This document summarizes key points from a presentation on projections of future climate change in Africa. It discusses how tropical cyclone Idai caused massive flooding in Mozambique in 2019. It then shows observed trends of increasing temperatures in Africa from 1961-2010 and projected further increases of 0.9 to 5.4 degrees Celsius by 2100 depending on emission scenarios. Regional climate models are used to project impacts in Africa, including unprecedented heat waves, droughts, and tipping points for maize and cattle production being reached around 3 degrees Celsius of warming. Limiting warming to 1.5 degrees requires global carbon dioxide emissions to reach net zero around 2050.
