HIS MINISTRY & MISSION:
“Forward in Christ Ministries Inc”, was founded in Uganda by Rt. Rev. Doctor Bishop Onang
George Purkweri in the year 2002. The organisation was officially registered with the Government of
Uganda; Registration number 5914/3981 and the Lira Local government Registration number L/143 in the
year 2002. It was registered as an indigenous, self-supportive, non-governmental and non denominational
Christian Organisation.
Forward In Christ Ministries Inc came in to existence to analysis and to address the root cause of
socio- economic and spiritual dilemma within the war torn zone: Northern Uganda, and the surrounding
areas. So it was intended to cover mainly the war torn zones of East Africa: Northern Uganda and some
part of Southern Sudan, Eastern Congo (Zaire) and Rwanda. There is still hope for the ministry to go as far
as the Lord will lead in future. Currently, the head quarter is located in Lira Town, Northern Uganda with
the physical address: Forward in Christ Ministries Inc, Box number 187 Lira- Uganda.
Below are the major Fundamental Beliefs we hold:
- The Bible is God central story for our teaching, faith and practices.
- Worship is the highest priority for intimate relationship and fellowship with God.
- Training / discipleship is fundamental for Human social transformation.
- Holy Spirit & Spiritual gifts are in every believer but needs to be identified, evoked and exercised
for the benefit of the body of Christ.
- Ministry to the needy is very important to God hence is our culture.
- Evangelism and development: is like one bird with two wings which cannot be separated though
is to be handled separately. So our proclamation has social consequences as we call people to
love and repentance in all areas of life (integral mission).
The ministry Values:
Worship as an offer that we give to God in response to what He has done for us throughout the history of
creation, which was climaxed by the life, death and the resurrection of Christ.
Integrity: We consider being honest, sincere, transparent and accountable in all thing as a priority number
one. We do this through having right relationship with God, ourselves, community and environment.
Compassion: We are motivated by God’s love to bring love, hope, justice and peace to people in need.
Servant hood leadership: We value serving God and humanity faithfully as servants especially the lost,
least, and last through discipleship and socio- economic development.
The ministry Vision is to promote a biblical world view of Christian witness that is more holistic and that
shares the whole Bible story as a way of uniting justice and justification by faith, worship and political
action, the spiritual and the material, personal change and structural change together.
With the Mission to preach the full Gospel of Christ that transforms people: spiritually, socially, physically
and mentally.
We have some major Objectives as:
- To preach Christ crucified without favor or fear.
- To carry our economic empowerment through training of vulnerable people in mission and self-help
projects like vocational training and micro- project management.
- To support the vulnerable people: HIV/AIDS victims, people with disabilities and war affected
children (orphans).
- To promote women ministries and develop their initiatives and callings.
- To operate a self sustaining project e.g. radio station / and any business to support the above
vision financially.
The Mission Statement is to draw people to God and, restore their broken relationship with God, man and
themselves through Christ, integrate them in to the family of God by teaching them to live Christ’s
like life style through spiritual, mental, social and physical transformation and send them for
mission to the world.
The target group for this ministry constitutes mainly the vulnerable people like, orphans, school dropouts,
abducted returnees, HIV/Aids victims, widows, disabled, street children, rural pastors and the general
community of the lost, the least and last.
Forward in Christ Ministries Inc”, has been and is still working in partnership with other
organisations that have the same vision of reaching the un- reached people group: least, last and lost
people among the nations of Africa and outside with the love of God.
The fact that Forward In Christ Ministries Inc came in to existence to analysis and to address the
root causes of socio- economic and spiritual dilemma within the war torn zone: Northern Uganda, and the
surrounding areas, it has to obey the great Commandment and the great Commission.
Through helping and sharing the suffering and afflictions of many vulnerable people the
Ministry has helped these people spiritually, socially, mentally, economically and physically. The Ministry
has worked tirelessly to bring a holistic transformational development in all areas of human life and society:
spiritual, physical, social, mental and environmental as one can see below:-
Below are the Main Activities:
1. Economic empowerment;
a) - Micro credit schemes;
We have been and still carrying out this scheme which we have renamed “Banking for the poor”.
So grants are given in the form of a loan to the trained groups of people to help them start off the small
income generating projects. They are expected to pay back every month with little interest of 5% and some
small saving which is given back to them after sometime to help them maintain their business. Then the
money is given to other people in the waiting list as a loan. We have disbursed over 5.300.000 Uganda
shillings so far to about 260 beneficiaries.
Vulnerable people receiving goats
b) - Goat’s, poultry’s and Piggery’s projects.
This is given to orphans and widows to keep and pass one female: goat, chicken or pig to another
person in the waiting list. The same way Bryant. L., Myers has put it, that Jesus’ ministry was to the people
on the edge of society, including the poor Myers.2011, 20-56. So Forward in Christ emulates this ministry
by reaching to those on the edge of society.
c) - Animal traction and transport means.
This project is given to Church leaders in rural areas who have land for cultivation to sustain their family
livelihood. Ox- ploughs and oxen have been given out to Christian leaders to begin rice growing projects.
Some pastors were given motorcycles to easy their transport.

2. Training & Capacity Building Programs:
This is being done through Forward School of Mission and vocational. We train vulnerable people
in both developmental and business projects like Food technology and Hotel management, Tailoring and
garment cutting, Knitting, painting and decorations, in addition to the Bible and theology courses. We also
have a Nursery and Primary school running on at the moment called Bishop Purkweri Nursery and primacy
school.
Vulnerable ladies being training in Tailoring/ craft
Ladies learning skills to make special hand bags
Ladies learning skills to make special hand bags
As a way to demonstrate God’s love and Kingdom, we have so far trained and passed out 168
vulnerable ladies (some of them were got from the streets practicing prostitution) with practical skills such
as tailoring and knitting courses.
We have also trained and are still training war returnees on mushroom growing, painting and
decorations, bakery for women, hand craft, catering and hotel management. Most of those young
vulnerable people who had lost their dear ones during the war can now survive on their own and earn a
living through the vocational training that they have attained.
Pastors being graduated after completing the diplomas
The ministry has trained and graduated over 42 pastors and lay leaders in Bible and vocational courses
using the training materials from DCI School of mission
3. Support to orphans and widows;
We are supporting the education of total orphans through paying their school fees, and provision of
other scholastic materials and bedding. Many of them have completed their education and are now
working.
5. HIV/AIDS programs:
The challenge of HIV/AIDs is a serious one in our country. So the organization is working hand in
hand with the government, and other Non Governmental Organizations to combat its spread. This is
through sensitization, provision of basic material needs like nutritious food items, biblical counseling and
visitation to families of the infected and affected persons.
Orphans and HIV/Aids positive People who are being supported by Forward Ministry
So the ministry has been actively functioning in northern Uganda meeting the spiritual and physical
needs of the people living in Internally Displace People Camps. It has succeeded in the resettlement of the
vulnerable people back to their homes after the war in collaboration with other local churches and
organizations. Above all the ministry has been the fountain of holistic transformational development in
northern Uganda
5 Church Planting & Discipleship:
This has been going on very well and within 8 years now we have planted over 37 indigenous African
independent Churches called Forward Pentecostal Churches all over northern Uganda.
Church for the poor being planted at Kaberamido district
Church for the poor being planted at Loro Oyam district
Church for the poor planted at Bar oganda Lira district
Church for the poor planted at Bar Lonyo Lira district
6 Christmas Party for the poor;
This has been going on since 2002. Every year on the 23rd
day of December roughly 500 to 700
people with different conditions of disabilities and vulnerabilities come together for a Christmas Party and
to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ at George’s home.
.
Party for the poor at George’s home.
Despite the financial challenges that the organisation is still faced with. The organisation is trying to meet
some of its set goals. So Forward In Christ Ministries Inc has been active in Northern Uganda since 2002.

8 Radio Program:
However the most effective work that the ministry has done which achievement and fruits will last
for generation and generation is transforming the lives of vulnerable people/ restoring their marred identity
and relationship with God, themselves, others, and society through radio program. There is an ongoing
testimony that people’s lives have changed and their conditions of living have improved which is the goal of
this ministry. Many people have come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and savoir. More than 37
indigenous African independent Churches are planted all over Northern Uganda. Mostly traumatized people
who had lost hope in life have confessed that they are now able to continue with life struggle.
Radio program has been the most effective tool that God has used to transform lives of
multitude of traumatized, war affected, heartbroken and poverty stricken population of Northern, Eastern
Uganda, a part of eastern Congo and Southern Sudan. All these areas are where Unity Fm radio signal can
reach. So roughly 7 to 8 million people have been listening to George’s teaching / preaching
every Thursday morning for 14 years. He has now transferred to Voice of Lango F.M. radio station.
Otherwise so many people have confessed Christ as their Lord and Savior and testified that their hopes
have been restored. Hence radio program has revived and changed or transformed lives of many people.
Rt. Rev. Doctor Bishop George Purkweri has been carrying out motivational
preaching and teaching. Through counselling on economic, spiritual and social break through over local
radio stations many people lives all over Northern Uganda have been impacted. Many have been
reconciled and restored back with God and their fellow men. So the ministry has been very active working
towards the restoration of people’s marred identity. It has helped many people to rediscover their true
vocation and potentials. For instance in June 2012 Doctor Bishop George happened to
hold a gospel meeting in a certain trading centre call Alibi in Otwal at the border between Lira and Gulu
where Kony’s rebels had put their based for 20 years in Northern Uganda. One may realize that shading of
human blood in Northern Uganda has become as normal as shading the blood of any animal.
So the last Sunday morning when these of George were
launching the new Church, two thieves were got red handed with a stolen animal – the caw. The bloody
thirsty ex- rebels and the angry mobs were running after them with the intention to kill them. One thief after
escaping narrowly from the mob just came across George and the team sitting under a mangoes tree
where George and the group were going to have their first Sunday meeting.
The man was bleeding almost to death. So when he saw George and the team then he gave up life
and said “Haa! I am already tired let me die”. As the mob were shouting and following after him seriously,
George stood up and called upon him saying, please run to me I am George Purkweri. When he heard of
the names George Purkweri he took off towards George. Immediately he came straight and sat under his
feet begging for mercies.
But when George pleaded with the mob that came with pangas, slabs and stones ready to kill him,
they obeyed him and had mercy on the poor thief. The mob even brought the other thief to him so that he
should pray for their souls. They accepted George’s request when they realized that this is the very Bishop
that they have been hearing about over radio preaching about hard work, reconciliations and holiness.
Many people were even glad to see Doctor Bishop George Purkweri whom they have
longed to see physically. Hence they cooled down and forgave the two thieves but warned them never to
try stealing again. Then George called the policeman and handed over the poor bleeding thieves to him.
After their first service with 43 new believers George went to the police post to
check with the thieves and preached to them. After preaching to them he asked them to give their lives to
Christ so that they are forgiven of their sins and become transformed people / become new creatures. One
of them in tears gave his life to Christ but another one said he was a Moslem so he was left to his decision
but warned to steal no more.
However the enemy of this great work has sabotaged the work through paying off George’s
program thus putting him off air up to now. But since these Pentecostal leaders have much money they
have blocked George completely from these secular radio station by paying more than double what George
used to pay for the air time.
THE MISSION:
Two times in the year 2006 George had a vision of building an Altar of worship. The first time he
heard a very audible voice at night that he thought his wife Jane also heard. But when he woke her up and
asked her if she also heard the voice that was speaking to him, she denied since she was deeply asleep
that night.
George assumed that the voice could have come from above. However he took it for granted that
God was telling him to build a special room and dedicate it to the Lord’s service. He thought that God
wanted him to build a house with the intention to dedicate one room for the Lord’s use.
Again on the 25th
October 2006 George had a dream that Reverend
Dickens Okello, his senior pastor at Lira Pentecostal Church was challenging him to go out and open a new
church. So George asked him in the dream to announce the same before the church so that he would be
officially released to go out and open the new church.
But after constructing the house the voice spoke to him the second time in
the night of 14th
December 2006 saying “that is not the Altar that I want you to build for me”. George was
then given the real design of the Altar that he should build in a vision. Some big dry logs with glowing fire in
them were laid down and fresh dry firewood from the forest was put on top of the glowing logs. The fire
from the glowing logs caught up with the fresh firewood and started burning. On that Altar George saw the
map of East African countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and some part of Congo and
southern Sudan being placed on the burning fire.
Later on the whole map of Africa was put on the burning fire but the maps could not get
burnt. The globe was being rotated around on the burning fire. All the five continents were passed over the
burning fire. Then he was told “this is the Altar that I want you to build for me.”
So George tired to interpret the dream to mean that, God was talking about God’s remnants that
had the first love and fire of the Lord as being the dry logs with glowing fire in them which were to lay the
foundation of the ministry. Then the fresh dry firewood from the forest that were put on top of the glowing
logs which caught up the fire could be the new generation that must be laid on the foundation of the first
love and faith of these elders. So that this new generation will pick up the work and run with it all over the
world beginning from East Africa to the whole world.
George came to realise that God wanted him to lay the foundation of the Altar of true worship.
George would make a covenant with the Lord forever which his Children and the next generation will based
on to reach the outmost part of the world. George has tried his best to do this under all cost and pressure.
So on 27/12/2006 George visited his brother Johnson Enamu and shared with him about
the vision, especially about the burning fire from the few logs. He was so excited since God had some time
ago shown him something bursting from their home in Kioga and moving to the whole of Africa. So he
confirmed the vision and endorsed it fully.
On 29/12/2006 George visited his senior pastor at Lira Pentecostal Church and explained the
vision. He was much encouraged by the pastor to go ahead and open a model worship centre in Lira. So
this was a fulfilment of the dream given to him on 25/10/2006 quoted above. On 04 / 01/2007 at 7.38 am
George met with Rev. Joel Mukalo the district overseer of Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Lira at his
home and shared with him the same vision. The vision was about building an Altar for God or opening a
model worship centre in Lira. This worship centre would be autonomous though under the oversight of
Pentecostal Assemblies of God mission. Rev. Joel Mukalu gave George the right hand of fellowship and
encouraged him to go ahead and fulfil this vision.
Rev. Joel Mukalu also shared with him about how God talked with him sometimes ago
concerning how he would became the district overseer of P.A.G in Lira. So he advised George to write a
letter asking for permission to start a new ministry which he promised to endorse and present it to the
district committee and then to National committee respectively. That evening George met with another
Christian leader by names Rev. Johnson Ogema and shared with him about the vision and the burden. He
was also excited about the vision and encouraged him to start laying down strategies and priorities. He told
George just to get the music and public address system in place and find a venue to start the church.
George picked the courage to write a letter asking for official release from
Pentecostal Assemblies of God and took it to his senior Pastor Rev. Dickens Okello. When he presented
this letter his pastor endorsed it straight away and promised to present it to the church committee for further
approval. After the church committee’s approval, Rev. Dickens Okello took it
personally to the district overseer Rev. Joel Mukalu who also sat with his district committee and approved
the new ministries. He was however advised to take it to the national headquarters in Kampala for the final
approval. Rev Joel Mukalu the district overseer of Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Lira took the letter to
the national office. He met with Rev. Simon Peter Emiau, the general overseer of Pentecostal
Assemblies of God in Uganda and Rev. Benjamin Okwir the general secretary of Pentecostal Assemblies
of God in Uganda who gave their final approval to the new ministry. Just as Paul and Barnabas were
released or were sent off by the church at Antioch (Acts 13:3) George was sent off by (P.A.G) Pentecostal
Assemblies of God. Those of Paul and Barnabas were not really missionaries sent out by a church but
were missionaries sent off by a church, released by a particular congregation. So they went out to do the
work of the Lord. George was therefore officially released to start the new ministry
on the 25/2/2007. This was accompanied by the official document that was signed by the top leadership of
Pentecostal Assemblies of God which instructed the district overseer of Lira, Rev. Joel Mukalu to officially
pray and bless George to start the new church.
Joel Mukalu was supposed to officially bless George and the new ministry on Assembly day at Lira
Pentecostal Church on the 4th
/3/2007 according to the instruction from the national headquarters of P.A.G
Kampala. But he did not do that due to the fear that George would come out with many Christians from Lira
Pentecostal Church.
On the other hand while Joel Mukalu was delivering the letter from national headquarters of P.A.G
Kampala to George at his home on Thursday the 1st
/03 /2007 he threatened George. He told George never
to begin the new Church / Ministry with any Christian from Pentecostal Assemblies of God except him, his
wife and family members. Otherwise the permission would be nullified and counselled by the leadership of
Pentecostal Assemblies of God.
When George heard that threat, he went back to his knees asking God how he could start the new
ministry alone with his family members only. That night the Lord challenged him using the story about
Noah’s Ark. He was asked how the animals entered into the Ark after Noah had finished making the Ark.
So the voice said to him that it was not Noah’s responsibility to look for the animals but God’s responsibility.
“You just start the work I shall bring my own people to you”, the voice said. You shall just receive those
whom I shall bring then you shall direct them where they should work until when I God opens the door of
the Ark.
So George obeyed God voice and on the 11/3/2007 he launched an African independent church
with his family members at Lira Town college hall. George then named the new Ministry “Forward
Pentecostal Mission”. The first Sunday according to the record they were only 16 members (7 adults and 9
children) in number and the first offering was 8.950 shillings. The following Sunday on the 18th
March 2007
they were 31 adults including students from Lira Town College plus the 9 children totalling to 40 people.
Their offertory was 9.000 shillings. The 3rd
Sunday on 25th
March 2007 their number dropped to 18 adults
and 15 children and the offertory was 4.950 shillings. On the 1st
April 2007 their number increased again to
22 adults and 16 children and the offertory was 6.700 shillings.
But as the Voice of God had said, just within two years George had over 30 churches all
over Northern Uganda. These churches are founded on indigenous world views rather than an imported
world views from the people of different culture. The sole aim of founding those churches is to reach deep
to the felt needs of the people in ways that are less culturally foreign.
So many leaders joined the ministry, as one can see from the photos below. None
of them was convinced by George to join the ministry but all of them could testify that they obeyed the voice
of God in their hearts to join Forward Pentecostal Mission without any strings attached to their coming.
Those of J.B. Okello and Francis Okello came as far as Pader about 100 kilometres from Lira to look for the
new ministry. They testified that their souls had found peace in service God with George.
Forward Pentecostal Church Leaders
Otherwise George has been in His service for over 34 years according to his curriculum vitae. He
has served in various capacities; as a church pastor, as a missionary, as trainer/ teacher and as a
manager/ director.
OTHER MINISTRY WORKS
Apart from the first pastoral leadership position that George held immediately he gave his life to
Christ as his Lord and Saviour in 1980, George served as the Chairman of Scripture Union in Lira Town
College from 1988-1989. He then served as the youth pastor with Pentecostal Assemblies of God from
1989-1995. After graduating from Alpha – Omega seminary, he joined All Nations Gospel Church as a
church pastor for three years from 1995 -1998
George again went for his Masters Degree program in UK. After coming back from UK he opened
a branch church with Lira Pentecostal Church, called Bar Ogole Pentecostal Church. He served as the first
pastor for this Church from 2000 -2001. Again George had a call from his spiritual son Apostle Julius Peter
Oyet to go and open the first Life Line Church in Kampala. So George became the first pastor of Life Line
Church in Kampala from 2002-2003.
Then George left Kampala for Lira due to the sickness of his son Emanuel who had a damaged
brain. He then went back to the mother Church at Lira Pentecostal Church. From there he had the vision of
building an Alter of worship for God. So he obeyed God and started an indigenous, African independent
church on 11/3/1997 called Forward Pentecostal Mission after being released officially by Pentecostal
Assemblies of God. These African independent churches have now grown to over 30 Churches in Northern
Uganda although they are having challenges of no proper church buildings and leaderships.
HIS MISSIONERY WORK
As a missionary, George had opportunities to take the Good news of our Lord Jesus Christ to
Southern Sudan, Eastern Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya. He planted Churches in some of those
nations and opened a Bible college in Southern Sudan by the grace of God.
He handed those churches and the Bible school to the care of the indigenous pastors. George
travelled as far as Rai in Netherlands and many time preached the challenging Gospel in the United
Kingdom.

HIS TRAINING MINISTRY
As a trainer, George founded a Bible school in Lira called “All Nations Berea Bible college”
under the affiliation of New Covenant International University USA and served as the first Principle
from 1995-1997. After this he founded another Bible school called “Forward Bible and Vocational
Training school” offering diploma in Bible and vocational training under the affiliation of DCI Trust
school of Mission in U.K. He has been training Church leaders, orphans and vulnerable ladies.
George has also been one of the promoters of Equip Leadership training through
Samaritan Purse International Relief organisation where he translated the 6 books of Equip
leadership into the local heart language. He used these materials to train many Christian leaders in
the internal displaced camps during the 20 years of insurgency in Northern Uganda.
George also used Light of Africa Leadership teaching materials to train pastors in the
internal displaced camps from the year 2004 to 2007. In the year 2010 George also headed the
African Bible Institute in Lira. Currently he is one of the trainers with Transforming Nation Alliance
Uganda. At the same time he is mentoring some Students taking M.A Degree courses in Gulu.
By involving the community to determine the project that meets their felt needs,
George has been training widows, vulnerable ladies and orphans on projects like mushroom
growing and other micro enterprises: catering services, Tailoring and garment cutting, knitting,
painting and decoration etc. The vulnerable community have taken ownership of these projects and
they are running with them at the moment.
George has been recommended by many radio listeners for his good motivating
preaching/ teaching over F.M Radio stations. For instant the Minster in charge of Northern Uganda
reconstruction, Hon. Minister Rebecca Otengo one day openly quoted George as the best radio
teacher who has transformed lives in Northern Uganda both spiritually and economically.
She was then prompted to sponsor this radio program for two years. This was an
encouragement to George to teach the poor people in Northern Uganda concerning spiritual and
economic transformation. People always say that George teaches about righteousness and hard
work to prepare people for eternity by living happily on this earth. Lastly as a manager and director
George served with All Nations Christian care as Loan / Credit officer from 1997-1998. He also
served as a Public Relations officer with All Nations Christian Care in1998. Currently George is the
founder and director of Forward In Christ Ministries Inc. and Forward Pentecostal Churches of the
poor in Uganda.
George has opened up “Bishop Purkweri Nursery and primary- a boarding primary school
in Omito- Lira with the aim of raising a generation with high moral and integrity through education.
Actually integrity and moral is dying so fast in Uganda at the moment. Above all George still have
a bigger picture of empowering more potential leaders to run with the gospel of our Lord to the
poorest of the poor since the harvest field is so ripe.

It was registered as an indigenous, self-supportive, non-governmental and non denominational Christian Organisation. Forward In Christ Ministries Inc came in to existence to analysis and to address the root cause of socio- economic and spiritual dilemma within the war torn zone: Northern Uganda, and the surrounding areas. - Ministry tothe needy is very important to God hence is our culture. - Evangelism and development: is like one bird with two wings which cannot be separated though is to be handled separately. So our proclamation has social consequences as we call people to love and repentance in all areas of life (integral mission). The ministry Values: Worship as an offer that we give to God in response to what He has done for us throughout the history of creation, which was climaxed by the life, death and the resurrection of Christ. Integrity: We consider being honest, sincere, transparent and accountable in all thing as a priority number one. We do this through having right relationship with God, ourselves, community and environment. Compassion: We are motivated by God’s love to bring love, hope, justice and peace to people in need. Servant hood leadership: We value serving God and humanity faithfully as servants especially the lost, least, and last through discipleship and socio- economic development. The ministry Vision is to promote a biblical world view of Christian witness that is more holistic and that shares the whole Bible story as a way of uniting justice and justification by faith, worship and political action, the spiritual and the material, personal change and structural change together. With the Mission to preach the full Gospel of Christ that transforms people: spiritually, socially, physically and mentally. We have some major Objectives as: - To preach Christ crucified without favor or fear. - To carry our economic empowerment through training of vulnerable people in mission and self-help projects like vocational training and micro- project management. - To support the vulnerable people: HIV/AIDS victims, people with disabilities and war affected children (orphans). - To promote women ministries and develop their initiatives and callings. - To operate a self sustaining project e.g. radio station / and any business to support the above vision financially.

The Mission Statementis to draw people to God and, restore their broken relationship with God, man and themselves through Christ, integrate them in to the family of God by teaching them to live Christ’s like life style through spiritual, mental, social and physical transformation and send them for mission to the world. The target group for this ministry constitutes mainly the vulnerable people like, orphans, school dropouts, abducted returnees, HIV/Aids victims, widows, disabled, street children, rural pastors and the general community of the lost, the least and last. Forward in Christ Ministries Inc”, has been and is still working in partnership with other organisations that have the same vision of reaching the un- reached people group: least, last and lost people among the nations of Africa and outside with the love of God. The fact that Forward In Christ Ministries Inc came in to existence to analysis and to address the root causes of socio- economic and spiritual dilemma within the war torn zone: Northern Uganda, and the surrounding areas, it has to obey the great Commandment and the great Commission. Through helping and sharing the suffering and afflictions of many vulnerable people the Ministry has helped these people spiritually, socially, mentally, economically and physically. The Ministry has worked tirelessly to bring a holistic transformational development in all areas of human life and society: spiritual, physical, social, mental and environmental as one can see below:- Below are the Main Activities: 1. Economic empowerment; a) - Micro credit schemes; We have been and still carrying out this scheme which we have renamed “Banking for the poor”. So grants are given in the form of a loan to the trained groups of people to help them start off the small income generating projects. They are expected to pay back every month with little interest of 5% and some small saving which is given back to them after sometime to help them maintain their business. Then the money is given to other people in the waiting list as a loan. We have disbursed over 5.300.000 Uganda shillings so far to about 260 beneficiaries.

Vulnerable people receivinggoats b) - Goat’s, poultry’s and Piggery’s projects. This is given to orphans and widows to keep and pass one female: goat, chicken or pig to another person in the waiting list. The same way Bryant. L., Myers has put it, that Jesus’ ministry was to the people on the edge of society, including the poor Myers.2011, 20-56. So Forward in Christ emulates this ministry by reaching to those on the edge of society. c) - Animal traction and transport means. This project is given to Church leaders in rural areas who have land for cultivation to sustain their family livelihood. Ox- ploughs and oxen have been given out to Christian leaders to begin rice growing projects.

Ladies learning skillsto make special hand bags As a way to demonstrate God’s love and Kingdom, we have so far trained and passed out 168 vulnerable ladies (some of them were got from the streets practicing prostitution) with practical skills such as tailoring and knitting courses. We have also trained and are still training war returnees on mushroom growing, painting and decorations, bakery for women, hand craft, catering and hotel management. Most of those young vulnerable people who had lost their dear ones during the war can now survive on their own and earn a living through the vocational training that they have attained. Pastors being graduated after completing the diplomas The ministry has trained and graduated over 42 pastors and lay leaders in Bible and vocational courses using the training materials from DCI School of mission 3. Support to orphans and widows; We are supporting the education of total orphans through paying their school fees, and provision of other scholastic materials and bedding. Many of them have completed their education and are now working.

    5. HIV/AIDS programs: Thechallenge of HIV/AIDs is a serious one in our country. So the organization is working hand in hand with the government, and other Non Governmental Organizations to combat its spread. This is through sensitization, provision of basic material needs like nutritious food items, biblical counseling and visitation to families of the infected and affected persons. Orphans and HIV/Aids positive People who are being supported by Forward Ministry So the ministry has been actively functioning in northern Uganda meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the people living in Internally Displace People Camps. It has succeeded in the resettlement of the vulnerable people back to their homes after the war in collaboration with other local churches and organizations. Above all the ministry has been the fountain of holistic transformational development in northern Uganda 5 Church Planting & Discipleship: This has been going on very well and within 8 years now we have planted over 37 indigenous African independent Churches called Forward Pentecostal Churches all over northern Uganda.

Party for thepoor at George’s home 8 Radio Program: However the most effective work that the ministry has done which achievement and fruits will last for generation and generation is transforming the lives of vulnerable people/ restoring their marred identity and relationship with God, themselves, others, and society through radio program. There is an ongoing testimony that people’s lives have changed and their conditions of living have improved which is the goal of this ministry. Many people have come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and savoir. More than 37 indigenous African independent Churches are planted all over Northern Uganda. Mostly traumatized people who had lost hope in life have confessed that they are now able to continue with life struggle. Radio program has been the most effective tool that God has used to transform lives of multitude of traumatized, war affected, heartbroken and poverty stricken population of Northern, Eastern Uganda, a part of eastern Congo and Southern Sudan. All these areas are where Unity Fm radio signal can reach. So roughly 7 to 8 million people have been listening to George’s teaching / preaching every Thursday morning for 14 years. He has now transferred to Voice of Lango F.M. radio station. Otherwise so many people have confessed Christ as their Lord and Savior and testified that their hopes have been restored. Hence radio program has revived and changed or transformed lives of many people.

Rt. Rev. DoctorBishop George Purkweri has been carrying out motivational preaching and teaching. Through counselling on economic, spiritual and social break through over local radio stations many people lives all over Northern Uganda have been impacted. Many have been reconciled and restored back with God and their fellow men. So the ministry has been very active working towards the restoration of people’s marred identity. It has helped many people to rediscover their true vocation and potentials. For instance in June 2012 Doctor Bishop George happened to hold a gospel meeting in a certain trading centre call Alibi in Otwal at the border between Lira and Gulu where Kony’s rebels had put their based for 20 years in Northern Uganda. One may realize that shading of human blood in Northern Uganda has become as normal as shading the blood of any animal. So the last Sunday morning when these of George were launching the new Church, two thieves were got red handed with a stolen animal – the caw. The bloody thirsty ex- rebels and the angry mobs were running after them with the intention to kill them. One thief after escaping narrowly from the mob just came across George and the team sitting under a mangoes tree where George and the group were going to have their first Sunday meeting. The man was bleeding almost to death. So when he saw George and the team then he gave up life and said “Haa! I am already tired let me die”. As the mob were shouting and following after him seriously, George stood up and called upon him saying, please run to me I am George Purkweri. When he heard of the names George Purkweri he took off towards George. Immediately he came straight and sat under his feet begging for mercies. But when George pleaded with the mob that came with pangas, slabs and stones ready to kill him, they obeyed him and had mercy on the poor thief. The mob even brought the other thief to him so that he should pray for their souls. They accepted George’s request when they realized that this is the very Bishop that they have been hearing about over radio preaching about hard work, reconciliations and holiness. Many people were even glad to see Doctor Bishop George Purkweri whom they have longed to see physically. Hence they cooled down and forgave the two thieves but warned them never to try stealing again. Then George called the policeman and handed over the poor bleeding thieves to him. After their first service with 43 new believers George went to the police post to check with the thieves and preached to them. After preaching to them he asked them to give their lives to Christ so that they are forgiven of their sins and become transformed people / become new creatures. One of them in tears gave his life to Christ but another one said he was a Moslem so he was left to his decision

but warned tosteal no more. However the enemy of this great work has sabotaged the work through paying off George’s program thus putting him off air up to now. But since these Pentecostal leaders have much money they have blocked George completely from these secular radio station by paying more than double what George used to pay for the air time. THE MISSION: Two times in the year 2006 George had a vision of building an Altar of worship. The first time he heard a very audible voice at night that he thought his wife Jane also heard. But when he woke her up and asked her if she also heard the voice that was speaking to him, she denied since she was deeply asleep that night. George assumed that the voice could have come from above. However he took it for granted that God was telling him to build a special room and dedicate it to the Lord’s service. He thought that God wanted him to build a house with the intention to dedicate one room for the Lord’s use. Again on the 25th October 2006 George had a dream that Reverend Dickens Okello, his senior pastor at Lira Pentecostal Church was challenging him to go out and open a new church. So George asked him in the dream to announce the same before the church so that he would be officially released to go out and open the new church. But after constructing the house the voice spoke to him the second time in the night of 14th December 2006 saying “that is not the Altar that I want you to build for me”. George was then given the real design of the Altar that he should build in a vision. Some big dry logs with glowing fire in them were laid down and fresh dry firewood from the forest was put on top of the glowing logs. The fire from the glowing logs caught up with the fresh firewood and started burning. On that Altar George saw the map of East African countries: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and some part of Congo and southern Sudan being placed on the burning fire. Later on the whole map of Africa was put on the burning fire but the maps could not get burnt. The globe was being rotated around on the burning fire. All the five continents were passed over the burning fire. Then he was told “this is the Altar that I want you to build for me.” So George tired to interpret the dream to mean that, God was talking about God’s remnants that had the first love and fire of the Lord as being the dry logs with glowing fire in them which were to lay the foundation of the ministry. Then the fresh dry firewood from the forest that were put on top of the glowing

logs which caughtup the fire could be the new generation that must be laid on the foundation of the first love and faith of these elders. So that this new generation will pick up the work and run with it all over the world beginning from East Africa to the whole world. George came to realise that God wanted him to lay the foundation of the Altar of true worship. George would make a covenant with the Lord forever which his Children and the next generation will based on to reach the outmost part of the world. George has tried his best to do this under all cost and pressure. So on 27/12/2006 George visited his brother Johnson Enamu and shared with him about the vision, especially about the burning fire from the few logs. He was so excited since God had some time ago shown him something bursting from their home in Kioga and moving to the whole of Africa. So he confirmed the vision and endorsed it fully. On 29/12/2006 George visited his senior pastor at Lira Pentecostal Church and explained the vision. He was much encouraged by the pastor to go ahead and open a model worship centre in Lira. So this was a fulfilment of the dream given to him on 25/10/2006 quoted above. On 04 / 01/2007 at 7.38 am George met with Rev. Joel Mukalo the district overseer of Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Lira at his home and shared with him the same vision. The vision was about building an Altar for God or opening a model worship centre in Lira. This worship centre would be autonomous though under the oversight of Pentecostal Assemblies of God mission. Rev. Joel Mukalu gave George the right hand of fellowship and encouraged him to go ahead and fulfil this vision. Rev. Joel Mukalu also shared with him about how God talked with him sometimes ago concerning how he would became the district overseer of P.A.G in Lira. So he advised George to write a letter asking for permission to start a new ministry which he promised to endorse and present it to the district committee and then to National committee respectively. That evening George met with another Christian leader by names Rev. Johnson Ogema and shared with him about the vision and the burden. He was also excited about the vision and encouraged him to start laying down strategies and priorities. He told George just to get the music and public address system in place and find a venue to start the church. George picked the courage to write a letter asking for official release from Pentecostal Assemblies of God and took it to his senior Pastor Rev. Dickens Okello. When he presented this letter his pastor endorsed it straight away and promised to present it to the church committee for further approval. After the church committee’s approval, Rev. Dickens Okello took it personally to the district overseer Rev. Joel Mukalu who also sat with his district committee and approved the new ministries. He was however advised to take it to the national headquarters in Kampala for the final

approval. Rev JoelMukalu the district overseer of Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Lira took the letter to the national office. He met with Rev. Simon Peter Emiau, the general overseer of Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Uganda and Rev. Benjamin Okwir the general secretary of Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Uganda who gave their final approval to the new ministry. Just as Paul and Barnabas were released or were sent off by the church at Antioch (Acts 13:3) George was sent off by (P.A.G) Pentecostal Assemblies of God. Those of Paul and Barnabas were not really missionaries sent out by a church but were missionaries sent off by a church, released by a particular congregation. So they went out to do the work of the Lord. George was therefore officially released to start the new ministry on the 25/2/2007. This was accompanied by the official document that was signed by the top leadership of Pentecostal Assemblies of God which instructed the district overseer of Lira, Rev. Joel Mukalu to officially pray and bless George to start the new church. Joel Mukalu was supposed to officially bless George and the new ministry on Assembly day at Lira Pentecostal Church on the 4th /3/2007 according to the instruction from the national headquarters of P.A.G Kampala. But he did not do that due to the fear that George would come out with many Christians from Lira Pentecostal Church. On the other hand while Joel Mukalu was delivering the letter from national headquarters of P.A.G Kampala to George at his home on Thursday the 1st /03 /2007 he threatened George. He told George never to begin the new Church / Ministry with any Christian from Pentecostal Assemblies of God except him, his wife and family members. Otherwise the permission would be nullified and counselled by the leadership of Pentecostal Assemblies of God. When George heard that threat, he went back to his knees asking God how he could start the new ministry alone with his family members only. That night the Lord challenged him using the story about Noah’s Ark. He was asked how the animals entered into the Ark after Noah had finished making the Ark. So the voice said to him that it was not Noah’s responsibility to look for the animals but God’s responsibility. “You just start the work I shall bring my own people to you”, the voice said. You shall just receive those whom I shall bring then you shall direct them where they should work until when I God opens the door of the Ark. So George obeyed God voice and on the 11/3/2007 he launched an African independent church with his family members at Lira Town college hall. George then named the new Ministry “Forward Pentecostal Mission”. The first Sunday according to the record they were only 16 members (7 adults and 9
  • 22.
children) in numberand the first offering was 8.950 shillings. The following Sunday on the 18th March 2007 they were 31 adults including students from Lira Town College plus the 9 children totalling to 40 people. Their offertory was 9.000 shillings. The 3rd Sunday on 25th March 2007 their number dropped to 18 adults and 15 children and the offertory was 4.950 shillings. On the 1st April 2007 their number increased again to 22 adults and 16 children and the offertory was 6.700 shillings. But as the Voice of God had said, just within two years George had over 30 churches all over Northern Uganda. These churches are founded on indigenous world views rather than an imported world views from the people of different culture. The sole aim of founding those churches is to reach deep to the felt needs of the people in ways that are less culturally foreign. So many leaders joined the ministry, as one can see from the photos below. None of them was convinced by George to join the ministry but all of them could testify that they obeyed the voice of God in their hearts to join Forward Pentecostal Mission without any strings attached to their coming. Those of J.B. Okello and Francis Okello came as far as Pader about 100 kilometres from Lira to look for the new ministry. They testified that their souls had found peace in service God with George.

Forward Pentecostal ChurchLeaders Otherwise George has been in His service for over 34 years according to his curriculum vitae. He has served in various capacities; as a church pastor, as a missionary, as trainer/ teacher and as a manager/ director. OTHER MINISTRY WORKS Apart from the first pastoral leadership position that George held immediately he gave his life to Christ as his Lord and Saviour in 1980, George served as the Chairman of Scripture Union in Lira Town College from 1988-1989. He then served as the youth pastor with Pentecostal Assemblies of God from 1989-1995. After graduating from Alpha – Omega seminary, he joined All Nations Gospel Church as a church pastor for three years from 1995 -1998 George again went for his Masters Degree program in UK. After coming back from UK he opened a branch church with Lira Pentecostal Church, called Bar Ogole Pentecostal Church. He served as the first pastor for this Church from 2000 -2001. Again George had a call from his spiritual son Apostle Julius Peter Oyet to go and open the first Life Line Church in Kampala. So George became the first pastor of Life Line Church in Kampala from 2002-2003. Then George left Kampala for Lira due to the sickness of his son Emanuel who had a damaged brain. He then went back to the mother Church at Lira Pentecostal Church. From there he had the vision of building an Alter of worship for God. So he obeyed God and started an indigenous, African independent church on 11/3/1997 called Forward Pentecostal Mission after being released officially by Pentecostal Assemblies of God. These African independent churches have now grown to over 30 Churches in Northern Uganda although they are having challenges of no proper church buildings and leaderships. HIS MISSIONERY WORK As a missionary, George had opportunities to take the Good news of our Lord Jesus Christ to Southern Sudan, Eastern Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Kenya. He planted Churches in some of those nations and opened a Bible college in Southern Sudan by the grace of God. He handed those churches and the Bible school to the care of the indigenous pastors. George travelled as far as Rai in Netherlands and many time preached the challenging Gospel in the United Kingdom.

HIS TRAINING MINISTRY Asa trainer, George founded a Bible school in Lira called “All Nations Berea Bible college” under the affiliation of New Covenant International University USA and served as the first Principle from 1995-1997. After this he founded another Bible school called “Forward Bible and Vocational Training school” offering diploma in Bible and vocational training under the affiliation of DCI Trust school of Mission in U.K. He has been training Church leaders, orphans and vulnerable ladies. George has also been one of the promoters of Equip Leadership training through Samaritan Purse International Relief organisation where he translated the 6 books of Equip leadership into the local heart language. He used these materials to train many Christian leaders in the internal displaced camps during the 20 years of insurgency in Northern Uganda. George also used Light of Africa Leadership teaching materials to train pastors in the internal displaced camps from the year 2004 to 2007. In the year 2010 George also headed the African Bible Institute in Lira. Currently he is one of the trainers with Transforming Nation Alliance Uganda. At the same time he is mentoring some Students taking M.A Degree courses in Gulu. By involving the community to determine the project that meets their felt needs, George has been training widows, vulnerable ladies and orphans on projects like mushroom growing and other micro enterprises: catering services, Tailoring and garment cutting, knitting, painting and decoration etc. The vulnerable community have taken ownership of these projects and they are running with them at the moment. George has been recommended by many radio listeners for his good motivating preaching/ teaching over F.M Radio stations. For instant the Minster in charge of Northern Uganda reconstruction, Hon. Minister Rebecca Otengo one day openly quoted George as the best radio teacher who has transformed lives in Northern Uganda both spiritually and economically. She was then prompted to sponsor this radio program for two years. This was an encouragement to George to teach the poor people in Northern Uganda concerning spiritual and economic transformation. People always say that George teaches about righteousness and hard work to prepare people for eternity by living happily on this earth. Lastly as a manager and director George served with All Nations Christian care as Loan / Credit officer from 1997-1998. He also served as a Public Relations officer with All Nations Christian Care in1998. Currently George is the

George has opened up “Bishop Purkweri Nursery and primary- a boarding primary school in Omito- Lira with the aim of raising a generation with high moral and integrity through education. Actually integrity and moral is dying so fast in Uganda at the moment. Above all George still have a bigger picture of empowering more potential leaders to run with the gospel of our Lord to the poorest of the poor since the harvest field is so ripe.
