This document analyzes the peer-reviewed publication rates of postdoctoral researchers in the U.S., revealing that 38% of surveyed postdocs had not published any first-author papers, with an average of 2.3 papers among those who did. Notably, gender and ethnicity impacted publication rates, with men and certain minority groups publishing more papers, while formal mentoring was linked to higher productivity. The study emphasizes disparities in publication success in the context of the postdoctoral training system and the recruitment of women and minorities in academia.
