What is a PSA?
Public Service Announcements (PSA) educate citizens about challenging issues like
homelessness, global warming, breast cancer, animal welfare, and AIDS. PSAs raise
awareness using factual information and persuade citizens to take positive action.
GOAL
Raise awareness by educating students about the causes and/or effects of your SERVICE
LEARNING TOPIC and provide kid-friendly ways to take action.
ROLE
ADVOCATE: An advocate supports and promotes a cause.
AUDIENCE
Middle School Students
SITUATION
•Educate your peers and deliver a strong factual based message.
•Use Emotional Appeal to persuade peers to take action and support your cause. Emotional
appeal is a persuasive technique that uses words, images, and audio (sounds) to elicit a strong
emotion from the audience. Therefore, the audience would be more likely to support your
cause.
PRODUCT
Plan and Produce an original PSA on YOUR SERVICE LEARNING TOPIC in a brief (45 seconds
- 1 minute 30 seconds) MULTI-MEDIA presentation (imovie, pivot, ppt, Windows Movie Maker,
animoto, etc)
OR a 3-5 paragraph newspaper article for the NEWSIES with Images (prior approval necessary)
