You'll also be able to check out the archive after. PS- The slides were fun to work on! :) Registration link: http://evanced.info/webjunction/evanced/eventsignup.asp?ID=1642
Libraries And Electronic Content Access & Distribution V1 MiniLibraryman
Electronic content access and distribution is the most critical issue threatening the long term success of libraries. Libraries need a new electronic content access and distribution infrastructure and we must band together to make this happen, soliciting support from all the communities we serve. **Note: This is a very truncated and stylized version of a much longer presentation and is a teaser for other upcoming presentations on the subject.
This presentation is a truncated version of the longer "Avatars to Advocacy" Preconference session Helen and I did at this conference. We may be doing this at Internet Librarian in Monterey in October 2008. Lots of exciting developments in this arena so it should even more useful (and surprising).
Analyzing, Evaluating and Communicating The Value of Web PresenceLibraryman
Thanks to powerful new web tools such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Flickr, and YouTube, we have been able to build community and promote resources and services in revolutionary ways. And while we know that our institutions have become more relevant and effective using them, how do we prove it to administrators, coworkers, and community members? How do we find the data to demonstrate the value of these highly practical and innovative tools? And then how do we translate those numbers for the people that fund our programs? Speakers share their methodologies, results, challenges, and stories in working to demonstrate the value of these emerging technologies in marketing and creating community. Audience participation and contribution is highly encouraged, so bring your methods, stories, and challenges too!

Ever get the impression that Facebook, Twitter and the like are just "for the kids"? How about us old folks, you know, people over thirty. Can we get any value out of this social networking "stuff"? Sure we can. This presentation runs through some of "the stuff" (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIN), and shares some considerations for using them in a safe, effective manner, whether it is to build and promote a strong personal brand online, maintain a strong personal and professional network, or all of the above.
Using Social Tools to build informal communitiesDavid Gurteen
This is a 2hr talk I gave at the National Library Board (NLB) in Singapore on 11 August 2009 to about 40 people. The talk was mainly about how I use social tools to build and support the Gurteen Knowledge Community and in particular about Twitter.
Online Identity - Defining Personal from ProfessionalPCM creative
1 of 4 workshops in a series
This opening workshop helps attendees understand their social media identity to better define and look after their reputation online and align it suitably with offline expectations.
This encourages dialogue around Public, Private, Personal and Professional data profiles.
This is a presentation that I designed for parents to use in conjunction with their children to ensure that they stay safe on Facebook, but can still enjoy it.
The Internet has evolved into a collaborative environment where anyone can publish information as easily as viewing or downloading it. There are many powerful learning opportunities on the Internet and we want to ensure our students get the most of this valuable tool while being safe. This session includes introductions to the technologies, the benefits, the concerns, and proactive strategies for keeping students safe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Help your content travel - Unlike much of SEO, SMO is not just about making changes to a site. When you have content that can be portable (such as PDFs, video files and audio files), submitting them to relevant sites will help your content travel further, and ultimately drive links back to your site.

When you have content that can be portable (such as PDFs, video files and audio files), submitting them to relevant sites will help your content travel further, and ultimately drive links back to your site.
Increase your linkability - This is the first and most important priority for websites. Many sites are "static" - meaning they are rarely updated and used simply for a storefront. To optimize a site for social media, we need to increase the linkability of the content. Adding a blog is a great step, however there are many other ways such as creating white papers and thought pieces, or even simply aggregating content that exists elsewhere into a useful format.
Make tagging and bookmarking easy - Adding content features like quick buttons to "add to del.icio.us" are one way to make the process of tagging pages easier, but we go beyond this, making sure pages include a list of relevant tags, suggested notes for a link (which come up automatically when you go to tag a site), and making sure to tag our pages first on popular social bookmarking sites (including more than just the homepage).
Reward inbound links - Often used as a barometer for success of a blog (as well as a website), inbound links are paramount to rising in search results and overall rankings. To encourage more of them, we need to make it easy and provide clear rewards. From using Permalinks to recreating Similarly, listing recent linking blogs on your site provides the reward of visibility for those who link to you

Encourage the mashup - In a world of co-creation, it pays to be more open about letting others use your content (within reason). YouTube's idea of providing code to cut and paste so you can imbed videos from their site has fueled their growth. Syndicating your content through RSS also makes it easy for others to create mashups that can drive traffic or augment your content.
