PRODUCT DISASSEMBLY
A Working Table Lamp used for reading and or if there is no available light in the room
1. Firstly we remove the top, to find the source of the light, doesn’t require much physical force.
2. We found the Harp which contains the socket and UL label, underneath the saddle and neck was a
pipe which was used to balance the lamp and hold it in place.
3. We then detach the pipe using a screw driver which also contained the power chord which connected
to the socket.
4. The Power chord went through a hole which was possibly drilled, and under the base wood was the
switch.
5. Near the base was the brushing which was used to allow the power chord to exit the base of the
lamp.
Conclusion from disassembled Lamp:
• Make sure that the lamp is simple and basic to not overcomplicate it
• Ensure that disassembling the lamp is going to be easy
• Choose specific components which are more appropriate over both assembly and disassembly
• Limit usage of nuts bolts hinges and joints to make for a more simpler and non-messy Lamp
• The client should always be on my mind when making the product as I can make a much more appropriate and sensible Lamp which my client would like
and afford
• Materials should be thought of when making the product to make it more affordable
• Avoid over fitting components
Components:
• 3 screws
• 2 sets of wire
• LED Light (yellow)
• Base Column
• Brushing
COMPONENT RESEARCH
 Pozidriv head:
 Advantage: This is ideal when using screws in corners or confined
spaces.
 Disadvantage: Used with special screw drivers which will slip when
pressure is not applied.
 Lost head nail:
 Advantage: ideal if it is necessary to hide the head of the nail as a
punch can be used to hammer the head beneath the surface level.
 Disadvantage: thin nail having a head only slightly larger than the
diameter of the nail itself
 Flush Hinge:
 Advantage: This type of hinge does not require a recess to be cut
but can be used for light-weight doors and small box construction.
 Disadvantage: . They are not as strong as butt hinges
 LED lights:
 Advantage: LEDs emit more lumens per watt than incandescent
light bulbs,
 Disadvantage: although single LEDs do not approximate a point
source of light giving a spherical light distribution, but rather
alambertian distribution. So LEDs are difficult to apply to uses
needing a spherical light field.
 Lamp holder Socket:
• Advantage: The use of sockets allows lamps to be safely and
conveniently replaced
• Disadvantage: They heat up therefore burning the user
 Lamp Chord:
 Advantage: .The terms are generally used for cables using a power
plug to connect to a single-phase alternating current power source
at the local line voltage
 Disadvantage: they could trip the unsuspecting user or others
 Spray paint:
 Advantage: sealed pressurized container and is released in a fine
spray mist when depressing a valve button
 Disadvantage: spraying a surface does not properly fill cracks or seal
most rough-sawn wood or stucco surfaces
MANUFACTURING RESEARCH
 Vacuum forming:
 Advantage: Vacuum forming allows for a huge range of part sizes,
shapes, and colors.
 Disadvantage: Vacuum forming plastic can also lead to distortion as
the material forms bubbles, vacuum forming cannot create as many
pieces as quickly as other processes.
 Laser cutting:
 Advantages: Clean cut edges without burr or dust formation, Cutting
of extremely fine contours and practically radius-free inner edges
 Disadvantage: Poorly adjust lasers can cause burning, difficulty
cutting reflective metals
 Butt Joints:
 Advantages: easy to set up and weld, Butt joints provide decent
durability. However, their strength is largely based on the expanse of
the surface area
 Disadvantage: relies upon wood glue to hold the pieces together.
End grain is joined to long grain in a weak configuration that must be
reinforced with pins
 2-D design:
• Advantage: can import pictures easily to be changed or cut into
plastic
• Disadvantage: It limits ones needs to manipulate a picture into
compound shapes
 Autodesk Inventor:
 Advantage:Can make and manipulate the compound shapes of my
lamp, Plastic used to be cut is not expensive
 Disadvantage: Its much more harder to import things onto the
software plus its more complicated so there will be some confusion
 Band saw:
 Advantage: produces uniform cutting action as a result of an evenly
distributed tooth load, useful for cutting irregular or curved shapes,
but can make straight cuts
 Disadvantage: limited shape possible to be cut.The other
disadvantage is the long cutting, preparation and maintenance time.
 Sanding Machine:
 Advantage: easy to use, and quickly provide a finishing touch to
materials. When used properly, they can provide shape and smooth
surfaces with minimal effort
ANALYSIS OF ALL RESEARCH
Research What I found out
How will I use those information in my
project
Mood Board Colors are black and white and sometimes,
shapes and patterns part of a remembrance.
This will finalize the colors I will use on my
products, It will help me draw some initial ideas.
Inspirational Board By researching the same concept, It has given
me more ideas on how to modify my lamp.
It helps me further my progression in building
my lamp, It gave me a variety of ideas to make.
Initial ideas I had to think of everything, the materials, the
colors, everything.
It will tell me if I could do it or not, and to see
how hard it is in making it, It will also help me
by modifying even further in the near future.
Customer profile It needs to be accurate, so I can know the
appropriate costs, material, and color, It will
also tell me their lifestyle and how they live,
and to see that they could afford it.
This will help me reach the clients expectations,
and to make sure that I could reach it, It helps
me produce the essential parts of the lamp.
Product analysis Every lamp is made differently or is
aesthetically different, or different functions,
which changes the initial cost of that lamp.
It’ll help me figure out the reason for why I
should make my lamp this why or why it should
have this specific function, It will also help me
think of how it should be manufactured.
Lighting research I should think of the socket and the bulb fitting,
and I should also think of the environment and
how could I possibly help it, and the cost of the
bulb and its extra components.
To make sure the bulb is cheap, and easy to
take out and put back in.
Material and Component research That I should make sure the materials are used
properly
To ensure if its good or not, and to check the
costs before making the lamp

going to be cheap but
the manufacture
process might not be
as cheap
6/10
The Base might not be
cheap to make but
otherwise the models
are fine in both
including the
manufacture process
Environment 8/10
Uses LED lights to
save electricity,
although plywood is
being used for the
stand
6/10
A large amount of
plywood is needed for
the base of the model
although some factor
of it use thermoplastic
8/10
Glass will be
incorporated in the
model to avoid the
over usage of plywood
9/10
Made of thermosetting
plastic to avoid
overheating
6/10
The model is going to
be mostly made out of
MDF wood therefore a
large amount of wood
is going to be used
9/10
The base is going to
be made of plastic so
its going to avoid
overusing wood
7/10
Support is going be
using MDF wood so it
might not support
saving the forests
7/10
The bottom half is
going to be made of
wood to support the
top half
9/10
The lamp is going to
be fully made out of
plastic saving the
environment
9/10
Its going to be mostly
using plastic but the
stand is going to have
to be made of wood as
support
Safety 6/10
Sharp edges are in
every corner and if
they are sanded down
the lamp may not look
as good as visualised
7/10
Has a few smooth
edges also the others
may be harm able
8/10
There will be a few
sharp edges although
they wont be as
dangerous as the other
models
7/10
Plastic may cause
burns and there are a
few edges but they
wont cause large
injuries
9/10
Has exactly no edges
therefore it will also
include smooth
surfaces but its
balance might make it
fall
9/10
It doesn’t have any
harm able edges
therefore it will be safe
for children and other
ages
6/10
The wood might have
splinters therefore it
might cause injuries
but otherwise it doesn’t
have any sharp edges
8/10
The top half is made of
translucent plastic
therefore it might
absorb the heat
resulting in burns
8/10
It wont have any edge
related injuries but it
might cause burns as
the light is out in the
open
8/10
Its has to include a few
edges but they wont
be harm able and it
wont fall easily
Size 8/10
Appropriate size for
displaying and as a
light source
9/10
Appropriate for desks
and other locations in
the house

travel and display
although it might break
during travel
8/10
Its suitable for the bed
room but any other
location might not be
as appropriate
9/10
Its suitable for most
locations but its going
to have to be on a flat
surface for a good
balance
10/10
Its good for traveling
and all locations in the
house
8/10
Its suitable for a work
lamp and a night light
but anything else might
not be as ppropriate
Function 9/10
Makes a sound as it
opens, which links to
the specification
8/10
Makes a sound when
switched on although
the angles of the light
may not be suitable
9/10
Makes a sound when
opened, it has a dual
function as a display
and a light source
7/10
Light angles are not
suitable for it to be a
light source but it’s
good for display
8/10
As a light source its
fine but its not very
good in balance
therefore it might not
be a good display
10/10
It would make a sound
if one of the lights
open its also at a
suitable lighting angle
8/10
Light angles might not
be appropriate but its
going to make a sound
when opened
9/10 A good light
source plus it makes a
sound when it lights
up, its also good for
display
9/10
Its going to make a
sound when it opens
up plus it has a good
lighting angle
10/10
Its using 2 different
light bulbs as different
colours and its going to
make a sound when
opened
Material 9/10
Made of plywood and
thermoplastic to avoid
overheating and for
perfect balance
8/10
Some parts of the
model uses
thermoplastics the rest
is plywood
9/10
Materials link back to
the specification it also
doesn’t over uses
glass to avoid harm
8/10
Its made of plastic
therefore it wont use
wood saving the forest
8/10
MDF wood is going to
be used for the model
so plastic might not be
a part of the model
9/10
Most of the model is
going to be using
thermoplastic saving
the trees
9/10
Wood as support might
be a good idea as the
top half is going to
have to be stronger
than the top half
9/10
Instead of glass, its
better to be using
translucent plastic
sheets
8/10
Its going to be mostly
made of plastic but
that may result in a
weak lamp
9/10
Plywood is suitable for
the stand and
thermoplastic is going
to be good to avoid
overheating

Summary of results:
I'm going to be improving sketch 3 and 6 as they appeal both to the customers and I, also because I like the look of it and the colour effect it produces, also
because they both appeal to the Target Market leading resulting it to be more profitable
2-D SKETCHING, SKETCH 3
Aesthetics:
• Smooth with no sharp edges
• Well polished and Suitable for anywhere with a glossy look.
• suitable size, not big not small
• Simple and Gaming look.
Customer:
• It fits in to the themes the customer wants
• Its unique therefore it stands out
• It links back to my target market as its following both my themes
Environment:
• Plastic may be used instead of glass to not overdose on glass usage
• The model’s accessories will be made of plastic so there wont be an
overuse on spray paint
Safety:
• The sharp parts of the model is going to be sanded down to allow a
more curved finish
2-D SKETCHING, SKETCH 6
STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS OF MODEL 3
Advantage Disadvantage
Perfect balance over itself therefore it wont fall over
itself and break
Lack of colors made it less fun and exciting to use, also
making it less aesthetically pleasing
Its easy to make as it only needs to be laser cut Attaching glass onto the front of the model is going to
be very hard because it needs to be an extremely
specific size to fit in
I’ll use a remote control to change the color of the LED’s
for an enhanced performance
Due to some incorrect measurements, the model looks
less pleasing than expected
It has a simple yet cool look over it making a much larger
amount of people to want to buy it
Accessories such as the hat and character have to
become 2-D making it less professional looking
STRENGTH AND WEAKNESS OF MODEL 6
Advantage Disadvantage
Its easy to make as it only needs to be laser cut Some parts of the model were taken out due to incorrect
measurements
It has a simple yet cool look over it making a much larger
amount of people to want to buy it
The wires are going to be harder to hide from some
people
Perfect measurement over the character made the lamp
aesthetically pleasing
Lack of colors made it less fun and exciting to use, also
making it less aesthetically pleasing
The stand makes the model better than expected Tiny parts such as the character is going to be hard to
stick as it may have to modified to be put in layers

M.E.S.S DEVELOPMENT
Re-use:
I can use materials from
disassembled projects to make
my prototype so it can be more of
a environmentally friendly project
Recycle:
I’ll make sure that in the package
I’ll list all the materials in the
product which can be used – and
make so that it can be easily
disassembled when its worn out
Reduce:
I could just remove
unwanted materials so
that it can be used for
future projects as well
Rethink:
I could try and replace the
character material into more of
an environmentally friendly
material but that may effect the
aesthetics in a negative way
Refuse:
I have used MDF instead of plywood because
it has less of a chance to split so its flexible to
be used for the curves of my lamp, also it
doesn’t change in strength and size unless its
been cut by the user, its easy to finish for
spray paint and it also shapes well
Repair:
I Have made it so that the
model is out so that repair is
easily done and so that it
doesn’t overheat
MAKING DIARY
I used a laser cutter as to cut the smaller parts
such as the man because its much more easier to
cut and handle since not only is it compatible
with 2-D design but its also automatic therefore
its easy
I cut the man and placed him aside
2
1 I used the application 2-D design so that I could sketch
out my model, because its much more simpler to use
than Inventor and its sketches out 2-d sketches so it
takes less time to make so its less time consuming
Once I was finished with the sketch I moved on to the
laser cutter to cut my sketches out, I’ve tried keeping
the man to a more appropriate size to fit in the model
MAKING DIARY
3
4
Using the help of the staff, I asked them to cut a 20 x 20
cm wood block with a thickness of 15 cm so that its
more easier to cut it down into a circle, also I used MDF
wood since it’s much more simpler to work with and to
cut because it’s an engineered wood therefore it’s
manufactured to have a low density, I’ve kept it a size
which was chosen using the questionnaire so that it
would be more appealing
First I drew the circle on the block of wood so
that I know where to cut and sand it, then I
started cutting down the block in a more
formidable shape so that I can sand it down into
a circle later, I’ve done this by cutting the edges
of the block then I cut it even more so that it
would be easier to sand down
MAKING DIARY
Once I cut it down into a more formidable shape, next I
started sanding it down using a sanding machine so
that it would be more of a circle then a square, I did this
by rotating it while I sand it down so that it would be
more of a perfect circle because if I kept it in one spot it
wont sand down into a circle
5
6
After, I started to design the base model of the
lamp using Autodesk so that I could use the 3-D
printer to cut the model since it’s a more
complex shape, the size would be 350 x 150 cm,
I used the 3-D cutter since it’s easier to use if I
want a more compound shape rather than a 2-D
model
MAKING DIARY
7
8
Once I was done designing the model, I imported it on
the 3-D software once I did that, I set the size and
position and such so that there wouldn’t be any
problems during the process
I started the 3-D printer so that it can start
cutting the block of wood, then I waited for it to
fully cut so I started with other things such as
coloring the other parts of my lamp
MAKING DIARY
9
10
Once I left the 3-D printer to cut I went to sand down
the man so that it would be more aesthetically pleasing
so that it could be more what the customer wanted and
so that it would look better in general
I went outside so that I could start spraying it with
primer so that it’s more easier to paint it with
spray paint and once I sprayed all of it, I left it
outside to dry, and then I went to go check on the
block of wood
MAKING DIARY
11
12
The 3-D printer has finished cutting the block of wood
and so I started sanding it down so that it would be more
thinner and more pleasing for the customer, I sand it
down so that there wouldn’t be any bumps in the model
and make it less pleasing
Once I fully sanded it down, I started spraying
it with primer, so that I could spray it with paint
later on since primer is used so that it would be
more easier for painting it, then I put it along
with the rest of my model which has been
sprayed with primer
MAKING DIARY
13
14
Once the paint has set, I started sanding it down
even further since its now more easier to find all the
bumps that were hidden in my model, then once I
sanded it down I moved on with the other parts of
the model and I sanded those down also.
Once all of my model has been sanded down, I
brought them all back out so that I could spray
them with primer once again, then I left them to
dry, in the mean time I waited until they dried
MAKING DIARY
15
16
Once the primer set, I started to sand them down
also and paint them again, once that was finished I
started spraying with blue paint then left it, then I
brought the base along
Once I brought it I started spraying it with blue
paint along the edges and on each side, the
problem is that the front wasn’t the easiest to spray
because of the angle
MAKING DIARY
17
18
I’ve decided that I wanted a bit of contrast to the model
so I chose to change the color of the parts so that it
would be more aesthetically pleasing and so that it
would be more colorful
I left the paint to set outside then we had to start
setting up the location for the wire, we used the
router but since I could not use it as it was an
expensive equipment I used the help of the
teacher to cut the back side
MAKING DIARY
19
20
I’ve seen that there would be complications with the
light bulb being on the model so we re printed
another circle but with a hole in the middle so that the
bulb can go through it and shine the light, we then
went and sprayed it with light blue spray paint
We used Solvent cement to stick in the circle as
the glue wouldn’t be strong enough to stick in the
circle as it was too thick for it to stick only using
glue, for the bulb to keep in place I used solvent
cement again to keep the bulb in place so that it
wouldn’t fall and break
MAKING DIARY
21
22
We used epoxy resin to stick in the man to the
circle so that it wouldn’t fall off when handing it to
the client, we changed the circle from wood to
acrylic so that when we stick it onto the block of
wood the light would shine through the acrylic
We used solvent cement to stick the circle onto the
block of wood so that it would stick easily, and so that
it wouldn’t be as messy as using glue and so it
wouldn’t look less aesthetically pleasing
FINISHED PRODUCT
• The finished product is much more larger and thicker than the initial idea, this is due to the complications that have come along during the making of the
product, its also because if the wood was as thin as the initial idea then its more vulnerable to breaking when an accident occurs, also because its more
easier to cut the gap for the light bulbs chords.
• I decided to change the color for both of the circles because the spray paints were limited and some of the colors weren’t found so we had to improvise
for a different color , the model still stuck on to the games main color so the colors fit in to the product perfectly so there wasn’t any situations with the
color pattern
• We had to cut a hole on the top circle so that the light bulb can fit in so we had to use a more thicker circle than the initial idea for the light can be hidden
from the client so that it would improve the product and make it more aesthetically pleasing and so that the light bulb can fit in so that it wouldn’t fall off
by itself.
• We had t0 put the bottom circle more closer to the top so that when the light shines through, it would shine through the acrylic and make it more
aesthetically pleasing and more better so that it would please the client, also because when the light would shine through it wouldn’t shine through
completely and there is a chance that the bottom circle would interfere with light and it wouldn’t be as wide spread as we thought it would
EVALUATION OF PRODUCT
My Evaluation
My main specification is that my product should be giving more of a gaming look and also that it
should give off the same vibes as the game the product is referencing, As observed I would say the
product gives off the appearance of gaming such as the references, the colors, and the style of the
product. My design expectations is that it should look like a person going through a portal and
coming out of it on the other side so the product has met the aspects that I have chose for it. The
total weight of the product is 25 cm so it has met the clients expectations in size and appearance
as it the questionnaire has shown that most of the people wanted the size to be 25 cm therefore it
has met their expectations. Another important specification is that it should have colors matching
to the game (I’m referencing) patterns, both of my circles are the exact colors of the portals that
are in the game and the block of wood matched to the games main colors so that means it has met
the aspects the client was expecting. Another specification that it has met is that it has met the
material aspects as I have said that it should contain the materials plywood/MDF and acrylic so it
has made the product more durable incase of accidents including it.
Test
• My product has a flat surface so that it can hold its
place so that my client can put it on his/her desk or
maybe the living room nut seeing the size it seems
that a desk would be more appropriate
• I also need to test how durable the product by
applying pressure onto the parts which seemed
fragile and see if they needed to be changed into a
more durable product
• I need to test how it is in some extreme conditions
such as an earthquake by placing it onto a desk and
moving it in an appropriate manner to see how it
does
3rd party evaluation

Father: Yes, I think the colors match the gaming aspects
Does my product match the clients expectations?
Friend: Yes, but it seems larger than expected
Cousin: Yes, it seems to be meeting the buyers expectations
Father: Yes, I think the design fits in with your aspects
Does the product match the appropriate materials?
Friend: Slightly, the bottom circle seems to need more improvements
Cousin: Yes, the materials seem to fit in with the design
Father, Yes , the materials seem relevant to the design
IMPROVED DESIGN
COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION
To produce my product commercially, I will be using the injection
molding machine, because it will be efficient for work by using only
one machine since I only have one mold to cut, and also because it’s
the most used machine for companies to use therefore it’s the most
economical method, and also because it’s the only machine that’s
used for my method since my model is easy to make. it’s the most
environmentally friendly machine but compared with other machines
the injection molding machine because once the model is cut there is
waste and it provides no use for it as there would not be enough
surface area for another product to be made, its also very hard to get
rid of.The injector would handle the edges and therefore save money
and time for the production.Time wouldn’t be wasted as there is only
one mold to cut and therefore that would save us more time and so
there would be no reason to change it.Therefore the injection
molding machine is the most efficient and economical machine to use
for my mass production as it would save both money and time.

PRODUCT DISASSEMBLY A WorkingTable Lamp used for reading and or if there is no available light in the room 1. Firstly we remove the top, to find the source of the light, doesn’t require much physical force. 2. We found the Harp which contains the socket and UL label, underneath the saddle and neck was a pipe which was used to balance the lamp and hold it in place. 3. We then detach the pipe using a screw driver which also contained the power chord which connected to the socket. 4. The Power chord went through a hole which was possibly drilled, and under the base wood was the switch. 5. Near the base was the brushing which was used to allow the power chord to exit the base of the lamp. Conclusion from disassembled Lamp: • Make sure that the lamp is simple and basic to not overcomplicate it • Ensure that disassembling the lamp is going to be easy • Choose specific components which are more appropriate over both assembly and disassembly • Limit usage of nuts bolts hinges and joints to make for a more simpler and non-messy Lamp • The client should always be on my mind when making the product as I can make a much more appropriate and sensible Lamp which my client would like and afford • Materials should be thought of when making the product to make it more affordable • Avoid over fitting components Components: • 3 screws • 2 sets of wire • LED Light (yellow) • Base Column • Brushing

COMPONENT RESEARCH  Pozidrivhead:  Advantage: This is ideal when using screws in corners or confined spaces.  Disadvantage: Used with special screw drivers which will slip when pressure is not applied.  Lost head nail:  Advantage: ideal if it is necessary to hide the head of the nail as a punch can be used to hammer the head beneath the surface level.  Disadvantage: thin nail having a head only slightly larger than the diameter of the nail itself  Flush Hinge:  Advantage: This type of hinge does not require a recess to be cut but can be used for light-weight doors and small box construction.  Disadvantage: . They are not as strong as butt hinges  LED lights:  Advantage: LEDs emit more lumens per watt than incandescent light bulbs,  Disadvantage: although single LEDs do not approximate a point source of light giving a spherical light distribution, but rather alambertian distribution. So LEDs are difficult to apply to uses needing a spherical light field.  Lamp holder Socket: • Advantage: The use of sockets allows lamps to be safely and conveniently replaced • Disadvantage: They heat up therefore burning the user  Lamp Chord:  Advantage: .The terms are generally used for cables using a power plug to connect to a single-phase alternating current power source at the local line voltage  Disadvantage: they could trip the unsuspecting user or others  Spray paint:  Advantage: sealed pressurized container and is released in a fine spray mist when depressing a valve button  Disadvantage: spraying a surface does not properly fill cracks or seal most rough-sawn wood or stucco surfaces
  • 14.
MANUFACTURING RESEARCH  Vacuumforming:  Advantage: Vacuum forming allows for a huge range of part sizes, shapes, and colors.  Disadvantage: Vacuum forming plastic can also lead to distortion as the material forms bubbles, vacuum forming cannot create as many pieces as quickly as other processes.  Laser cutting:  Advantages: Clean cut edges without burr or dust formation, Cutting of extremely fine contours and practically radius-free inner edges  Disadvantage: Poorly adjust lasers can cause burning, difficulty cutting reflective metals  Butt Joints:  Advantages: easy to set up and weld, Butt joints provide decent durability. However, their strength is largely based on the expanse of the surface area  Disadvantage: relies upon wood glue to hold the pieces together. End grain is joined to long grain in a weak configuration that must be reinforced with pins  2-D design: • Advantage: can import pictures easily to be changed or cut into plastic • Disadvantage: It limits ones needs to manipulate a picture into compound shapes  Autodesk Inventor:  Advantage:Can make and manipulate the compound shapes of my lamp, Plastic used to be cut is not expensive  Disadvantage: Its much more harder to import things onto the software plus its more complicated so there will be some confusion  Band saw:  Advantage: produces uniform cutting action as a result of an evenly distributed tooth load, useful for cutting irregular or curved shapes, but can make straight cuts  Disadvantage: limited shape possible to be cut.The other disadvantage is the long cutting, preparation and maintenance time.  Sanding Machine:  Advantage: easy to use, and quickly provide a finishing touch to materials. When used properly, they can provide shape and smooth surfaces with minimal effort

ANALYSIS OF ALLRESEARCH Research What I found out How will I use those information in my project Mood Board Colors are black and white and sometimes, shapes and patterns part of a remembrance. This will finalize the colors I will use on my products, It will help me draw some initial ideas. Inspirational Board By researching the same concept, It has given me more ideas on how to modify my lamp. It helps me further my progression in building my lamp, It gave me a variety of ideas to make. Initial ideas I had to think of everything, the materials, the colors, everything. It will tell me if I could do it or not, and to see how hard it is in making it, It will also help me by modifying even further in the near future. Customer profile It needs to be accurate, so I can know the appropriate costs, material, and color, It will also tell me their lifestyle and how they live, and to see that they could afford it. This will help me reach the clients expectations, and to make sure that I could reach it, It helps me produce the essential parts of the lamp. Product analysis Every lamp is made differently or is aesthetically different, or different functions, which changes the initial cost of that lamp. It’ll help me figure out the reason for why I should make my lamp this why or why it should have this specific function, It will also help me think of how it should be manufactured. Lighting research I should think of the socket and the bulb fitting, and I should also think of the environment and how could I possibly help it, and the cost of the bulb and its extra components. To make sure the bulb is cheap, and easy to take out and put back in. Material and Component research That I should make sure the materials are used properly To ensure if its good or not, and to check the costs before making the lamp

might absorb the heat resulting in burns 8/10 It wont have any edge related injuries but it might cause burns as the light is out in the open 8/10 Its has to include a few edges but they wont be harm able and it wont fall easily Size 8/10 Appropriate size for displaying and as a light source 9/10 Appropriate for desks and other locations in the house 10/10 The size is suitable for transport and for multiple locations in the house 8/10 Appropriate size for desks although it might not be right for transport or other locations 8/10 Its an appropriate size for my client as it can fit in shelves and desks 9/10 Its appropriate for both travel and display although it might break during travel 8/10 Its suitable for the bed room but any other location might not be as appropriate 9/10 Its suitable for most locations but its going to have to be on a flat surface for a good balance 10/10 Its good for traveling and all locations in the house 8/10 Its suitable for a work lamp and a night light but anything else might not be as ppropriate Function 9/10 Makes a sound as it opens, which links to the specification 8/10 Makes a sound when switched on although the angles of the light may not be suitable 9/10 Makes a sound when opened, it has a dual function as a display and a light source 7/10 Light angles are not suitable for it to be a light source but it’s good for display 8/10 As a light source its fine but its not very good in balance therefore it might not be a good display 10/10 It would make a sound if one of the lights open its also at a suitable lighting angle 8/10 Light angles might not be appropriate but its going to make a sound when opened 9/10 A good light source plus it makes a sound when it lights up, its also good for display 9/10 Its going to make a sound when it opens up plus it has a good lighting angle 10/10 Its using 2 different light bulbs as different colours and its going to make a sound when opened Material 9/10 Made of plywood and thermoplastic to avoid overheating and for perfect balance 8/10 Some parts of the model uses thermoplastics the rest is plywood 9/10 Materials link back to the specification it also doesn’t over uses glass to avoid harm 8/10 Its made of plastic therefore it wont use wood saving the forest 8/10 MDF wood is going to be used for the model so plastic might not be a part of the model 9/10 Most of the model is going to be using thermoplastic saving the trees 9/10 Wood as support might be a good idea as the top half is going to have to be stronger than the top half 9/10 Instead of glass, its better to be using translucent plastic sheets 8/10 Its going to be mostly made of plastic but that may result in a weak lamp 9/10 Plywood is suitable for the stand and thermoplastic is going to be good to avoid overheating TOTALS 64/80 63/80 71/80 62/80 65/80 73/80 63/80 65/80 70/80 /80 Summary of results: I'm going to be improving sketch 3 and 6 as they appeal both to the customers and I, also because I like the look of it and the colour effect it produces, also because they both appeal to the Target Market leading resulting it to be more profitable

STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSOF MODEL 3 Advantage Disadvantage Perfect balance over itself therefore it wont fall over itself and break Lack of colors made it less fun and exciting to use, also making it less aesthetically pleasing Its easy to make as it only needs to be laser cut Attaching glass onto the front of the model is going to be very hard because it needs to be an extremely specific size to fit in I’ll use a remote control to change the color of the LED’s for an enhanced performance Due to some incorrect measurements, the model looks less pleasing than expected It has a simple yet cool look over it making a much larger amount of people to want to buy it Accessories such as the hat and character have to become 2-D making it less professional looking

M.E.S.S DEVELOPMENT Re-use: I canuse materials from disassembled projects to make my prototype so it can be more of a environmentally friendly project Recycle: I’ll make sure that in the package I’ll list all the materials in the product which can be used – and make so that it can be easily disassembled when its worn out Reduce: I could just remove unwanted materials so that it can be used for future projects as well Rethink: I could try and replace the character material into more of an environmentally friendly material but that may effect the aesthetics in a negative way Refuse: I have used MDF instead of plywood because it has less of a chance to split so its flexible to be used for the curves of my lamp, also it doesn’t change in strength and size unless its been cut by the user, its easy to finish for spray paint and it also shapes well Repair: I Have made it so that the model is out so that repair is easily done and so that it doesn’t overheat

MAKING DIARY I useda laser cutter as to cut the smaller parts such as the man because its much more easier to cut and handle since not only is it compatible with 2-D design but its also automatic therefore its easy I cut the man and placed him aside 2 1 I used the application 2-D design so that I could sketch out my model, because its much more simpler to use than Inventor and its sketches out 2-d sketches so it takes less time to make so its less time consuming Once I was finished with the sketch I moved on to the laser cutter to cut my sketches out, I’ve tried keeping the man to a more appropriate size to fit in the model

MAKING DIARY 3 4 Using thehelp of the staff, I asked them to cut a 20 x 20 cm wood block with a thickness of 15 cm so that its more easier to cut it down into a circle, also I used MDF wood since it’s much more simpler to work with and to cut because it’s an engineered wood therefore it’s manufactured to have a low density, I’ve kept it a size which was chosen using the questionnaire so that it would be more appealing First I drew the circle on the block of wood so that I know where to cut and sand it, then I started cutting down the block in a more formidable shape so that I can sand it down into a circle later, I’ve done this by cutting the edges of the block then I cut it even more so that it would be easier to sand down
  • 32.
MAKING DIARY Once Icut it down into a more formidable shape, next I started sanding it down using a sanding machine so that it would be more of a circle then a square, I did this by rotating it while I sand it down so that it would be more of a perfect circle because if I kept it in one spot it wont sand down into a circle 5 6 After, I started to design the base model of the lamp using Autodesk so that I could use the 3-D printer to cut the model since it’s a more complex shape, the size would be 350 x 150 cm, I used the 3-D cutter since it’s easier to use if I want a more compound shape rather than a 2-D model
  • 33.
MAKING DIARY 7 8 Once Iwas done designing the model, I imported it on the 3-D software once I did that, I set the size and position and such so that there wouldn’t be any problems during the process I started the 3-D printer so that it can start cutting the block of wood, then I waited for it to fully cut so I started with other things such as coloring the other parts of my lamp
  • 34.
MAKING DIARY 9 10 Once Ileft the 3-D printer to cut I went to sand down the man so that it would be more aesthetically pleasing so that it could be more what the customer wanted and so that it would look better in general I went outside so that I could start spraying it with primer so that it’s more easier to paint it with spray paint and once I sprayed all of it, I left it outside to dry, and then I went to go check on the block of wood
  • 35.
MAKING DIARY 11 12 The 3-Dprinter has finished cutting the block of wood and so I started sanding it down so that it would be more thinner and more pleasing for the customer, I sand it down so that there wouldn’t be any bumps in the model and make it less pleasing Once I fully sanded it down, I started spraying it with primer, so that I could spray it with paint later on since primer is used so that it would be more easier for painting it, then I put it along with the rest of my model which has been sprayed with primer
  • 36.
MAKING DIARY 13 14 Once thepaint has set, I started sanding it down even further since its now more easier to find all the bumps that were hidden in my model, then once I sanded it down I moved on with the other parts of the model and I sanded those down also. Once all of my model has been sanded down, I brought them all back out so that I could spray them with primer once again, then I left them to dry, in the mean time I waited until they dried
  • 37.
MAKING DIARY 15 16 Once theprimer set, I started to sand them down also and paint them again, once that was finished I started spraying with blue paint then left it, then I brought the base along Once I brought it I started spraying it with blue paint along the edges and on each side, the problem is that the front wasn’t the easiest to spray because of the angle
  • 38.
MAKING DIARY 17 18 I’ve decidedthat I wanted a bit of contrast to the model so I chose to change the color of the parts so that it would be more aesthetically pleasing and so that it would be more colorful I left the paint to set outside then we had to start setting up the location for the wire, we used the router but since I could not use it as it was an expensive equipment I used the help of the teacher to cut the back side
  • 39.
MAKING DIARY 19 20 I’ve seenthat there would be complications with the light bulb being on the model so we re printed another circle but with a hole in the middle so that the bulb can go through it and shine the light, we then went and sprayed it with light blue spray paint We used Solvent cement to stick in the circle as the glue wouldn’t be strong enough to stick in the circle as it was too thick for it to stick only using glue, for the bulb to keep in place I used solvent cement again to keep the bulb in place so that it wouldn’t fall and break
  • 40.
MAKING DIARY 21 22 We usedepoxy resin to stick in the man to the circle so that it wouldn’t fall off when handing it to the client, we changed the circle from wood to acrylic so that when we stick it onto the block of wood the light would shine through the acrylic We used solvent cement to stick the circle onto the block of wood so that it would stick easily, and so that it wouldn’t be as messy as using glue and so it wouldn’t look less aesthetically pleasing

FINISHED PRODUCT • Thefinished product is much more larger and thicker than the initial idea, this is due to the complications that have come along during the making of the product, its also because if the wood was as thin as the initial idea then its more vulnerable to breaking when an accident occurs, also because its more easier to cut the gap for the light bulbs chords. • I decided to change the color for both of the circles because the spray paints were limited and some of the colors weren’t found so we had to improvise for a different color , the model still stuck on to the games main color so the colors fit in to the product perfectly so there wasn’t any situations with the color pattern • We had to cut a hole on the top circle so that the light bulb can fit in so we had to use a more thicker circle than the initial idea for the light can be hidden from the client so that it would improve the product and make it more aesthetically pleasing and so that the light bulb can fit in so that it wouldn’t fall off by itself. • We had t0 put the bottom circle more closer to the top so that when the light shines through, it would shine through the acrylic and make it more aesthetically pleasing and more better so that it would please the client, also because when the light would shine through it wouldn’t shine through completely and there is a chance that the bottom circle would interfere with light and it wouldn’t be as wide spread as we thought it would

EVALUATION OF PRODUCT MyEvaluation My main specification is that my product should be giving more of a gaming look and also that it should give off the same vibes as the game the product is referencing, As observed I would say the product gives off the appearance of gaming such as the references, the colors, and the style of the product. My design expectations is that it should look like a person going through a portal and coming out of it on the other side so the product has met the aspects that I have chose for it. The total weight of the product is 25 cm so it has met the clients expectations in size and appearance as it the questionnaire has shown that most of the people wanted the size to be 25 cm therefore it has met their expectations. Another important specification is that it should have colors matching to the game (I’m referencing) patterns, both of my circles are the exact colors of the portals that are in the game and the block of wood matched to the games main colors so that means it has met the aspects the client was expecting. Another specification that it has met is that it has met the material aspects as I have said that it should contain the materials plywood/MDF and acrylic so it has made the product more durable incase of accidents including it. Test • My product has a flat surface so that it can hold its place so that my client can put it on his/her desk or maybe the living room nut seeing the size it seems that a desk would be more appropriate • I also need to test how durable the product by applying pressure onto the parts which seemed fragile and see if they needed to be changed into a more durable product • I need to test how it is in some extreme conditions such as an earthquake by placing it onto a desk and moving it in an appropriate manner to see how it does 3rd party evaluation Do the colors match the games color styles? Friend: Yes, It does the blue and light blue colors match the aspects of the game Cousin: Yes, but more could be done to make it fit in with the aspects Father: Yes, I think the colors match the gaming aspects Does my product match the clients expectations? Friend: Yes, but it seems larger than expected Cousin: Yes, it seems to be meeting the buyers expectations Father: Yes, I think the design fits in with your aspects Does the product match the appropriate materials? Friend: Slightly, the bottom circle seems to need more improvements Cousin: Yes, the materials seem to fit in with the design Father, Yes , the materials seem relevant to the design

COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION To producemy product commercially, I will be using the injection molding machine, because it will be efficient for work by using only one machine since I only have one mold to cut, and also because it’s the most used machine for companies to use therefore it’s the most economical method, and also because it’s the only machine that’s used for my method since my model is easy to make. it’s the most environmentally friendly machine but compared with other machines the injection molding machine because once the model is cut there is waste and it provides no use for it as there would not be enough surface area for another product to be made, its also very hard to get rid of.The injector would handle the edges and therefore save money and time for the production.Time wouldn’t be wasted as there is only one mold to cut and therefore that would save us more time and so there would be no reason to change it.Therefore the injection molding machine is the most efficient and economical machine to use for my mass production as it would save both money and time.
