Historical art from the past provides clues about past cultures by revealing details about symbolism, colors, and materials used. Studying art from the past also contributes to our understanding of ourselves and allows us to gather knowledge and inspiration that shape how we view the world. During a protest of a Van Gogh painting, activists questioned whether art or life was more valuable and argued that art protection should not take priority over protecting the planet and people.

I think is interesting because that artwork
was not vandalized, it had a sheet of
glass on it. So really what everyone was
becoming so outraged about was a bit of
soup thrown on a piece of glass. And
So long as you keep on throwing soup at
protective glass around great art works, you
will just keep proving again and again, that
“the system” will save us. But eventually it
won’t. One day, the seal around the
protective glass will not work, and then at last
you will have proven disasters do and can
happen, and not just in images.
