Aerial photographs from 1972 and 1996 of a forested area near Vancouver, Canada were analyzed to study changes in forest canopy cover over a 24-year period. The analysis found that between 1972 and 1996, the forest canopy cover decreased from 76% to 71% indicating a loss of 5% of canopy cover over the two decades. The loss of canopy cover was attributed primarily to logging and natural disturbances like wind storms during that period.
