5. EXISTING PRODUCT ANALYSIS
Safety
- Lamp is open in the
middle for a different
futuristic design and it
lets the heat leave lamp
instead of closed lamp
that will collect it.
Problems
- The problem is that the
lamp lights will get hot
and a young person
would touch and he will
probably burn himself
- The stand and the design
this squared shape design
with a small stand that
will break with enough
pressure.
Aesthetics
- It looks different than most
of the lamps and it’s a new of
creating lamp and it give out
perfect amount of light
brightness not high and not
low.
Customer
- People from age 16 and
above anyone interested in
a simple and futuristic
design.
Ergonomics
- Has a open square
shape in the middle
good for releasing heat.
- Has a long cable
- Hard to change the
light
Environment
- Energy , special type
of bulb.
simple lamp
Materials
- A frame made by metal
- And a metal part that
will be the stand.
Futuristic lamp
Safety
- Lamp have no burnable
material and the wire
goes from under it so
person won’t have a
problem with cable
protection if he/she have
kids or even fall.
Problems
- The lamp needs a
certain type of place
to put it example if on
a table it will need a
whole so the cable
wire will need to go
through.
- The weight is not
balanced so with a
simple touch it can fall
and might break the
bulb.
Aesthetics
- The way it looks is
futuristic and doesn’t look
like the usual and the light
will be bright on the main
side because of the shape.
Customer
- People from any age
because it looks like a
futuristic lamp you can
also put it in kids room
that have interest in
aliens or space.

high brightness it will
be decent.
. Long cable
. Good balance
Environment
. Energy and bulb
included.

pentagon shaped glass
and its made of metal
which make it strong.
Problems
. Lamp is made of
materials that conduct
heat and to change the
lamp you need to
remove the some parts
and you might break
the glass and the lamp
won’t be useful again
And the lamp creates low amount of
light brightness so you will need other
main lamp,
The lamp will be expensive because of
what the lamp it made of.

does not shatter as easily as glass.
- Can easily be fabricated and molded
into shape.
- Can be cut using CAD CAM (laser cutter)
to form detailed designs.
DISADVANTAGES:

13. Sketch : Sketch 1 :Model
dimensions for
developed
designs
My lamp is it being Smooth with no sharp
edges, Well polished and Suitable for
anywhere with a glossy look. suitable size,
not big not small with a Simple and
futuristic look. And it’s Suitable
for coffee table, for a small table and it’s
suitable in any room with no and it should
be really bright and not low, Easy to turn
on or off and it’s can be used for more
than one thing
14. I had to look at the developed design
and think of which pieces and what
quantity will I need them in. I also
had to figure out the dimensions for
the pieces, and they had to be in all
relation to each other, so there is not
even a single clash in sizes. All these
dimensions were put into a CAD/CAM
software and drawn through software
Length x Width Quantity
8 cm x 8 cm 5
8 cm x 8 cm 1
4 cm x 2 cm 4
TOTAL 10
Here I have developed the
stand to make the product
look more aesthetically
pleasing and to make the
product more stable. From
talking to my client they like
the 3rd idea.
15. I used 2D design to sketch the 2 faces of
the product inspired from sketch 5. It
was a better way to manufacture the
lamp model in this way, because it would
have been difficult to include the curves
of cardboard etc.
17. M.E.S.S. DEVELOPMENT
• Reuse
• The material that I will use the most
• is plastic. Not any type of plastic the
• Plastic is acrylic plastic
• recyclable and it non harming
plastic.
(Moral, Environmental, Social and Sustainability Implications)
Recycle
Most of my lamp can be
recycled because I will use
recyclable acrylic
plastic and acrylic
which also it can be recycled and
that will be a big improvement in
the non effecting environment lamp
Repair
If the led light did not work the
lamp will fail. So I have a back
door for the lamp if the LED fails
of dies I can change it easily.
Reduce
I will use a layer of glass and mirror
on my lamp where it will be in
small amount so my lamp be more
friendly to the environment.
Rethink
I think I could replace the mirror
to a reflection acrylic plastic witch it
makes the lamp much safer and
better for children also.
Repair
If the led light did not work the
lamp will fail. So I have a back
door for the lamp if the LED fails
of dies I can change it easily.
Refuse
I would rather use pine than
acrylic plastic
because pine wood in faster to
grow but
hard plastic takes long time
and that will
effect the environment.
19. • This is my final design because after combining
My two final designs to make it better by using
Cube design for the above part of the lamp and the
triangular pyramid as the stand to make it more
stable and more futuristic looking. And I changed
the lower part of the cube because I want to hide
the magnet which will let the light bulb work and
float.
My client is interested in one of a kind items and my
client, has interesting in futuristic looking stuff and
likes simple colors and wants a color that will be
perfect with any color same as how the sky color
fits everything around us.
20. Making Diary
Firstly I cut the
square wood , six
pieces 40 cm W x
40 cm H and then
sand it to get
smooth wood
Secondly, I connect
the pieces with
wood rectangle
and nail it together
for a strong frame
And neat.
Thirdly I paint
the wood for a
unique look and
protection .
Finally I connect
the lights, to light
up the place
21. EVALUATION AGAINST SPECIFICATION/ QUALITY
CHECK
• Function
• It should provide
sufficient amount of light
for reading or studying
• It should be portable
• = The mains switch works
great, with the wiring is
perfect and strong
Safety
. It should not have anything pointy sticking
out of it, because my product is basically for
teenagers, who make harsh decision very
quickly
It should be in a state where it doesn't falls of
anywhere it is kept, because if it consist of
glass, then
= The cylinder base makes it stable
Aesthetics
.My product should follow my Sci-Fi/Space theme
= Has a Sci-Fi spaceship look
Lamp should not have any bird edges, or anything
that makes it look messy
=Well sanded using belt sander and sand paper
- Achieved
. = Explained how?
. Moderately achieved
. Failed
Cost
• After my
client
interview,
he/she was
willing to pay
60 pounds
for my
product,
which covers
my cost and
gives me a
20% profit
Ergonomics
• The average size of
a human thumb is
between 2.75-2.49
inches, that’s how
big the on and off
button should be
• = The mains switch
is based off that
22. Manufacturing
• Try my best to impose as many
techniques as possible such as
vacuum forming, 3D printing,
CAD/CAM, Laser Cutting,
Sanding machine, Band Saw
• = Only 3 pieces are required to
be joined, the others have finger
joints to make it easy
Environment
• My LED lighting should
release the least possible waste
energy (heat)
• I found out that the product
must be as efficient as
possible using up less energy,
not wasting any resources and
not pollute the atmosphere
through emitting toxic gases
Customer
• Its mainly for people between the ages
of 10-20 (adolescents)
= The color and shape is attractive to young
aged people
• For people who are into the Sci-
Fi/Space theme
= Has wirings and LED light which look like
Iron Man’s chest piece
Size
• As the majority of my clients stated that he/she
wanted a height between 40 cm – 40 cm
= My lamp had a height of 40cm
