Progressive discipline is a whole-school approach used by the Toronto District School Board to address inappropriate student behavior through a continuum of interventions, supports, and consequences that promote positive behaviors. It is based on progressive education ideology which advocates for active, individualized, child-centered education that meets students' social, emotional, psychological, and biological needs beyond just academics. Progressive discipline has stages that are used to cultivate discipline in a school moving away from zero tolerance policies.
