Friday, 16 October
15:30-16:00 Registration. Coffee will be served.
16:00-16:15 Meet in big conference room. Welcome remarks by:

16:15-17:45 Introduction by Edward Serotta, Fabian Rühle (Centropa):
“Stories are universal and stories connect us all: how Greek family
stories connect us through tragedy—and hope”
Participants then briefly introduce themselves and show three photos
(or copies) of their own families and you will have exactly two
minutes to summarize your family’s 20th
century history.
17:45-18:15 Nina Molho from Thessaloniki introduces the Centropa film about
her family. Screening of “A bookstore in six chapters “(20min)—the
story of Jewish Thessaloniki and the brave Greek Christians who
helped save a Jewish family
18:15-19:30 Introduction of Centropa website and its Border Jumping page by
Stelle Kale (Teacher from Thessaloniki) and Fabian Rühle
(Centropa); presentation of selected student films on “My town’s
Jewish history“ as well as telling your own family story. We show a
film by 14-year-old Nora Dunn about her family from Ioannina, as
well as other stories.
19:30 Free evening
Saturday, 17 October
08:30-10:00 Group splits up in 5 small working teams (6 participants per group)
and go to seminar rooms. Working teams develop lesson plans on the
Molho film. Assisted by Centropa staff and veteran teachers
2. 10:00-10:30 Individual and group photos. Followed by coffee break
10:30-11:00 Meet in big conference room. Each group presents their lesson plan
ideas. Followed by brief feedback from the rest of the participants
11:00-11:45 Presentation by Centropa veteran teachers on how they use Centropa
in class: Antonis Tzanakakis, Maria Bitakou, Dr. Christos Nassios
12:15-13:00 Screening of two Centropa short films on 20th
Century Jewish history
in the Balkans.
1) “Survival in Sarajevo” (English with Greek subtitles, 13
minutes)
2) “Three promises” (Serbian with Greek subtitles, 18 minutes)
13:00-14:00 Buffet lunch. Coffee will also be served.
14:00-15:30 Group splits up in 5 small working teams (6 participants per group)
and go to seminar rooms. 3 groups develop lesson plans on the
Sarajevo film, the rest on “Three promises”. Assisted by Centropa
staff and veteran teachers
15:30-16:15 Final group presentations.
16:15-16:45 Participants fill out the online feedback survey. Concluding remarks
17:00 Participants depart
This seminar has been designed for 30 educators of the secondary level and has
been placed under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture, Education and
Religion.
The seminar will take place at IMARET, Poulidou 30, Kavala 65110, and will be
bilingual: English and Greek with simultaneous translation in both languages.
