Professional development is important for teachers to continuously improve. It involves developing skills, knowledge, awareness, and attitude in four areas: as an individual teacher, with students, with colleagues, and within the school and profession. Effective professional development comes from an internal motivation to self-improve and find enjoyment, rather than only seeking recognition or feeling imposed on. It is an ongoing process throughout a teacher's career, not just repeating the same experiences.
