Social media platforms exploit user data and psychology to maximize engagement, growth, and advertising revenue. They track every user action and prediction models determine what content keeps users engaged. This undermines mental health, spreads misinformation, and manipulates elections for financial gain. While connecting people, social media has damaged society by losing control to algorithms that spread fake news and conspiracy theories. Strong regulations are needed to protect democracy, curb the spread of misinformation, and ensure user data and attention is not exploited without consent.

Matthew's gospel emphasizes Jesus' Jewish identity and fulfillment of Jewish prophecy to portray him as the promised Messiah. It highlights his divine sonship and authority while also showing him upholding Mosaic law. Key events and teachings demonstrate he is the king who establishes God's kingdom on earth.
Matthew traces Jesus' lineage back to Abraham and David to firmly establish his Jewish credentials. He portrays Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies about the Messiah. Media pervades modern society and shapes people's interactions and views in various ways. It aims to convey messages that draw people in by appealing to their interests and identities. However, media also promotes unrealistic standards of beauty, lifestyle, and gender roles. It disproportionately focuses on negative and sensational stories rather than positive news. While media can inspire, it also influences people's perceptions and expectations in ways that are determined by their backgrounds and beliefs. Overall, media will continue evolving alongside culture.
Technology has significantly changed how people live and interact in recent years. Social media in particular has profoundly impacted daily life in several key ways: (1) People now get much of their news from social media sources recommended by friends rather than traditional media outlets; (2) Small businesses can now market and promote themselves through social media with little money; (3) People increasingly meet new friends and make connections through shared interests on social media. While technology opens up opportunities, it also enables new risks that must be addressed to ensure technology benefits humanity.

Stories Matter: Equity in Storytelling for the Digital AgeSee3 Communications

In this session, we’ll look at some principles of equity in storytelling and hear from practitioners about how they navigate the competing priorities, access issues, and work against their own personal and organizational biases. We’ll also look at tools and technology that can help us create more inclusive and participatory storytelling structures.
