WHAT ARE PROTEINS? 
• Proteins are compounds that consist of large 
molecules composed of one or more long chains of 
amino acids and are an essential part of all living 
organisms. They are the structural components of 
body tissues such as muscle, hair, and collagen.
WHAT DO PROTEINS DO? 
• Proteins do most of the work in cells and are 
required for the structure, function, and regulation 
of the body's tissues and organs.
HOW DO PROTEINS EFFECT THE BODY? 
• They are used to grow and repair muscles, bones, 
and other body parts. 
• They increase immunity. 
• They balance pH value. 
• They transport nutrients. 
• They form Enzymes.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN SOURCES ON 
PROTEIN? 
• Fish 
• Red meat 
• Poultry 
• Eggs 
• Dairy products
HOW MUCH PROTEIN SHOULD YOU 
TAKE IN? 
• Everyone needs to consume a different amount of 
protein; the exact amount depends on their weight 
and calorie intake. 
• Groups at a higher risk of being protein deficient 
include people with eating disorders or illnesses and 
elderly women.
