Statement of the problem
This study will assess multimedia activities in
blended learning to see its effect on listening
comprehension. Which can support F2F class activities.
Listening skill in second language, unlike native
language, has been considered a much more complex
activity, which can not be observable, it is a cornerstone
of language acquisition (Krashen, 1994).
Therefore this skill must be concerned
carefully, specially that lots of foreign students of English
are having problems with acquiring this skill perfectly
maybe for technical problems, or being unable to
comprehend listening once or twice only, add to that
some of them may feel nervous for doing the activities in
public. In addition to that in F2F learning the students
have been characterized of being passive, listening is
an active and interactive process that can cast learners
in a role that is more active by making sense and
decoding what they hear.
Research Question
 What are the effects of multimedia blended learning
activities on listening comprehension skills and
satisfaction of the Royal university students in
Bahrain in the English learning course Total
English?
This study will assess mainly the following learning
outcomes:
Will the students acquire listening skill through
multimedia activities successfully?
 Are they going to be satisfied about the course?
 The assumptions:
Using multimedia activities enhance listening skills in
L2 of the students.
Students will be satisfied about the course.
 The purpose of the study:
It is believed that blended learning does enhance
F2F learning according to the researches done by many
researchers. In addition to that using multimedia is more
enhancive to learning. The study aims to look at their
combination and how it will improve the students’ skill of
listening in English second language, we need evidence
that using multimedia activities has its definite effect in
improving listening skills of the learners in L2. Add to
that using multimedia will help rise students’ motivation
by breaking the routine of F2F learning. This new way of
delivery will motivate teachers as will to be more
creative.
So the study aims to assess the use of multimedia
activities in blended learning on:
The students’ acquisition of listening comprehension
skill.
Their satisfaction towards the new way of delivery.

  • 1. The Effect of Multimedia Activities in Blended Learning on Listening Skill Comprehension and satisfaction in English Language of Students of the Royal University for girls in Bahrain ARABIAN GULF UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES DISTANCE TEACHING AND TRAINING PROGRAM A RESEARCH PROPOSAL SUBMITTED TO IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENT FOR THE MASTER'S DEGREE IN DISTANCE TEACHING AND TRAINING BY Maryam Falah AL-Otaibi (2009)
  • 2. Statement of the problem This study will assess multimedia activities in blended learning to see its effect on listening comprehension. Which can support F2F class activities. Listening skill in second language, unlike native language, has been considered a much more complex activity, which can not be observable, it is a cornerstone of language acquisition (Krashen, 1994).
  • 3. Therefore this skill must be concerned carefully, specially that lots of foreign students of English are having problems with acquiring this skill perfectly maybe for technical problems, or being unable to comprehend listening once or twice only, add to that some of them may feel nervous for doing the activities in public. In addition to that in F2F learning the students have been characterized of being passive, listening is an active and interactive process that can cast learners in a role that is more active by making sense and decoding what they hear.
  • 4. Research Question  What are the effects of multimedia blended learning activities on listening comprehension skills and satisfaction of the Royal university students in Bahrain in the English learning course Total English? This study will assess mainly the following learning outcomes: Will the students acquire listening skill through multimedia activities successfully?  Are they going to be satisfied about the course?
  • 5.  The assumptions: Using multimedia activities enhance listening skills in L2 of the students. Students will be satisfied about the course.  The purpose of the study: It is believed that blended learning does enhance F2F learning according to the researches done by many researchers. In addition to that using multimedia is more enhancive to learning. The study aims to look at their combination and how it will improve the students’ skill of listening in English second language, we need evidence that using multimedia activities has its definite effect in improving listening skills of the learners in L2. Add to that using multimedia will help rise students’ motivation by breaking the routine of F2F learning. This new way of delivery will motivate teachers as will to be more creative.
  • 6. So the study aims to assess the use of multimedia activities in blended learning on: The students’ acquisition of listening comprehension skill. Their satisfaction towards the new way of delivery.
