Global environment issues have rapidly increased and are seriously impacting biological life. A workshop will be held on August 1st from 2-4pm at KLCC to teach attendees how to identify types of plastic and paper and how a clean environment is essential for healthy living. The workshop aims to help families, the public, and students better manage environmental issues. Leyla Aceroğlu is an Australian designer, social scientist, and entrepreneur based in New York. She founded The Un-School of Disruptive Design and two design agencies focused on social innovation and sustainability.
This document discusses how architecture can be designed to support human health and well-being. It explores how certain design elements like daylight, biophilic design, and multi-sensory spaces can positively impact people. Case studies of hospitals and community buildings are presented that demonstrate innovative and people-centered design approaches. The document calls for more interdisciplinary collaboration in architecture to ensure social aspects are adequately addressed to create buildings that enhance emotional and physical health.
The document discusses using design-led innovation and arts-based research methods to transform aged care. It provides examples of how participatory creative arts research helped raise empathy and awareness of aged care residents' experiences. The author advocates redesigning aged care with a biophilic lens to integrate nature and make spaces more health-promoting. Co-locating amenities like men's sheds, libraries, and childcare within aged care facilities could improve residents' experiences and interactions. Radical redesign and re-imagination of aged care is needed to better support residents, families, and staff.
Lecture 1 - Introduction to Interiors for the Less Able - VDIS 10005 Interior...Virtu Institute
This document discusses interior design considerations for people with disabilities or reduced mobility ("the less able"). It notes that about 1 in 5 people have a disability and reviews how architectural and interior design have historically catered only to average individuals. New legislation in the late 20th century recognized barriers and accessibility became more emphasized. The document outlines specific interior design needs like ramps, grab bars, lever handles, and open floor plans. It stresses that with thoughtful universal design, architects and designers can create accessible spaces to meet all clients' needs.
The document discusses technology adoption by older adults, specifically those aged 55 and over. It begins by defining technology and exploring its evolving relationship with humans. While technology adoption was once thought to decrease with age, research shows older adults adopt technologies at different rates based on income, education and lifestyle, not just age. The aging population represents a large potential market for technologies. New designs should cater to diverse capabilities as people age, following principles of universal design to ensure usability for all.
The document summarizes 7 workshops that were part of a Master's program in Collective Housing. Each workshop was led by a different architect and focused on a specific housing-related theme. The workshops involved developing housing proposals and included activities like site visits, manifesto writing, and floor plan design. The workshops provided opportunities for hands-on learning about topics such as climate adaptation, construction techniques, and integrating living and working spaces.
The document discusses a research project called NANA that studied residential developments for older people in Europe to inform a new architecture approach. It explores definitions of aging, noting aging is difficult to define and has negative connotations. The research proposes three objectives - happiness, normality and equality - and eight features for a new architecture, including windows to the world, outdoor space, small spaces, freedom of choice and integration. The aim is to design better environments that improve quality of life for older populations.
The document discusses a proposal to revitalize an abandoned military base area in the Campamento district of Madrid. The area became disconnected from surrounding neighborhoods due to the A5 highway dividing the district. Rather than burying the highway for financial reasons, the proposal embraces the highway and aims to better integrate the area. The proposal is set on the site of the former military base just 2km from downtown Madrid. The goal is to promote public health and quality of life for residents by prioritizing access to services, transportation, green spaces, and social/economic opportunities.
LEED has been one of the most impactful green building innovations over the last decade by helping bring the building industry into the 21st century and redefining building quality globally. Pesonal space , territory ,crowding ,privacy and psychology of space with in...Adinew Dinku
This document discusses how architecture and the built environment impact personal space, privacy, territory and crowding from a psychological perspective. It explores how architectural design can support or hinder people's changing privacy needs and preferences for social interaction. The concepts of personal space, territory and privacy are interrelated mechanisms that people use to regulate social interaction. Architects should design environments that are responsive to these dynamics and allow for flexibility in how spaces can be used and experienced. Ignoring psychological needs could lead to conflict between people and their environments.

An inclusive type of approach creates better solutions, because it aims to benefit all users, therefore also those who must cope with disabilities. Thinking in terms of accessibility throughout the entire process, enables the creation of solutions for mobile applications and websites that are actually evolved and not merely alternative. When designing for human diversity, we make possible a global kind of partecipation, with a higher impact on positivity exchange and emotional benefits than we would have when addressing just the disabilities.

nursing management of patient with Empyema pptblessyjannu21
prepared by Prof. BLESSY THOMAS, SPN
Empyema is a disease of respiratory system It is defines as the accumulation of thick, purulent fluid within the pleural space, often with fibrin development.
Empyema is also called pyothorax or purulent pleuritis.
It’s a condition in which pus gathers in the area between the lungs and the inner surface of the chest wall. This area is known as the pleural space.
Pus is a fluid that’s filled with immune cells, dead cells, and bacteria.
Pus in the pleural space can’t be coughed out. Instead, it needs to be drained by a needle or surgery.
Empyema usually develops after pneumonia, which is an infection of the lung tissue. it is mainly caused due in infectious micro-organisms. It can be treated with medications and other measures.

This slide is very helpful for physiotherapy students and also for other medical and healthcare students.
Here is a summary of Pneumothorax:
Pneumothorax, also known as a collapsed lung, is a condition that occurs when air leaks into the space between the lung and chest wall. This air buildup puts pressure on the lung, preventing it from expanding fully when you breathe. A pneumothorax can cause a complete or partial collapse of the lung.
Sectional dentures for microstomia patients.pptxSatvikaPrasad
Microstomia, characterized by an abnormally small oral aperture, presents significant challenges in prosthodontic treatment, including limited access for examination, difficulties in impression making, and challenges with prosthesis insertion and removal. To manage these issues, customized impression techniques using sectional trays and elastomeric materials are employed. Prostheses may be designed in segments or with flexible materials to facilitate handling. Minimally invasive procedures and the use of digital technologies can enhance patient comfort. Education and training for patients on prosthesis care and maintenance are crucial for compliance. Regular follow-up and a multidisciplinary approach, involving collaboration with other specialists, ensure comprehensive care and improved quality of life for microstomia patients.

“Aging in place” is growing older without having to move.
Our seniors do not want to be moved to another facility when their
health declines and their care needs increase.
They want to stay in a familiar environment, surrounded by

Independent living is the ability to maintain one’s residence and
lifestyle without custodial or medical assistance.
A way to gauge someone’s ability to live independently is by
evaluating if they are able to perform activities of daily living
(ADL).
ADLs are the things we normally do on a daily basis, including
any daily activity we perform for self-care, such as bathing,

Assisted
Living
Serge
Lefevere
(DETOO
ARCHITECTS)
Assisted living is for those who need some help in their daily
lives, but don’t require the medical care provided by a nursing
home or other institutional setting. It provides housing and
services when it is no longer safe or practical for an older adult to
live alone in his or her home.
