Prose Fiction
A type of writing that employs basic
storytelling techniques that include dialogue,
narrative, exposition, and so on. Fiction is
any work that is not a narrative of reality; the
story is, instead, conceived by the author.
While prose Fiction maybe based on real
events and people, the actual characters and
plot of the story made up, which can open
up possibilities for fantastic events that could

Prose Fiction
Novel
Is a long press narrative that describes fictional
characters and events, usually in the form of a
sequential story, write by a novelist. The genre
has historical roots in antiquity and the fields of
medieval and early modern romance and in the
tradition of the novella. The latter, an Italian
word used to describe short stories, supplied
the present generic English term in the 18th
Novella
Is a simply term used for a miniature or short
novel. Novellas are shorter than full length
novels but longer than short stories. They are
typically around 60-120 pages or 7500-40000
words. Novellas will not have the same
elaborate subplots and back stories of a full
length novels, but their conflicts will be better
defined than in a sort story.
Folktale
Is a story that has no known author and was
originally passed on from one generation to
another by word of mouth. Usually dealt with
ordinary people, or animals that act like
people. Often find the same motifs
(characters, images or story lines) in the tales
of different cultures. The *trickster " is one
such character.
Fable
Is a short piece of fiction that features
animals in the role of the protagonist and
usually includes or illustrates a moral. A fable
can also have other inanimate objects,
mythical creatures, or forces of nature as
main characters. The distinguishing feature of
a fable is the personification used in this kind
of fiction.
Short story
Is a piece of prose Fiction marked by relative
shortness and density, organized into a plot
and with some kind of denouement at the
end. The plot may be comic, tragic, romantic,
or satiric. It may be written in the mode of
fantasy, realism or naturalism.
Examples: The Gift of the Magi and The
Lottery
Science fiction
Often called "sci-fi", is a genre of fiction
literature whose content is imaginative, but
based in science. It relies heavily on scientific
facts, theories, and principles as support for
it's settings, characters, themes, and plot-
lines.
