• All punctuations should be followed by a
space.

• Punctuations symbol should follow
immediately after the text.
Note: In the above example there is no space
between “e” and “,” comma.

• Comma is used to separate items in a list.
• Two items in a list will be separated by and

4. • More than two items in a list will be separated
by comma finally with an and

5. • Comma is used to set off adverbs such as

Moreover, Furthermore …
• Also used to separate phrases to improve the
readability

6. Full stop
• Full stop used to end a statement
Example:
An apple a day, keeps the doctor away.
Note: there should not be any space before dot
or full stop.

7. Colon :
• Colon used before list, description, definition,
and explanation.
Example:
I learnt many software: C, C++, Java, and
MATLAB
English: a language most used in the world.

8. Semicolon ;
• Semicolon used to separate major sentence
elements
Example:
I like to have coffee; my friend likes tea.
I visited Kolkata; Chennai and Delhi also.
