This document provides brief biographies of five prominent Polish people: Pope John Paul II, who was the first Polish Pope from 1978 to 2005 and enjoyed poetry, acting, and the mountains; Frédéric Chopin, the famous Polish composer and pianist who could play by age six; Nicolaus Copernicus, the Renaissance mathematician and astronomer who proved the Sun-centered solar system model; Marie Curie, the first woman to receive a doctorate in France who was a physicist and chemist; and Robert Lewandowski, the current captain of the Poland national team and striker for Bayern Munich born in 1988.
