Chika Jennay Silvera chose to document graffiti and street art found along the route from her student house to university for her psychogeography project. She felt graffiti is a form of art rather than just vandalism, as it tells stories and allows viewers to derive various meanings and create their own conclusions. Documenting this street art provided insight into the unheard voices and richer sense of the area that most people pass by without noticing each day.

19. I chose my journey from my student house to university as the location I would be looking into. I decided to capture
all signs of graffiti or art that are permanently placed on that specific object. This is because, I feel that graffiti is more
of an art than vandalism. Something about graffiti that tells a story and holds many connotations which make it even
more intriguing. The various connotations that you get from the graffiti, allows you to really think and create your own
conclusion and stories all from the ideas you get from one piece. It also reminds you that hundreds to thousands pass
that same spot everyday without noticing the art around them. I feel that graffiti are the unheard voices that society
doesn’t pay attention to and is a good way to get more detailed, undocumented sense of that particular area.
