The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Public Speaking : Enough is Enough
1. Public Speaking : Enough is Enough
Recently, I read news about teen pregnancies in Malaysia. According to the Health Ministry, 16,000
cases regarding pregnancies were recorded last year. On average, there are 45 teen pregnancies a day, with
one-quarters involving unmarried teens. Why our community are not concerned about teen pregnancy? To
our beloved lecturer Miss Suvitha and my fellow friends. Today my topic is “Enough is Enough”.
There are many ways to prevent a teenage girl from becoming pregnant, the only one that is
absolutely effective is sexual abstinence. This method is the only one that guarantees no risk of getting
pregnant and protects the teen from getting any (Sexually Transmitted Disease) STD's. For many years
abstinence has been viewed as a decision based upon a religious or moral belief. In the article "Promotion of
Sexual Abstinence: Reducing Adolescent Sexual Activity and Pregnancies," Hani R. Khouzam, in a study
involving 7,000 Utah teens, the students were taught one of three abstinence curriculums stressing
abstinence as a pregnancy prevention method. They were surveyed three times based on their attitudes on
the issue. After taking the abstinence curriculum, the studies found that from these students, a significantly
higher percentage of them remained virgins than those who did not go through the program. With results
like this, it becomes evident that abstinence courses in schools are a sure way to get teens to realize the
responsibility that comes with becoming sexually active, and to get them thinking about choosing to remain
abstinent. The more information teenagers are given on the subject, the higher the chances that they will
make this decision. For this reason, it is important that teenagers be taught the health benefits of choosing to
remain abstinent.
Another form of teenage pregnancy prevention that is parents should talk with their children early
and often about sex, and be specific. Young people have lots of questions about sex, love and relationship
and The National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy in U.S has done a survey that shows Teen most
likely to get for the answer is through their parents. Therefore, most questions will be ask is :
Dad! How do I know if I’m ready for love? Will sex bring me closer to my boyfriend?
Parents don’t scold your kids but be a parent with point of view. Tell your children what you think:
Girl! You don’t have to have sex to keep your boyfriend. If sex is the price of the relationship, then
find someone else.
Sexual education should implement at the beginning secondary school. A research clearly shows
that introduce sexual education does not encourage them to become sexually active but behave their self-
esteem, sexual boundaries and how to effectively use contraception. In Denmark, South Carolina, a small
town with a population of 3500 used to have one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in U.S. But over the
past 3 decades, they have successfully reduced it’s teen pregnancy rates by two thirds.
What is their main strategies?
Their main strategy is introduce sexual education in secondary school.
In conclusion, we should get the whole community either religious leaders, government organisation,
non-government organisation, schools or parents to spread the same message to teens about ways to
prevent teen pregnancy.
Or
In conclusion, before you commit adultery, think about it!
