-way process, and every team member has had experiences that have shaped their views, opinions, and biases. You also have opinions and biases. So you'll need to adjust your language in a way that helps all your employees feel like part of the communication process, especially when they come from backgrounds different from your own.
Because language is powerful, you need to be careful you don't use language that makes others feel excluded. Inclusive language is nonsexist and nonracist. Some people think using "politically correct" phrasing is a trivial matter, but words can shape people's realities. Not many little girls grow up wanting to be a "chairman." But children of either gender can see themselves as a "chairperson."

When we think of leaders in the healthcare industry, we often focus on the famous policy-makers that have come before us. We may not realize how truly significant our own personal leadership can be to those around us. Every person has the ability to be a leader regardless of the job title that we may hold. Laureate Education (2018) shared that leaders are not defined by position or title, rather they’re characterized by their ability to craft a compelling vision while inspiring others to follow. To enhance our leadership skills, it is important to frequently acknowledge our leadership strengths and weaknesses. Laureate Education (2014) explained that it is important to understand what your skills, talents, and competencies are in order to see how they could best be served in the organization. To be a successful leader, we should frequently analyze our approach and develop a plan for continued improvement. CliftonStrengths Assessment
Positivity, includer, achiever, relator, and futuristic themes were identified in my CliftonStrengths profile. Strengths Finder (2018) explained that by focusing on your Signature Themes, separately and in combination, you can identify your talents, build them into strengths, and enjoy personal and career success. Completing this assessment allowed me to gain an understanding of my values, strengths, and areas that I wish to improve upon. As healthcare providers, we should aim to provide safe and quality care to patients while working with other members of the interdisciplinary team. However, teamwork is not always easy. I would like to explicate some of the characteristics of the interdisciplinary team that can prove to be beneficial to teamwork, as well as those that can hinder the teamwork process.
I feel the most important aspect of teamwork is proper communication. Without communication, information cannot be conveyed to other members of the team. According to Lavoie-Tremblay et al. (2014) “team building requires considerable attention to interpersonal and communication skills” (p. 23). Members of the team must also share respect for one another and act in a professional manner through team interactions. Also, I think it is important for each team member to know the role they play within the team. In a study where a Learning Collaborative Program was initiated to help providers learn how to work in a team, they discovered the “teams needed opportunities to first learn about each other’s scope of practice and skill sets, develop a common language for communication, and understand how their scope of practice can be leveraged to improve team functioning and patient care” (Kotecha et al., 2015, p. 228).
There is always another side to every story. There are some conditions that make teamwork in healthcare very difficult. Teamwork can be even more complicated when healthcare providers must make ethical decisions. The members of the interdisciplinary team have different personalities and perspectives that can affect teamwork. Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, and O’Grady (2014) postulate that “these differing positions can lead to creative and collaborative decision making or to a breakdown in communication and lack of problem solving” (p. 329). Other aspects identified by Lavoie-Tremblay et al. (2014) that can impact teamwork are psychological demands (of the job), social support (from colleagues and superiors), effort-reward balance, and healthcare providers’ experience with patients (p. 19). These aspects can impact teamwork in a positive or negative way.

an important part about being a good leader.
And I would submit that an individual who is happy at work, who feels fulfilled at
work, is an individual whose personal values match the values of the
organization. Let's imagine that you're confident and comfortable in knowing what
your own values are, and yet you find in your workplace that there's a disconnect,
or there's a gap between the values that you hold near and dear and the values
that either organization holds near and dear or manifests.
And an example of this might be, I went into nursing because of a deep need to
care for people. The more time I can just spend talking with a patient, standing by
the bedside, the more familiar the patient is with me. And the more we develop
an understanding of each other, the more confident she's going to be in the care
she or he is getting, and the outcomes are going to be much better.
However, in our organization because we are so short staffed, and the
organization does not want to close beds down, does not want to close a unit
down, I'm having to work double shifts. I can't spend enough bedside time with
my patients because of the technology requirements that I'm struggling with
trying to learn. I'm only spending 28% of my nursing day in contact with a patient.
That will cause a great disconcert with me and a great disconnect.

In a leadership role, he or she must use creative ways to accommodate diversity so that everyone feels that they are an important part of the team. The idea of "one shoe fits all" is just not very creditable in every situation or country.
My parents are from Iran and Indian which already is a diversity that one should get used to especially since out of 5 children I am the only one born in the United States. It is true that we think different and it is very hard to conform but when push comes to shove we have and bring front to our mind that "one shoe doesn't fit for all even if they are from the same place we are as being in America one learns to conform and hold his or her country dear to their heart.
In being ask to analysis of the barriers that prevented the group from leveraging their differences and creating innovative idea I would have to say no one was willing to consider the others opinion everyone wanted to be a back-seat driver always have something to say but only seeing it from a different angel. For this process to improve everyone needed to really listen to one another, weight out the pros and cons, agree to disagree and come up with a plan that works best for the company.
The article title Psychological diversity: Leading people with different styles within that article West (1997) argued that, “The more diverse the workforce, the more likely it is that an organization will be innovative, just simply because of the variety of alternative perspectives that are brought to bear” (p. 95). With that in mind I would first remind my staff that I am as affective as my counterparts, and suggest a team meeting to go over the upcoming project and at this team meeting I would suggest everyone bring in a dish that represents his or her ethnic background and we will have lunch as we discuss the task that is at hand. In doing this type of meeting it gives team members the opportunity to step into their colleague world even if it just for a moment and open discussion that will give one another a better insight to who they are and maybe then the diversity that once kept us a part is the one thing that will pull us together as a team as we are open to really listen when place in a different setting.

I was surprised and overwhelmed with joy to see love as my number one value. Though I have a ton of love to give, I feel that I have a hard time express my love for others. Knowing that this assessment identified love as a significant strength gives me great strength that even though I don’t recognize my outward display of love, it is received by others. I was also surprised to see love of learning so low on the list. I love to learn new things, I’m just not one to pick up a book and read I would rather learn new things using the hands-on method. It is possible that my inability to identify my out-ward displays of love have clouded my perception on thought of a love to learn. I would have thought that leadership and social intelligence would have been higher on the list. I love to lead and mentor the new airman coming into the military. I’m not surprised at all by spiritual and humor being so low on my list. I’m not very good with making jokes, most people only laugh at me when I am trying to be serious. I am not a religious person therefore spiritual feel right where it should have. After taking this self-examination I will need to learn how to use my strength better rather than using my weaknesses. This test was very eye opening for me and will allow me to become a better leader along the way.
I scored fairly high on all sections of the emotional intelligence self-assessment in chapter 3 of Sterret (2006). I scored a 20 on self-awareness, 22 on self-confidence, 19 on self-control, 19 on empathy, 21 on motivation, and 21 on social competency. The results seem to be in line with what I would have expected. I have been the enlisted leader of a section for the last 6 years and have learned if the person working for you, believes you care about them they tend to work much harder to support your efforts. On the leadership assessment I scored mostly 5 or 4 with a couple 3. I completed one assessment and sent three assessments to airmen that previously worked and currently work for me, all the results were relatively comparable. The fellow airmen were initially not able to identify the links between their strengths and weakness’, as I would hope. I think I scored myself lower than the troops scored me, because I tend to have higher expectations for myself than others. It was nice to see how people that have worked for you grade you when it comes to your leadership. It gives me inspiration that I am actually doing a good job leading the personnel under me.

I find that I am an honest and caring leader who values efficiency. I can project trust to my superiors and my subordinates, I have the gift of project confidence to others, and after I realized this quality in myself I have been trying to master this gift.
I don’t think I had a mentor in my life that influenced the leader I become. The closest was a German Physician with the worst rigid character I’ve ever seen but the nicest person after work, I notice than in general the people who work with him, dislike his behavior but at the same time value his company after work. I notice that his great character for issues beside work, were more valuable for people than working with him, and his temper was tolerable for that.
I had learned more reading about great leaders from history than from mentors. The history of civilization goes around politics and diplomacy and the great business leaders of history as Alexander the great, Napoleon, Lincoln, Roosevelt, JP Morgan, Rockefeller, Tesla, Ford, Steve Jobs and the list may go on. All this great men has influenced my life more than any other human alive.

I have learned more from co-workers and their interactions with subordinates, than from my former bosses. Every one of them has positive management points, but in general I can’t think of any who left such a positive impression that change my style. For the other part I had a great boss, excellent human been who micromanagement everything, the lesson I learned from him was not to do it ever to the people who work for me. I learned how micromanagement neutralizes employee’s intellectual growth; affect the person’s overall emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. Additional to this put more pressure to the leader who overworks for issues that should be delegated.
At the time I was attending for Emergency medicine, I learn from a colleague how, to project calm under pressure make your team confident, efficient, and respectful. I learned from another colleague, how to be human and caring without be taking as a soft boss, in fact he amazed me how been very pleasant at the same time was very strict for work matters.
My managerial style is reflected in how my staff respect me as a boss, they appreciate that I fully support them. I am invited to more meetings that I should be because people enjoy my comments and suggestions, in general people that work with me, appreciate me. Think about a great manager who's really motivated you in the past. What comes to mind? Many people describe such managers as fair, respectful, encouraging, objective, clear, and good listeners. The key in a diverse work environment is to be this way with everyone, and not only with the employees you feel comfortable with. Managing a diverse team requires a commitment to demonstrate these kinds of behaviors with everyone on the team.
The more you can really connect with each of your team members, the more you'll be able to create a highly productive environment. Once you've established your initial approach to managing diversity by building diversity awareness in yourself and your team, you need to use different techniques to maintain the approach. The techniques for managing a diverse team are to communicate inclusively, consider individual needs, delegate fairly, and evaluate objectively.
Communicating inclusively
The first technique, communicating inclusively, means being careful that your language doesn't make anyone feel marginalized. All team members should feel comfortable and know their contributions matter. And listening is one of the most important communication skills. Listen actively to what team members have to say to be sure you understand what they're trying to communicate. You also have to be clear when you communicate. Especially in diverse environments, you need to check to make sure all team members understand you.
In addition to listening well and being clear, to communicate inclusively you can use two specific techniques:
1. be open – share all appropriate information, recognize and accept differences, change, and new ways of doing things, and respond honestly
2. use inclusive language – call people by their preferred names, avoid stereotypes, and avoid using metaphors that may exclude someone
Do you know the background of each of your team members? Demonstrating an open and flexible mind is easier when you know who you're communicating with. Remember that communication is a two-way process, and every team member has had experiences that have shaped their views, opinions, and biases. You also have opinions and biases. So you'll need to adjust your language in a way that helps all your employees feel like part of the communication process, especially when they come from backgrounds different from your own.
Because language is powerful, you need to be careful you don't use language that makes others feel excluded. Inclusive language is nonsexist and nonracist. Some people think using "politically correct" phrasing is a trivial matter, but words can shape people's realities. Not many little girls grow up wanting to be a "chairman." But children of either gender can see themselves as a "chairperson."
You can use more inclusive language in several different areas:

One of the theorists that speaks to my nursing practice is Madeleine Leininger’s Theory of Culture Care Diversity and Universality otherwise known as transcultural nursing. The theory of transcultural nursing promotes understanding of both the universally held and common understandings of care among humans and the culture-specific caring beliefs and behaviors that define any particular caring context of interaction (Butts & Rich, 2018, p. 572). Culture is the specific pattern of behavior that distinguishes any society from others and gives meaning to human expressions of care (McFarland & Wehbe-Alamah, 2015). This theory is intended to view the patient as a whole being. As an APN, this theory will allow me to be considerate of my patient’s needs. In turn, they will feel respected and listened to and hopefully this will promote a long-lasting relationship.
Leininger discovered that inadequate knowledge of cultural factors represented a missing link in her ability to provide care (Nelson, 2006). As a future APN, I recognize the need and sometimes missing component of culture care nursing in our women’s health practice today. For example, in South Dakota we have a lot of Native American reservations. Since we see a number of Native American women, I think it would be beneficial for me to better understand their culture and beliefs related to healthcare in order to offer these women expert care.
Also, with Leininger’s transcultural nursing theory she believes seeing the patient as a whole and to appreciate that the patient represents a complex constellation of physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, social, environmental, and economic factors that interact and contribute to the patient’s unique wholeness and influence their ability to participate in health promotion, health maintenance, and disease modifying activities (McFarland & Eipperle, 2008). As an APN, by viewing the patient as a whole and recognizing their diversities, I will provide better patient care in which caring will be the main focus and recognizing that their different beliefs and cultures play a part in their decision making to the different treatment options.

Normally, this wouldn't have resulted in much more than a few really irritated travelers, but in this case, JetBlue decided to keep its nearly 1,000 passengers trapped in the runway-bound planes for the entire time.
According to CBS News, passengers described the experience as "horrific". As snacks depleted and the bathroom situation grew unpleasant, people on the planes grew more and more upset that they were not being allowed to de-plane and walk to the terminal, which was within sight. They were only permitted to leave the aircraft when official airport vehicles arrived to transport them to the terminal.
JetBlue at first defended it's decision, arguing that its passengers' safety in the ice storm was top priority but the incident sparked government debate about passengers' rights. According to Consumer Affairs, a week later, JetBlue announced its own "Passengers' Bill of Rights", which detailed different levels of compensation for varying types of delays, as well as a promise to de-plane passengers after five hours' delay in the future.

Adjust automatic marking as read setting I chose to further my education in hopes of providing better patient care and education. I want to be seen as an influence and a primary healthcare provider. My goal is to provide specialized, high-leveled care to patients with different backgrounds. An opinion leader is someone who has strong influence within a work place, giving of their time and experience, and creates strategies to help change an initiative. An opinion leader earns their role after much experience and expertise. Others look to them for advice and new information (Hamric, Hanson, Tracy, & O’Grady, 2014). When problems arise in a work environment, employees will look towards opinion leaders and others who will lead them through the stressors and crises. In order to be successful as an opinion leader, staff must be committed to serving the organization and devote time for teaching. Patient and staff safety should always be at the forefront. Not one person knows all the answers, but once we live through various experiences our abilities and competence improve and widen (Kai Tiaki, 2014).
- 2. Communication skills can improve opinion leaders abilities. It is important that communication allows everyone’s voice to be heard, in an open, non-combative manner. In order for piers and other staff to have a positive trusting relationship with the opinion leader, they must feel as though they are being heard and also guided in difficult situations (Pollard & Wild, 2014). By the end of the summer, I am hoping my schedule allows me to become a preceptor for new graduates. I view that role as being an opinion leader for an individual, which would progress to a small group. I would love the opportunity to mold new fellows with everything I have learned so far as a postpartum nurse. When a newer nurse comes to me for advice, I want them to feel safe. My goal is never to talk down to someone making him or her feel inadequate for coming to me for help in the first place. If I do not know how to solve the issue I have been made aware of, I seek guidance from another senior nurse.
