This lesson plan aims to introduce primary schoolchildren ages 8-11 to the role of pulses in a balanced diet. Students will learn to recognize balanced and unbalanced diets by exploring diagrams of balanced meals containing grains, vegetables, fruits, proteins and dairy, compared to imbalanced meals lacking certain food groups. They will evaluate how pulses can contribute to a balanced diet and will design balanced breakfast, lunch and supper meals using an empty plate template. As an activity, students will keep a food diary to analyze if their home meals are balanced.
