2. SyC-AAL History
2011: IEC SG5
 established to see if there is enough space in AAL for
standarisation activities
 evaluation was positive
January 2014: System Evalutaion Group SEG3
 established to see if there is a need for an own
standardisation activity at IEC or can it be done in other IEC
Techical Committees
 evaluation was positive for own area
 since AAL is domain spanning decision was not to have an
own TC but to establish a System Committee SyC AAL

4. WG1 User Focus
The Working Group User Focus covers all user related issues of AAL
(active assisted living) products, systems and services
The objectives of the WG User Focus are the following:
 To define use cases that take into account the needs of the user
including end users and organizations relevant to the SyC AAL
 To develop user requirements based on these use cases
 To create risk management and contingency planning from these
use cases
 To recommend products, systems, services and technologies
needed for future standardization related to AAL
 To provide guidance on the implementation of Guide 71
As part of the user requirements, the aspects of liability, safety,
functionality, security and privacy should be addressed

5. WG2 Architecture and Interoperability
definition for an AAL reference architecture based on user needs, which
allows interoperability at different levels (with security and privacy issues)
 Define reference terminology and harmonization with other IEC TCs / SDOs
 Interoperability between domains that impact AAL functionality
 Definition of systems and their topology based on the AAL use cases and
stakeholders
 Define interoperability framework for systems, services, devices and
components of AAL system using existing standards
 Study feasibility of existing AAL reference architectures
 Describe different architectural layers and how they interact with each other
 Describe general requirements for AAL
 Describe interaction of devices and systems with services in the "cloud".
 Address security and privacy issues for AAL devices and services in the to
be defined architecture
 Liaise with open platform providers and enable interoperability in the AAL
environment

 Potential liaison with AIOTI?
 SDOs of Asia or US also to be encouraged to become liaisons
 Proposals for adding / changing the ToR should be discussed in Tokyo
 Registration of further experts through national committees
