The Data Center Project Plan
1. Project Overview
a. Purpose
a. Scope
a. Objectives & goals
The project objectives of the company and project team include:
· To offer scalable cloud services such as data storage, recovery
and security for different web users, electronic and application
developers in the community.
· The company also focuses on developing a high security
management approach into the cloud services of the PaaS.
· To reduce the costs of data storage and recovery for the
company and its vendors.
· To improve the allocation of resources and planning for future
similar cases in cloud development and securities.
The project goals for the creation of a data center is to:
· To develop a cloud based center which offers data recovery,
storage and security with the qualifications of a tier IV center.
· To develop a Multi-tenancy architecture with PaaS service for
future growth of the company and businesses.
To become a leader in the data infrastructure focusing on a
higher level of security.

a. Feasibility Study
To be done by me
b. Feasibility Reports
b. Project Requirements
The design and construction of this data center site
infrastructure will meet all specifications of the following
codes, design and operational standards.
· National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and
Standards
· Local Construction Codes
· Uptime Institute: tier IV classification standard
· Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers
(ANSI/TIA-942)
· Green Certifications (i.e. Energy Star, LEED) (Shapiro, 2016)
· Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)
Cloud Governance & Audit Principles
· ISACA IT Investment and IT Risk Mitigation Principles and
Standards
· International Organizations for Standardization (ISO)
standards for governance and IT service management (Vael,
2010)
Additional requirements includes building management system
to centrally control HVAC, electrical, fire alarms, and security.
For example a Data Center Infrastructure Management System
(DciM). The Functional and nonfunctional requirements
established in the project charter, as well as subsequent
additional requirements will be used as guidelines for all
activities/tasks undertaken throughout the project. These
requirements also serve as key indicators for quality control and
assurance management of the project.
d. Work Breakdown Structure
( Image of WBS)
e. Project schedule
Project Schedule
A comprehensive project schedule is imperative for effective
time management during the project.
The deliverables/products are identified based on the project
scope, contract, work breakdown structure (WBS), project
network diagram, and other relevant information (Saylor, 2007,
p.28). Detailed activities/tasks are defined and sequenced with
tools such as a detailed task list. After the project team has
created a WBS, each activity is reviewed and evaluated. The
time and resources needed to complete each activity is then
determined. Additionally, milestones are identified to specify
the key dates that are indicative of project completion phases. A
critical path, which by definition, is the chain of critical
activities from the beginning of the project to project
completion (Olson, 2014, p.117). The sum of the activity
durations in the Critical Path is equal to the Project’s Duration
(Kramer & Jenkins, 2006). Our project schedule is developed
with the consideration of project logic, task interdependencies,
float and so forth. Lag time is scheduled in anticipation of
possible risks and changes. The project schedule is presented in
a Gantt chart format, and is developed with MS Project 2016.
The schedule can be used throughout the project life for
monitoring, tracking and reporting progress. It will also be used
for resource management.

f. Risk management plan
To be done by me
Project Risks
There are different risks associated with the project. These
include:
· Inability to fully deliver the project deliverables based on the
project timelines,
· Lack specific detail pertaining to end-user needs and technical
specifications to effectively address the client’s requirements,
· The project is being collaborated on across a wide geographic
area; telecommunications is the primary method of facilitating
this collaborative effort, therefore poor communication in the
team can lead to a demise in project quality
· Industry standards & regulatory compliance challenges
· Supply chain failure
· Malicious interference, either from within the project team or
from an external entity,
· Natural disaster
· Licensing complications
· Theft of equipment or intellectual property
Risks will be identified during the project team meetings, audits
or discussion with other stakeholders. Once identified, these
risks will be assessed regarding the likelihood of occurrence
and impact on the project. Mitigating strategies will be
developed to address potential risks with a high likelihood of
occurrence. Tools such as a risk tracking list will be
incorporated as part of the risk management.
0. Project Budget
Project Cost Estimation
Three estimating methods were employed in our cost estimation:
bottom-up estimating, analogous, and parametric estimating.
The detailed task list, and WBS enable us to estimate the cost
for completing each task. Cost aggregation is made based on the
work packages. Historical information from other comparable
data center construction projects were used for our analogous
estimating of some equipment and work packages. Project team
members with expert knowledge in project management and
data center construction contribute significantly in analogous
estimating. Contractor/supplier’s bids were another source we
used in predicting the costs for this project. The budget for our
project includes contingency reserves

Project Overview a. Purpose a. Scope a. Objectives & goals The project objectives of the company and project team include: · To offer scalable cloud services such as data storage, recovery and security for different web users, electronic and application developers in the community. · The company also focuses on developing a high security management approach into the cloud services of the PaaS. · To reduce the costs of data storage and recovery for the company and its vendors. · To improve the allocation of resources and planning for future similar cases in cloud development and securities. The project goals for the creation of a data center is to: · To develop a cloud based center which offers data recovery, storage and security with the qualifications of a tier IV center. · To develop a Multi-tenancy architecture with PaaS service for
  • 3. future growth of the company and businesses. To become a leader in the data infrastructure focusing on a higher level of security. d. Stakeholders d. Assumptions and Constraints d. Project deliverables 0. Project Plan a. Feasibility Study To be done by me b. Feasibility Reports b. Project Requirements The design and construction of this data center site infrastructure will meet all specifications of the following codes, design and operational standards. · National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and Standards · Local Construction Codes · Uptime Institute: tier IV classification standard · Telecommunications Infrastructure Standard for Data Centers (ANSI/TIA-942) · Green Certifications (i.e. Energy Star, LEED) (Shapiro, 2016) · Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Cloud Governance & Audit Principles · ISACA IT Investment and IT Risk Mitigation Principles and Standards · International Organizations for Standardization (ISO) standards for governance and IT service management (Vael, 2010) Additional requirements includes building management system to centrally control HVAC, electrical, fire alarms, and security. For example a Data Center Infrastructure Management System (DciM). The Functional and nonfunctional requirements established in the project charter, as well as subsequent additional requirements will be used as guidelines for all
  • 4. activities/tasks undertaken throughout the project. These requirements also serve as key indicators for quality control and assurance management of the project. d. Work Breakdown Structure ( Image of WBS) e. Project schedule Project Schedule A comprehensive project schedule is imperative for effective time management during the project. The deliverables/products are identified based on the project scope, contract, work breakdown structure (WBS), project network diagram, and other relevant information (Saylor, 2007, p.28). Detailed activities/tasks are defined and sequenced with tools such as a detailed task list. After the project team has created a WBS, each activity is reviewed and evaluated. The time and resources needed to complete each activity is then determined. Additionally, milestones are identified to specify the key dates that are indicative of project completion phases. A critical path, which by definition, is the chain of critical activities from the beginning of the project to project completion (Olson, 2014, p.117). The sum of the activity durations in the Critical Path is equal to the Project’s Duration (Kramer & Jenkins, 2006). Our project schedule is developed with the consideration of project logic, task interdependencies, float and so forth. Lag time is scheduled in anticipation of possible risks and changes. The project schedule is presented in a Gantt chart format, and is developed with MS Project 2016. The schedule can be used throughout the project life for monitoring, tracking and reporting progress. It will also be used for resource management. ( Insert Gantt Chart for MS project) f. Risk management plan To be done by me Project Risks
  • 5. There are different risks associated with the project. These include: · Inability to fully deliver the project deliverables based on the project timelines, · Lack specific detail pertaining to end-user needs and technical specifications to effectively address the client’s requirements, · The project is being collaborated on across a wide geographic area; telecommunications is the primary method of facilitating this collaborative effort, therefore poor communication in the team can lead to a demise in project quality · Industry standards & regulatory compliance challenges · Supply chain failure · Malicious interference, either from within the project team or from an external entity, · Natural disaster · Licensing complications · Theft of equipment or intellectual property Risks will be identified during the project team meetings, audits or discussion with other stakeholders. Once identified, these risks will be assessed regarding the likelihood of occurrence and impact on the project. Mitigating strategies will be developed to address potential risks with a high likelihood of occurrence. Tools such as a risk tracking list will be incorporated as part of the risk management. 0. Project Budget Project Cost Estimation Three estimating methods were employed in our cost estimation: bottom-up estimating, analogous, and parametric estimating. The detailed task list, and WBS enable us to estimate the cost for completing each task. Cost aggregation is made based on the work packages. Historical information from other comparable data center construction projects were used for our analogous estimating of some equipment and work packages. Project team members with expert knowledge in project management and data center construction contribute significantly in analogous
