Following the aftermath of Pakistan’s worst floods in 2010, the most urgent need for the rehabilitation process is in the building of homes and restoration of livelihoods that have been destroyed. The pressing need is for communities to be approached in a holistic way so that affected persons can have shelter while also beginning the journey towards self-sufficiency.
Punjab Government in the leadership of chief minister Shahbaz Sharif took the initiative to build 22 model villages with all basic facilities have been constructed in flood hit areas of Punjab. He stated that the construction of the villages would bring new culture in these areas.
Director General, Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Khalid Sherdil played leading role in planning, coordinating and managing the construction of state of the art model villages in eleven flood affected districts.
