 Residential condominium facility which
contains 28 units of single family homes
 Currently all trash is contained in a 6
cubic yard dumpster
 Dumpster is emptied 2 times per week
 If recycling program begins, each unit
would receive 2 recycling bins for items
such as newspaper, glass, aluminum and
steel cans
 Recycling is a part of everyday life yet
for some reason condo associations
have failed to follow suit
 Failure to participate in recycling should
not be acceptable in today’s society
because there is a need in all
communities for recycling
 Minimal effort will be needed from
residents to participate
 Currently more that 75% of the trash in the
Pinellas County landfill could be recycled.
 FDEP estimates that up to 11 percent of the
total waste stream consist of newspaper,
plastic bottles, glass, and cans not to
mention additional items that can be
recycled.
 Participating reduces the amount of trash
put into landfills
 There are no additional expenses to
participate in the program.
Benefits:
• Financial
• Conservation of Resources
• Community Building environment
Risks:
• Inconvenience to some residents
• Possible overfilling of recycling bins
due to small size
 Enroll each unit in recycling program
 Hold community meeting with all
information regarding how to participate
in the program
 Print and pass out a list to each resident
the type of item accepted in the
recycling bin
 Reduce regular stream trash pick up to
once per week
 Resolve any issues preventing residents
from participating in the program
