A hearbreaking Christmas
Things to think about
• Why was it heartbreaking?
• Was it a death of a close friend/relative/pet?
• A disappointment?
• Who was heartbroken?

• Where did it happen?
• When did it happen?
An example beginning
Here is an example starting paragraph to this essay to give you some ideas.. If you are stuck, please feel free to
use this. However, we would rather you use your own beginning. It is always a delight to read what is swmming
around in someone else's imgination.
Johan's relatives and even some close friends were all gathered for his Christmas party. Since his birthday fell on
Christmas, Johan only received presents once a year instead of twice like the rest of us. As you quite expect, it
made this day extra special for him. But the most special thing was, this time of year, Johan's big brother would
come over from Malaysia where he lived.

Wendy always liked to hear her mom tell her stories about her father. He was handsome and brave and defended
his village in China from the communists during the communist revolution. It was a long time ago, but Wendy's
mom would still shed quiet tears as she recounted to Wendy how news from China reached mother and baby that
Wendy's father was missing and presumed killed in the fighting. Even his body could not be found.

I had agreed to baby-sit vice-principle Santhi's cat while she was on holiday. Mrs Santhi was a children-hating
spinster. Even her cat hated children. But Mrs Santhi loved her cat with as much passion as she hated children
which was quite a lot. She had named her cat, quite aptly Miss Cat. Every evening after school, I had to enter her
house with the backdoor key and feed her cat.

As any kid can tell you, my most enjoyable holiday involved a lot of shouting, a great deal of laughing and getting
very, very dirty. It was my first camp and it was not just any stay-in-school type camp. It involved tents and
absolutely no parents.

I was one of the hundreds of people on the bridge trying to rush across in the rain. I did not even hear the crack as
the bridge's old legs snapped. Everybody lost their balance and fell. Somebody's umbrella hit me as I fell and the
iron frame went straight into my ear. I could not hear myself scream. Shocked by the pain, I slipped and fell
halfway over the bridge's broken railings and face first to the sea when my foot saved me by getting caught in
between the broken railings. I felt my ankle bend and then crack before finally my body stopped falling, dangling
from the broken railings, the raging seawater just barely below me. It was pain beyond anything I knew. And then
there was the fear. I was afraid I was going to die.

Every year they kill thousands of people. Last week, the best friend I had ever had was killed by one of them. They
are drug traffickers. They sell powdered death to innocent and gullible people who believe in their false promises of
instant pleasure and fun. But they will not be the only killers. Today I will kill the people who killed my best friend.
The police have told me that if I agree to go to court today to witness against the people who sold drugs to my
friend, it will be enough to sentence them to death.

Mrs Santhi was a children-hating spinster. Even her cat hated children. But Mrs Santhi loved her cat with as much passion as she hated children which was quite a lot. She had named her cat, quite aptly Miss Cat. Every evening after school, I had to enter her house with the backdoor key and feed her cat. I did not even hear the crack as the bridge's old legs snapped. Everybody lost their balance and fell. Somebody's umbrella hit me as I fell and the iron frame went straight into my ear. I could not hear myself scream. Shocked by the pain, I slipped and fell halfway over the bridge's broken railings and face first to the sea when my foot saved me by getting caught in between the broken railings. I felt my ankle bend and then crack before finally my body stopped falling, dangling from the broken railings, the raging seawater just barely below me. It was pain beyond anything I knew. And then there was the fear. I was afraid I was going to die. PSLE English Composition Topics > Topic 7 Topic 7 Killer! Things to think about • What was killed? Was it a person? Animal/Insect?

They are drug traffickers. They sell powdered death to innocent and gullible people who believe in their false promises of instant pleasure and fun. But they will not be the only killers. Today I will kill the people who killed my best friend. The police have told me that if I agree to go to court today to witness against the people who sold drugs to my friend, it will be enough to sentence them to death.
