 •     University of Pune, one of the premier universities in India, is positioned in the North-western part of
       Pune city having status of University of Potential Excellence (UPE) and reaccredited with Grade ‘A’.

 •     The Department of Education & Extension was established in 1990 with aims as research and higher
       learning center in area of Education and Educational Sciences special learning on Teacher Education.

 •     Conduct Education Interact Program which is an interaction of students with eminent personalities in
       the field of Education in the Department, at least two times in a month to acquaint them with and to
       make students aware of the best, latest & innovative practices.

 •     Student will conduct research work with well established research community and receive an
       opportunity to participate in staff and student forums and conferences.

 •     Research at the post-graduate level is compulsory according to the course curriculum. So in the
       department every post-graduate student is engaged in Research work to learn the methodology of
       research work.

 •     Organize internship for the 3 weeks for each student in B. Ed College Program to experience the world
       of work environment.

 •     The program presently covers 114 Colleges of Education and has impacted more than 75000 student
       teachers since its inception in 2002.

  among their students.

 2001: The Intel Teach Program association started with the Pune University as both felt the need to
   have sustained professional development programs and appropriate technology innovations for the
   overall improvement of the teacher education system.

 2002: MOU was signed in 2002 and the University had integrated Intel Teach Pre-Service curriculum
   V 1.0 as a compulsory component of B.Ed ICT practical syllabus.

 2005: Intel as a trusted advisor has been invited for the university curriculum review in 2005 and
   Intel Teach Pre-service V 2.0 was integrated.

 Conducting Leadership program for principals of Colleges of Education affiliated to Pune University,
   Professional development workshops for Teacher educators, Student Teacher for overall
   improvement of the teacher education system.

 Pune University decided to upgrade the content for ICT subject to make the students better
   equipped to face the challenges.

 2007 :
     Issuing minimum ICT infrastructure guidelines to all the Colleges of Education to enable them to be
      ready for the 21st century scenarios.
     Curriculum review meeting to discuss the ICT content of the B.Ed curriculum.
     Presenting Intel Essential Course V10.1 Modules to Education syllabus committee to discuss the ICT
      Practicum component.
     6th Nov 07: Agreed to integrate Intel Essential Course Version 10.1 modules as a practical component
      of the B.Ed syllabus.

 2008: Presenting the syllabus to the TE’s from affiliated B.Ed colleges for the faculty approval.

 2009: BOS and Academic Council approved the integration and implementation from Academic year 2009.

 2010: Intel Teach Elements PBA(Project Based Approaches) modules were integrated in the Pune
  University’s ICT practical component incorporating the PBA modules in the Version 10.1 modules.

Brief Description of the initiative
    DEE-UoP



 Intel® Teach Essentials Course V10.1 helped classroom teachers develop student-centered learning through
  technology integration and project-based approaches.

 It includes identifying ways students and teachers can use technology to enhance learning through research,
  communication, collaboration, and productivity strategies and tools.

 Student teachers have started using ICT in practice teaching lessons to make the teaching learning process
  effective.

 It provides hands-on learning and the creation of curricular units and assessments, which address state and
  national academic and technology standards.

 It facilitates student-centered classrooms to encourage student self- direction, higher-order thinking.

 Intel Teach Elements is an e-learning course for teachers & student teachers to enable them to plan, transact
  and evaluate projects effectively in class.

1. Judicious use of technology to enhance teaching learning.

2. Focus on technology supported learning methodologies like PBL (Project Based Learning), PBA (Project
    Based Approaches)

3. Development of research based content at regular time intervals.

4. Strong worldwide feedback collection mechanism to improvise and strengthen program implementation at
    various levels with diverse stakeholders.

5. Enabling the students and teachers gain technical expertise without depending upon anyone, as it had
    independent learning options.

6. Content enriched website which includes in-depth information about formative, summative assessments.

    7. The Designing Effective Projects resource includes a collection of exemplary Unit Plans that integrate
       technology into classroom projects.

    8. Assessing Projects helps teachers create assessments that address 21st century skills and provides
       strategies to make assessment an integral part of their teaching and their students’ learning supported with
       repository of more than 200 assessment tools. These can be downloaded and modified for use and also
       maintained in an online assessment library with the help of the workspace provided on the website.

    9. Use of web2.0 technologies viz, blog, wikis, online book marking, tagging, VOIP tools provide an online plat
       form for collaboration and communication to enhance the outcome of the project.

    10. Strong and well researched content is available in the elearning mode.

    11. Created e-culture in Colleges of Education.

    12. Extended e-Learning to Visually Impaired through Advanced Technology Blind Student's Learning Centre
       (2008).

Achievements of the project
      DEE-UoP


    1. Pune University integrated Intel Teach curriculum as compulsory component of B.Ed practicum in 2002.

    2. Pune university is the first in South Asia Pacific to implement the V10.1 curriculum in the year 2008.

    3. Pune University launched e learning in 2009 by implementing Intel Teach Elements – PBA (Project Based
       Approaches) course as compulsory component of ICT in B.Ed curriculum.

    4. Teacher Educators and Student teachers won national level awards in ICT integration. Similarly teacher
       educators from different affiliated colleges have regularly participated and presented papers or prepared
       casestudys in the Nation level workshops like NAAC workshop, RTF (Research Task force) workshop.

    5. The program presently covers 114 Colleges of Education and has impacted more than 75000 student teachers
       since its inception in 2002.

                          Strategies to overcome

    1. Strong opposition from some section of people questioning the need of integrating technology.


    2. The University wanted to spread pedagogy and technology across diverse environments, teacher

       educators, and student teachers.


    3. Ensure quality of this endeavour across the more than 100 Colleges of Education under its umbrella.


    4. Maintaining infrastructure for quality implementation of the curriculum across the three districts.


    5. Monitoring quality implementation across all colleges to ensure accommodation of diverse learners

       and environments.

1. The Program offers a wide range of content and mode of transaction which enables adaptability of
    implementation across diverse needs.

2. The program offers the flexibility to the stakeholder to pick and choose modules/ content suiting their needs
    and infrastructure.

3. Providing national and state level platform for showcasing or sharing the programme implementation.

4. Intel Education in India established the ‘Strategic Advocacy Group on Education (SAGE)’ consisting of
    eminent educationists, educational administrators and professionals working towards good strategic planning
    making and making intelligent impact possible where University Pune HOD of education is part of this group.

5. Creating awareness about the program in other universities through seminars and UGC sponsored National
    level courses which create a strong platform for others to moot adaption and integration.

Scalability of the programme
    DEE-UoP



    1. The basic versions of the program had multilingual content to offer which enables penetration of reaching
       large beneficiaries.

    2. Introducing pedagogy in the e- learning mode of transaction.

    3. Policy initiatives such as curriculum integration in the B.Ed syllabus, evaluation of implementation by the
       university committees, mandatory trainings for all colleges of education, minimum infrastructure
       guidelines in the form of directives to all colleges, mandatory course training completion certificates to be
       submitted to evaluation committees at the end of year which led to quality implementation across 114
       colleges.

    4. Implementing technology aided lessons in schools while practice teaching has mooted / reinforced ICTE
       implementation in school scenario.

    5. Web 2.0 tools integration in syllabus has led to providing an online sharing platform for collaboration and
       communication despite the geographical hurdles.

    The University measured the impact of the program upon the student teachers annually as follows:

    •   70% student teachers use Web 2.0 technologies through integration in projects

    •   100% student teachers experience the benefits of e-learning

    •   80% student teachers use technology as a productivity tool

    •   90% student teachers use technology as a communication tool

    •   50% student teachers use technology as a collaboration tool

    •   90% student teachers use technology to support overall administration

    •   80% post graduate students use technology as a research tool

Background of Pune University – DEE- UoP Dept of Education & Extension • University of Pune, one of the premier universities in India, is positioned in the North-western part of Pune city having status of University of Potential Excellence (UPE) and reaccredited with Grade ‘A’. • The Department of Education & Extension was established in 1990 with aims as research and higher learning center in area of Education and Educational Sciences special learning on Teacher Education. • Conduct Education Interact Program which is an interaction of students with eminent personalities in the field of Education in the Department, at least two times in a month to acquaint them with and to make students aware of the best, latest & innovative practices. • Student will conduct research work with well established research community and receive an opportunity to participate in staff and student forums and conferences. • Research at the post-graduate level is compulsory according to the course curriculum. Intel Partnership with Pune University DEE-UoP  2001: The Intel Teach Program association started with the Pune University as both felt the need to have sustained professional development programs and appropriate technology innovations for the overall improvement of the teacher education system.  2002: MOU was signed in 2002 and the University had integrated Intel Teach Pre-Service curriculum V 1.0 as a compulsory component of B.Ed ICT practical syllabus.  2005: Intel as a trusted advisor has been invited for the university curriculum review in 2005 and Intel Teach Pre-service V 2.0 was integrated.  Conducting Leadership program for principals of Colleges of Education affiliated to Pune University, Professional development workshops for Teacher educators, Student Teacher for overall improvement of the teacher education system.  Pune University decided to upgrade the content for ICT subject to make the students better equipped to face the challenges. Assessing Projects helps teachers create assessments that address 21st century skills and provides strategies to make assessment an integral part of their teaching and their students’ learning supported with repository of more than 200 assessment tools. These can be downloaded and modified for use and also maintained in an online assessment library with the help of the workspace provided on the website. 9.   • 14. Achievements of the project DEE-UoP 1. Pune University integrated Intel Teach curriculum as compulsory component of B.Ed practicum in 2002. 2. Pune university is the first in South Asia Pacific to implement the V10.1 curriculum in the year 2008. 3. The University wanted to spread pedagogy and technology across diverse environments, teacher educators, and student teachers. 3. Ensure quality of this endeavour across the more than 100 Colleges of Education under its umbrella. 4. Maintaining infrastructure for quality implementation of the curriculum across the three districts. 5. Introducing pedagogy in the e- learning mode of transaction. 3. Policy initiatives such as curriculum integration in the B.Ed syllabus, evaluation of implementation by the university committees, mandatory trainings for all colleges of education, minimum infrastructure guidelines in the form of directives to all colleges, mandatory course training completion certificates to be submitted to evaluation committees at the end of year which led to quality implementation across 114 colleges. 4.
