Punjab National Bank was established in 1894 in Lahore as the first bank started with solely Indian capital. It has maintained accounts for important Indian leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawahar Lal Nehru. PNB was founded by leaders of the Swadeshi movement and opened for business in 1895. It has since grown to be a major public sector bank in India with listings on the BSE and NSE stock exchanges.
